uhhh, I'm not sure, burt I don't think Fontbonne controls its own destiny as far as hosting....  making the conference tourney, yes, hosting no...

why?

Fontbonne has four losses if they win out
Webster has four losses if they win out
If Fontbonne wins out, Westminster will have four losses if they lose only to Font, and everyone else will have at least 5.

In that scenario,
Webster swept Font, and split with West min  (3-1 record)
Font swept Westmin, swept by Webster  (2-2 record)
Westmin swept by Font, split with Webster (1-3 record)

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, and sure, this is just one of many scenarios....

I don't think there's anyone in St. Louis except Westmin parents who won't be rooting for a Fontbonne win over Westmin to keep the tourney in StL ;D

Like I said. FU controls it's own destiny. Do they want to host, go back to the friendly confines of WU or road trip to Fulton? ;D ;D

FU needs a win Saturday. Then we can discuss possibilities. I'm sure the Panthers will be ready.

Was Fontbonne ever close, besides the beginning?

Did Greenville ever make a run or was it a blow out?

Also Eureka picked up a big win to stay in the hunt.

Bell had 15 pts, 11 rebs in 21 mins and Zasada went for 16 pts, 9 rebs in 28 mins.

Id say Eureka should be rested enough for Maryville coming in Saturday, they'll most likely push the tempo against Eureka who has struggled somewhat at home so far.  Both teams are playing well.  This is a tough one to predict.

Fontbonne and Greenville will be a doozy.  In a perfect world both teams will be playing at 100% confidence and potential.  I think one team runs away from the other but I'll save that for later.

Webster and Westminster should take care of business at home Saturday but the SLIAC has seen crazier things happen.

Warnicke  a 4.0 in Biochem.... YIKES

as to the crowd size.. it's relative...  not a bad sized crowd vs normal attendance.... but a bad sized crowd vs what it could be for two schools 8 miles apart that have a supposed great rivalry and who are in the thick of the competition for the conference championship.....  I'd just like to see a full (or close to full) house to watch the great competition the SLIAC has offered up this year.....  evidently the attendance estimator wasn't impressed, with a published attendance of 275 :-[ :-[

FC - unless I was wrong, Fontbonne DOESN'T control their own destiny for hosting... Westminster does first, if they lose, Webster does - third in line is Fontbonne.... Again, if I'm missing something, let me know.

I hear you Hope.  You'd think more people would want to get out there, especially since its free!

mint   First half was close and Webster had a spurt last 3 minutes to take 7 point lead  -  it was at 7 around the 15 minute mark on a Fogerty 3 point play, 8 at 11 minutes, but back to 15 with 8 minutes left with Turk hitting 3 3's in a row...  it never got much closer after that....

FU holds it's own destiny for making the Final Four. It holds WU and WC's destiny for hosting. ;D

If you take every person in attendance last nite and put them in the Gorlok Dome? We're talking about the packed crowd, today. Estimate or not.

hopefan

FC agreed about the crowd if the game was in the Gorlock Facility  -  but it wasn't.

There's no reason in the world why a rivalry game like last night's couldn't get 1200-1500 - but SOMEHOW the schools have to get the student body to support these Big games... 80% of the fans yesterday seemed to be Family/Alum and the 10 baskeball nuts like me who know enough to know a good thing when they see it....   Student support seemed limited to the 50 guys across the way sitting by you...

I know you don't like to hear it, but when the Calvin - Hope games draw anywhere from 2500-4000, probably half the attendance is students - and that's likely 500 to 700 in attendance per school.... Their enrollment is similar to that of Webster and Fontbonne....

Then I would get on the train to Calvin, Hopefan. ;D

This is WU v. FU! WU didn't travel well either. I was sitting next to their student section and you didn't have enough to play 5 on 5.

Are we really down to discussing attendance figures? ???

How about that senarios require a WU win @ MU and a FU win @ GC?

juniormint

I wonder what the attendance would be like if the tournament is not held in STL.

What if it's held at Maryville?  Will it fill up?

fcnews

The attendance at the Finals of origonal Coca Cola Classic HS Tourney, Collinsville vs. DeSmet and the Vashon vs. C.B.C. a couple of years a go. 2000 even.

I don't think you'll get that for a SLIAC Tourney. A FU or MU. That's why WU is a good venue.

Did anyone notice in the WU v. FU game last nite. After calling 8 fouls in the first 20 minutes, there is 24 called in the second. Can we get a consistant 40 minutes, Please?

Yes, I noticed that. However, I don't think it had to do with the officials being inconsistent. I think that's the way the game was -- lots more fouling in the second half than in the first. I actually think the officials did quite a good job last night. Of course, there are always a few calls (or non calls) that I complaiin about. But overall I'd give them a B+ for last night.

Mint - when the tourney was held at Blackburn several years ago, I lobbied hard on these pages for a neutral site - either the Community College near BC, or Fontbonne, who was not in the tourney that year....  I was spurned, even to the point that the Commish and 3 coaches all emailed me saying NO, first place EARNS homecourt.   I had thought that Blackburn's limited seating would result in people not being able to attend - WRONG... though they did sell tix for each semi game, and cleared the gym in between, it wasn't necessary - the small additional bleachers placed behind the team bench probably would have been enough to accomodate all fans that evening (pushing maybe 300, probably less)...  BC had good student support, Westmin, Maryville and the fourth team (Webster?), probably had 100 people between them.  When BC was upset in the semis, the finals between Westmin and Maryville might have drawn 100......

Virtually no one from St Louis except family and a handful of diehards will travel outside the area to see the games.  Ticket sales will be likely 80% home team even at the semis   -   that's why the more St Louis schools at a St Louis location is best - Some MU and WU students will go to FU or vice versa to see the tourney....

Thats what I was thinking too, Hope.  Some people who may not have a huge interest otherwise might head to an STL school to watch a game.  Not so to head on the road (if from STL).

FC, was it really that inconsistent, or was it as y_jack said?  Rougher game later = more fouls?

Off the point but; I always laugh when coaches say something like "we have 8 fouls and they only have one."  Every once in a while the refs are just that bad.  But more often than not the team with more fouls is playing more aggressively or worse on defense that night.

I dont think a set of refs is usually that inconsistent.  Usually they call exactly what they see without a "keep the fouls level agenda,", so for a team to be up 8 to 1 in fouls there has to be something going on out on the floor.

FC, also some sets of refs let a game go a little, the players take it too far, it gets a little out of hand so they have to call everything to get the game back under control.
