Easy Mint. I don't have a play by play boxscore in front of me, but I do believe that FU held the ball for the full shot clock on their last 5-6 possesions. There was no running the score up. It's a tradition at FU, that seniors end their career on the floor. When Storandt fouled out, subs then came in.

I never mentioned running the score up.  I mentioned that its classy to put subs in when the losing team does this.

I'm confused, I was sure FU had at least one, possibly two home games left.  I don't think the seniors on the floor is a tradition, maybe you meant "the starters on the floor."  If you meant seniors on the floor, the starters who aren't seniors (Branch and Forrest) could have been subbed out when Westminster subbed in its bench.  They weren't.

I'm always taking it easy, I'm just calling it like I see it.

I have to spend a little more time hypothesizing on the 4th and 5th members of my first team....

BUT

Mint, being the sane sensible person you are, you can't possibly be serious about Vislay vs Forest for NOY.....  can you?    :D ;D    Me thinks you are bleeding sky blue blood with that one!!!! ::)

Well the ALL SLIAC Awards ballots are out. Via Email? Since the conference has gone the email vouting route there have been some suprising selections. Not selections, maybe order and deletes.

I'm confortable defending my 1st Team.

Brian Fogerty (FU)
Chris Forrest (FU)
Ryan Turk (WU)
Stanley Crawford (WC)
Rod Sykes (BC) I know he did it on a team where he had oppurtunity. But he sure did it well.

Remember All Conference teams are not position based. Meaning 2 guards, 2 forwards and post.

2nd Team
Patrick McCoy (FU)
Jason Warnecke (WC)
Farrid Coleman (MC)
Micheal Zasada (EC)
Jason Simmons (MU)

Honorable Mention

Laphonso Ellis (GC)
Ryan Sichting (MC)
Eric Gruenewald (MU)
Justin Storandt (FU)
Luke Niebrugge (WU) or Steve Hrdlicka (WU) The Chad Fournie Vote

Has to be a spot for Hrdlicka (WU), Bell (EC), Brooks (GC), Baro (BC) and Vislay (WC). Tough Year!!!

POY Brian Fogerty
NOY Forrest over Crawford (last nite swayed me)

Chris Forrest - 18.7 pts (16.7), Fg% 62.3 (62.7), 3pt% 53.6 (56.3) and FT% 82.7 (81.5)
conf. only (season)

Sad to report: Greenville Head Coach Barber has been moved to a hospital in St. Louis. A scratch on the elbow has turned into an infection, he is in critical condition.

The Fontbonne Family is keeping you our prayers Coach.

Here is where I have my First Team problems...

As I've mentioned, I've not seen Sykes play

My other question is with ....  sorry.... Stan Crawford.  I have seen Westmin 4 times this year, each time in BIG games   Stan has not really come through in any of them.  If you are the bread winner, the guy that the team goes to, you gotta come through some times... I just haven't seen it.  He has a good first half last nigh and the game is tied - He was AWFUL in the 2nd half, and Westmin goes down the drain - I'm sorry, he looks great, but to me, he doesn't finish.   Maybe I'll think different after the tourney....

If I go with Sykes, trusting the judgement of my compatriots, I have to compare Crawford, McKoy, Coleman, Zasada, Simmons, and Ellis.
Clearly first team are Forest Fogerty and Turk.

So to compare  Zasada blows away Simmons and Ellis in scoring and rebounding  - that eliminates them.
Coleman is outscoring McKoy big time, but has to - he has nowhere near the scoring support that McKoy has, and shoots a whole bunch more than McKoy---- Mckoy averages 5 assists, coleman 3, and Mckoys asst to Turnover at 2.1 dwarfs Colemans at .8 (more turnovers than assists)  eliminate Coleman
Crawford too has more turnovers than assists even though he controlled the ball and was often in a position to dish it to teammates - Zasada had similar stats with more turnovers than assists.  Crawford shot better from 2's, Zasada better from 3's.
When it comes down to it, who did more right things, and less wrong things, to help their team win.....     and win when they weren't supposed to......         I go with Zasada.

first team

Fogerty
Forest
Turk
Sykes
Zasada

2nd team
S Crawford
McCoy
Coleman
Ellis
Simmons

HM
Warnicke
Niebrugge
and whoever

I feel terrible about Coach Barber - if he is still ill on Friday FC, please see what can be done about a moment of prayer prior to the games.  He is a HIGH QUALITY guy.

