Back in my day (1977) the only casinos were in Las Vegas. Times have changed!

well Augie, checked the map to refresh my memory of how long it takes to get to Rock Island from a little west of St Louis... given things to do Saturday morn, it would just get me home way too late Friday night.. I'll have to head west and check out the late afternoon matchup between Westminster and Nebraska Wesleyan....

Westmin vs Neb Wes will be interesting given that Webster played at Neb Wes earlier and got beat soundly. Comparing the two results might give a reading on whether Westmin is improving after losing to Webster. Of course for Westmin this is a home game and for Webster it was an away game -- the second of two games after playing Luther the day before. So not exactly apples to apples.

We sat down with Spalding Head Coach Kevin Gray after the Golden Eagles' victory over La Verne last night. He talked about how the loss of five players, including his entire projected starting back court, impacts the team this year and next year.  As fans on here probably know, those guys are sitting out so they can use their final year of eligibility next season when Spalding is a full member of the NCAA and tourney eligible.

I should have written something about how much better Westmin looked against Neb Wesleyan the other day than when I saw them vs Webster.   NWC was MUCH bigger than Westmin, but the hard work of Kelsey Weymouth in the first 5 minutes of the game keeping the ball out of the hands of Neb Wez big men seemed to set the tone for the game.   Nebraska Wesleyan never seemed to think much of going inside the rest of the game... their big comeback making it a close finish was all accomplished from the 3 point shooting of Eric Jackson, who had 5 3-pointers in the 2nd half... fortunately Skylar tolson of Westmin heated up at about the same time and answered several of those 3s with his own 3's.
This may also have been the breakout game for Joe Prophet... getting significant minutes, Prophet scored 14 off the bench... he's the kind of player that makes a coach VERY nervous.. athletic and quick, capable of scoring, but a little out of control and some questionable decisions... still he was a huge factor in the win...
I'm no coach... but just amazed NWC didn't make better use of their big guys in this game.....

Westmin showed that they can beat a bigger, but rather slow team, at home... but there aren't any teams like that in the SLIAC, unless Mac qualifies... they'll still have to figure out quicker athletic teams... aka Greenville, Webster, Eureka... Mac will be a good matchup....

Looking forward to Wednesday night's conference games..

Eureka at Spalding   I view this as a very 'telling' game... Westmin was able to go down to Spalding and win... will Eureka be able to....   this will show us a little more just how strong Eureka is... and whether Spalding has enough to really influence the 1st four or five slots in the conference standings....     I look for a Eureka win

Fontbonne at Westmin...  Would be nice to see Fontbonne get their 1st conference win and show that they can compete, but if Westmin plays as well as they did against Neb. Wes., I just don't think this will be very close.... where will Fontbonne points come from?   I look for a 60s to 40s score...

Blackburn at Webster... two undefeated teams..... in conference....  This could be a very entertaining game, and I'm still wondering whether BC's Steve White has found any eligibility, if he's still at BC....  BC guards are fun to watch, but Webster's inside game of Whittingham, Robinson and Huskey should be enough to get a win.....  I think we may see lots of points and lots of turnovers in this one....

TQ   ...  I don't know how you do it!!!!!

That is a really cool piece of trivia...

for readers not inclined to look it up:

Nolan Zoellner   Font          19-19    100%
Hunter Sutton    Mac         18-18    100%
Joe James         Westmin    40-41     97.6%

In a pretty down year for Sliac hoops, nice to smell the roses somewhere!!!!

Also,  I note Friend of D3hoops fans everywhere, Markeith Wilson from Rust is No. 5 on the list at 95.9%.   GO RUST COLLEGE!!!!!!   (Haven't heard from Rust C lately... hope all is well)

I was just informed that there is a typo in my post.... it is Soldan Arena, 618 Union Blvd.
How one letter can change the whole meaning!   ;D

Well, at least it isn't on the same night as a full slate of SLIAC games!!.. Fogarty and Ellis were two of the SLIAC's best in the last 7-10 years -  glad they're still finding a place to play.....
