Midwest report on Hoopsville at 7:30pm...

Will discuss Fontbonne vs Wash U.

fcnews

Fontbonne goes into their 2nd biggest game of the year Tuesday - their biggest game was the Wash U game   -  lose the Elmhurst game, and no matter what happens the rest of the season, Fontbonne accomplishes NOTHING worthwhile in the eyes of the voters and in the eyes of the seeding committee - they will end up playing away, either at Wash U, or at some far away venue in Mississippi or Texas, against a team that will be rated far ahead of them, even at 24-2 or 23-3.

So if Fontbonne loses on Tueday to the #7 team in the Nation, we just cancel the whole SLIAC season. Nothing else matters. ???

I think you still have a slight fever. I'll let this one pass.

Well, there is still the formality of winning the AQ! ;D

Hopefan may have been a bit hyperbolic (something I am often accused of :P) but he might be close to the truth.  This might be Fontbonne's last chance at a home game in the playoffs (though I think a complete running of the table afterward might do it).

Your so right Mr. Ypsi +1K If you don't win the AQ, then none of the other 26 count at all.

I look forward to the day that a SLIAC runner-up has a legitimate chance at a pool C.  I confess I've liked that playing a SLIAC team in round one has (usually) been a mere warm-up for round two, but (though I may live to regret it) I really am sincere in that wish. :)

Their are no MUST win games in December. It's that 27th game that's a must.

Elmhurst had better bring their A game. FU is a very Fired Up and confident team. More importantly they want this game. It was the topic of discussion before leaving the gym Saturday and has been since Oct. 15th.

I do beleive there is alot more focus on Maryville, Webster, West, GC...... then this game. You gotta get their to have a shot. And, I'll take last years draw anytime. Any team at a Nuetral site is a possible win for this edition of the Griffin's.

Just finished listing to the Hoopsville Podcast. Thanks to Titam Q for covering the SLIAC so well. We'll have to wait and see, but FU could receive their first Top 25 vote in school history. He also had nice comments for Maryville, Westminister (and their exhibition win over SIU-E) and Greenville.

Mentioned Grinnell as 3-0 in MWC. Grinnell (just beat by Waldorf) comes to STL on Jan 5 to play FU. Could be another big game for regional rankings. Good day as Wash U @ Webster at 3pm, then the FU v. Grinnell game at 7pm.

Like I said before, I admire the fact that he is doing his homework. And look forword to seeing him @ the Westminster game.

The guy is much younger then expected. :)

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch wrote a little article about the Wash U-FU game.  Generally, Wash U garners more pub than the other STL DIII teams -- probably rightfully so.  They have had, by far, the most success.  Nevertheless, I thought I would add the link for any interested viewer.  It can be found at the following:  http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/othersports/story/4C6EB53EEDCA735F8625751F001351C8?OpenDocument

I think you are missing the point fc.  Obviously, the season won't just be a waste if Fontbonne loses.  However, a close game to Wash U opens peoples eyes.  They may take a little more interest in this game against Elmhurst.  However, a loss to Elmhurst makes people think..."Same Old Same Old.  Fontbonne is the top SLIAC team this year, but they can't beat anyone good"  Now don't get me wrong, they have played very well and beaten good schools but until they beat a Wash U or an Elmhurst, they are "just the Top SLIAC team" who will be a good warm-up game in the first round.

Fontbonne is good enough this year that I think you have to look past the 27th game.

Don't worry YJak. You won't have to seperate us. I understand the point he's getting to. Just disagree with the way he went about saying it. But do understand.

This is by far the most competitive group I've ever been around. They expect to win every game and don't take losing well. You don't have to get them up for a game.
You have three key members who have been playing major minutes together since freshmen year. And, Branch is as close you'll get to a senior without being one.

They got bounced around as freshmen (4-10 conf.). Learned how to win as sophmores and made a great run last year. But came up 3 pts. short. They know what they have left to prove.

This may be a Must win for the voters, but there will be bigger in route to a possible SLIAC AQ.