Coach Barber is out of surgery and removed the olecranon bursa on his elbow.  As for being in critical condition, I'm confident from what I'm told that he was never in critical condition.

He is out of surgery and doing fine.

Good News Pride. We were getting info from athletic office personnel. Great to hear though.

Seems to me that one player who is being overlooked in the all-conference discussion is Todd Zimmerman of Principia. I was very favorably impressed with him last night. He scored, I think, 21 and was guarding Turk most of the time. Turk was 2 for 12 on the night. Zimmerman is 8th in scoring in the conference -- conference only stats -- with 16.4 per game.

I have not seen enough games this year to be really up on the All Conference team selections, so I will defer to you experts.

I will say that I think Coach  McKinney should be coach of the year. I was stunned when I looked on the SLIAC website and saw that Coach McKinney has never been selected Coach of the Year. How can this be. I counted 23 different selections (there were several years where co coaches were named) and not once for Coach McKinney. Doesn't seem right to me. This might not be the best year to campaign for such an honor, if FC does not win the tournment this will be conisdered an underachieving bunch. Expectations were very high going into season.  But if they do win, the torunament (and I think they have enough talent to be the first SLIAC team to win a tournament game) then I would say co coaches with Westmister. Just my thoughts, but I can't believe a coach who has been around since the inception of the SLIAC shouldn't at least once in 20 years be so honored.

Disappointing end to the Eureka season with an 80-70 loss to MacMurray Tuesday. EC never got much going in this game. The game got off to a incredibly slow start with both teams taking forever to score. Eureka settled for too many outside shots when when they weren't falling instead of attacking the smallish-Mac defense like in the first game. Eureka was bad from 3-point land in the first game too (8-27 in the win vs. 8-33 in the loss). The difference was EC did not attack the basket the 2nd go-round. And the few times they did, Fred Miller did a nice job protecting the basket and grabbing missed shots.

Eureka's biggest lead was 47-43 early in the 2nd half. Mac went on a 10-0 run to take a 59-52 lead with 9 minutes to go and never gave it up. Eureka got as close as 5 on 3 occasions. It was 74-68 with 30 seconds left, but Darnall missed an open three from the corner that would have made things very interesting.

It's sad to see the career end for 7 seniors. For 5 of them, they were freshmen in 2005-06 when the team went 4-22. Then their sophomore year, they made it to the SLIAC championship game and were the most improved team in NCAA Division III. They can certainly say they left the EC program in better shape than they found it. Thanks guys!

I will never agree with the idea of only letting 4 teams in the conference tournament. Teams like Eureka and Mac put in months of preparation before the first practice even begins. They may not have as much talent or depth as other teams in the conference, which hurts them over the course of a long season, but I think everyone that sticks it out to the bitter end should have a shot the conference tournament.

Here are my unofficial picks for the SLIAC awards this season:

1st Team
Fogerty (FU) - Player of the Year
Turk (WU)
Forrest (FU) - Newcomer of the Year
Zasada (EC)
S. Crawford (WC)

2nd Team
Ellis (GC)
McCoy (FU)
Gruenewald (MU)
Warncke (WC)
Sykes (BC)

HM
Millard (WC)
Coleman (MC)
Bell (EC)
Zimmerman (PC)
Niebrugge (WU)

Coach of the Year - Mitchell (WC)

*Sorry hotshot, this isn't a Lifetime Achievement award. Westminster lost 4 starters (if I remember correctly) off last year's team and was picked 5th by the coaches in the preseason poll only to tie for 1st place at the end.

I think I said I did those really fast.  Wasn't 100% focused when posting those picks.  I didn't take the time to look at all the newcomers, which I should have done, and I should have definitely remembered Stan is a newcomer.

So ya, Stan C, Forrest, or Vislay...:)

I agree Coach McKinney had a great year but I would have to agree with Eureka_sid that WC lost so many people, weren't expected to do well and probably overachieved, in terms of the coaches projections.  If I had to guess I'd say they'll be co-COY's but you never know.

Zimmerman did have a great year and did have great stats.  I wouldnt object if he was on the all conference team.  I think people have reservations because some people had comparable stats on contending teams while he had great stats on a less talented team and played as many minutes as anyone in the conference.
