In looking back, Coach McKinney is the only men's basketball coach still on the job since the conference started:

Blackburn had Ira Zeff, Joe Ramsey and Dave Kaneshiro
Greenville had Doug Faulkner and George Barber
MacMurray has had two others since Bob Gay
Maryville had Dave Pierce, Steve Jarvis, Dennis Kruse, etc.
Steve Jarvis was at Parks when they shut down
Principia had Gar Smith and Bob Beamon in the early years
Webster had Dennis Beckett, Tom Hart, Lance Randall, etc.
Westminster had Jim McEwen prior to Matt Mitchell

Congratulations Coach McKinney!

Here it is from furbug:

Webster and Westminster tie at 12-4 (Webster wins all 5 and WC loses only to GC)
Fontbonne finishes at 11-5 (loses only to WU and WC)
Eureka, Greenville and Maryville finish at 10-6 (Eureka loses only to WC; Greenville loses to MU, WU and FU;  Maryville loses to WU, FU and EC)

2-way tie for 1st

3-way tie for 4th place, which needs to be broken – not sure but I think that MU would then get 4th by virtue of 2 wins over GC, while GC has 2 wins over EU and EU and MU split

Webster wins tournament

Is  furbug  biased, do you think?  ;D

You guys (hopefan and furbug) really love to do this probability stuff. Wish I had that same kind of great analytical mind. Count me happy just to watch the games.

Furbug - By the picture that you painted. WU would host by virtue of going 2-0 vs. 3rd place FU.

This gives us an exact repeat of last year. WC v. FU and WU v, MU at the Gorlock Dome.

If FU can't win it all. I'll take your senario as my 2nd choice. ;D

Right! If my predictions come to pass, Webster would host. Thanks for your qualified support, FC. Of course I would not expect you to go along with it as a first choice, as I'm sure that your scenario would have Fontbonne winning out the last five.  :)

I know not many will read this before this afternoon's games, but Hopefan's diabolical plan for today and Wednesday   (not prediction, just hoped for)

Fontbonne beats Maryville today
Greenville beats Westmin today

Webster beats Fontbonne on Wednesday
Maryville beats Greenville Wednesday

on Thursday morn... :o :o
ba ba bing   5 teams at 4 losses, and Eureka chompin' at the bit with 5 losses  :o :o

As I mention boys, don't count my Panthers out.  Greenville sits in a great position hosting both Fontbonne and Westminster.  They do have to travel to Webster and Maryville, but this is the time that Greenville will come out.  They are fired up from what has happened in the past and will not let their guard down.

GO GREENVILLE

Fontbonne beats MU 90-81

College Win #500 for Fontbonne's only coach. Lee McKinney 787 and counting.

Fontbonne's McKinney earns 500th win

Feb 07, 2009
Press Release posted by Fontbonne
The Fontbonne University men's basketball team knocked off Maryville University today 90-81 to earn Griffin head coach Lee McKinney his 500th career collegiate victory. The victory improved the Griffins to 13-7 overall and 9-3 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC).

Coach McKinney began coaching college basketball in 1978 when he took over as head coach at NAIA Missouri Baptist University. He spent 10 years with the Spartans compiling a 188-126 record. During his tenure at Missouri Baptist, Coach McKinney was selected the conference Coach of the Year twice, in 1983 and 1988.

Coach McKinney left Missouri Baptist after the 1987-88 season to begin a brand new program at Fontbonne. He was hired as the athletic director and head men's basketball coach. In his 21 seasons as the Griffins head coach, McKinney has earned 312 victories. He has led his team to the SLIAC regular season crown in 1993-94 and 1994-95. His teams won the SLIAC Post-Season Tournament in 1994, 1996, 2007 and 2008. McKinney has led his teams to the NCAA Tournament in 1996, 2007 and 2008. In 19 seasons in the SLIAC, McKinney's team has posted a losing season only three times.

