one and   Maryville possibly out???  Absolutely

If they lose to BC (and without Simmons, that could happen) and Font beats Westmin (tossup), and Eureka beats Mac, Maryville is out, Eureka is in.....

... unless Principia also beats Webster ... but I don't think Maryville ought to pin their hopes on that:

I just wanted to further push for Rod Sykes to be an all conference player.. here is another reason...

HIS 3rd PLAYER OF THE WEEK.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Blackburn College's Rod Sykes, a junior from Danville, Ill., has been named
the SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of February
16-22. This marks the third time this season he has earned the honor.

Sykes, a 6-5 forward, averaged a double-double with 24 points and 11
rebounds in two games played last week. He also had four assists, four
steals and three blocks, while shooting 55.6 percent (20-of-36) from the
field and 66.7 percent (8-of-12) from the free throw line.

Sykes had 22 points and 10 rebounds in a 85-84 loss to Greenville College.
He then tallied 26 points and 12 rebounds in the Beavers 76-66 victory
versus Principia College. Sykes shot 12-of-23 (.522) from the field and
recorded four steals and three assists in the win.
Baseball players get to every base.

and all 3 must occur correct?

correct - I didn't even mention the Prin portion as that seems like a given win for Webster.   Eureka has to be careful of the upset bug vs Mac, but given it's theie senior night, they should be ready.  Anything can happen Font vs Westmin.  The interesting game is MU vs BC - will BC come to play or happily sit back and finish out the season - If Maryville shoots 30 3's and is cold, BC could beat them....
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Great night for the Griffin Seniors. The game was very similar to the game at Fulton.
First half was played at the Blue Jays pace. Tied at 29. Second half FU cranked up the tempo. 51-38.

Fontbonne Seniors:
Fogerty 24 pts and 14 rebounds - Broke school career scoring record and now 4th all time SLIAC @ 1696 (passing Mac's Brad Bryan)
McCoy 15 pts and 6 assists
Storandt 13 boards 6 pts and 3 blks.

Forrest went for 24 pts. 4-4 from 3's second half. Forrest never let Warnecke get started.

WC:
Crawford 21 pts (8-20)
Warnecke 10 pts (3-8 1-5)
Kovach 10 pts (4-6 2-3) played a good game.
Vislay 6 pts (2-10 0-4)

Good defensive game for FU and Fogerty and Storandt did not allow WC many second chances.

FU shot 63% second half and 60% from 3's. WC was 4-19 from behind the arc for the night.

It was a 20 point game when coaches started subbing with about 3:30 to go.

If Fogerty isn't POY we shouldn't have one. Chris Forrest made a big statement as NOY.

Good Game Guy's!!!!!!

77-73 Maryville last night. Close game right down to the end... in the end the beavers got killed by not hitting free throws!

Got the 3 STL schools and WC.  Should be a fun night of basketball Friday.  Fontbonne got it done to host, congrats to them.

There are 4 really good teams in the tournament, it was the 4 I thought were the best the whole way, although Eureka and Greenville were right there.

Coming into the tournament Westminster is the only team that didn't lose to someone outside the tournament.

Fontbonne -  Eureka and Greenville

Maryville - Eureka

Webster - Eureka (2) Mac

That could be good for Westminster because their only losses came against tournament opponents but the downside is the only teams they lost to are the only teams left.  I'm sure Webster is glad Eureka is not in, they couldn't seem to figure them out.  WC beat Webster once but could probably take some tips from the two EC WU games.  One glaring fact from both EC WU games is that Turk didn't go off from 3.  I think as he goes, Webster goes.  The rest of the guys make plays around him but he's their guy.

Fontbonne swept Maryville.  I think it will be a really good game but I don't see the Saints knocking off the Griffins at their place with their senior class.  It would be a heck of a way for the Saints to go out if they did get it done in the tournament.  I wonder if they'll try to run and gun with FU or slow it down?  If they shoot it well they have a chance.

Also would like to congratulate Westminster and Fontbonne on a co-conference title.

Fontbonne's first league title since 1995 and Westminster's first ever league title.

It was a 20 point game when coaches started subbing with about 3:30 to go.

It wasn't "coaches" but a single coach that subbed with three minutes and change.  Westminster subbed 3 guys in who had yet to play while FU kept its starters in.  At about one minute left, Storandt fouled out, wherein FU's coach had a chance to sub, and put in his 6th man.  Those 4 starters and 6th man played until about 20 seconds left.

WC's coach could have left in its starters but I'd say he wanted to get some young guys the experience of playing in that type of conference game on the road.  One could argue that WC only subbed because the game was out of reach, but if that's the case then FU should have subbed too.

It's up to each individual coach how he runs his team, but I just don't see the benefit in leaving the starters in that late in the game when the other team has guys in who haven't even played.  Has FU's coach subbed with a few minutes left in a game he thought he had won and gotten beat?  Or does he just not realize he has 6 other guys over there sitting?

In my opinion, and I know this is a view shared by many, when one team empties its bench, the classy thing to do with a lead is to empty your bench as well.

Easy Mint. I don't have a play by play boxscore in front of me, but I do believe that FU held the ball for the full shot clock on their last 5-6 possesions. There was no running the score up. It's a tradition at FU, that seniors end their career on the floor. When Storandt fouled out, subs then came in.

It was nice to meet Hopefan's son last nite. The family that watches hoops together stays together.

Good one FC  -  maybe someday he'll be a poster on D3hoops too!!!!! ;D

As long as he has your recap writing skills... ;D

Well the ALL SLIAC Awards ballots are out. Via Email? Since the conference has gone the email vouting route there have been some suprising selections. Not selections, maybe order and deletes.

I'm confortable defending my 1st Team.

Brian Fogerty (FU)
Chris Forrest (FU)
Ryan Turk (WU)
Stanley Crawford (WC)
Rod Sykes (BC) I know he did it on a team where he had oppurtunity. But he sure did it well.

Remember All Conference teams are not position based. Meaning 2 guards, 2 forwards and post.