In his first trip to the NCAA Tournament, McKinney was in the midst of a vigorous battle with colon cancer. He underwent chemotherapy throughout the season, even days before leaving for the tournament. Fighting this disease with the same passion he has for basketball, McKinney earned his first of two victories over cancer. He also has never missed a game in his career, 1340 consecutive games coached.

Prior to college coaching, McKinney spent 19 years as a high school basketball coach. During that time, McKinney's compiled a 287-215 record. In his coaching career, McKinney is now just 13 wins shy of 800 career victories.

Fontbonne just too good for the Maryville - McCoy, Fogerty, Forest and Storandt all have outstanding games -  Maryville cut it to four several times, but dismal free throw shooting kept the Saint from getting any closer..... the tandom of Simmons and Dulle would be SO tough in the SLIAC.....

Well now looking at the schedule I'll give WC 3-4 and call them a 12-4 SIAC Tournament Team. And will host by beating FU. Or if FU stumbles.

Unless FU beats Mac, WC and one of the two games with GC and WU. Then FU hosts
FU needs to win two of the next four to get 11 wins. I'll give them that. 11-5 and SLIAC Tournament Team.

10 wins is not were you want to be.

MU needs to win all 5 to get to 12-4. If tie WC and WC losses to FU it's interesting. FU  would have tiebreaker.
MU needs 4-5 to get to 11 wins. They have GC, @ EC, WU, @ MC and @ BC
MU needs BC and MC win and a split with EC and WU to get to 10

GC needs to win all 4 to get to 12-4. But, tiebreaker keeps them from hosting.
GC needs 3-4 to get to 11 wins. They have @ MU, FU, @ BC and @ WU.
GC win over BC and 1-3 gets them to the dreaded 10-6.

EC needs to win all 4 to get to 11-5. They have BC, MU. @ WC and MC
EC needs to win BC, MC and split with MU and WC gets them to 10.

Now WU
WU needs to win 5 for 12-4. They would host if FU beats WC. or WC losses 2
WU needs 4-5 to get to 11 wins. They have @ FU, BC, @ MU, GC and PC.
WU needs Win over BC, PC and 1-3 @ FU, @ MU and GC to get to 10.

The tiebreaker rule will get a workout.

Congrats to Coach McKinney on #500. It was nice to be there and enjoy the brief announcment and presentation after the game and see the hugs he got from his players. I hope that family and friends celebrated more elaborately last evening. Definitely a special occasion.

Not much more Yjak. Dinner and home. Still a conference championship on the line. Nice to have it done on Parents Day and Coaches vs. Cancer day. Good crowd. Next milestone will be the BIGGIE. 13 to 800.

Glad you enjoyed it. It was a huge relief.

I realize this is the men's basketball message board, but I want to let people know of a milestone just surpassed at Greenville that you probably won't hear about.

Greenville senior Meredith Banal surpassed 1,000 points Saturday in the 75-61 loss to Westminster (Mo).  Banal, from Vandalia, Ill., scored 22 points in the loss, passing the 1,000 point mark.  She now has 1,002 points in her career as a Panther.  As a Vandal at Vandalia High School, she is also apart of the 1,000 point club.

Well played game by Eureka in beating Principia 79-52 Saturday. The Red Devils took nothing for granted in the game, and why should they? The Panthers have usually given EC a tougher-than-expected game. Eureka's perimeter shots weren't falling, but they got a lot going to the basket off drives and transition. Principia's lack of size has hurt them in rebounding this season, but they battled Eureka in that area 47-42.

Eureka got up 15-4 and never trailed. A 17-5 run late in the half opened up a 40-21 halftime lead. EC went ahead by 31 in the 2nd half before a 12-0 Prin rally cut the lead to 19. That was as close as the Panthers got though. Principia's new coach, David Patterson, is a super nice guy. I have enjoyed out chats at both games this season and at the football game this past fall.

Surprising result from Greenville on Saturday with the Panthers only netting 54 at home against Westminster. That's an impressive win for Westminster.
