Great night of basketball. Good crowd. Good Atmosphere.

Congrats to All the conference Award Winners. Glad most made it. Nice to see these kids that worked hard and earned them, get recognized by the fans.

Congrats to Coach Mitchell and the Westminster Bluejays. Coach Mitchell's first 20 win season.

Fontbonne just had to many weapons. You just can't stop all of them. Final 87-82.

Play in the paint: Fogerty and Storandt - 41 points and 20 rebounds.
Points from perimeter: Branch and Scheetz - 39 points on 11-16 from the 3's !!!!
At the point - McCoy 11 assists on 2 turnovers. Team only 9 total.
Shot 75%FG (18-24) and 67% 3pt (6-9) second half. After being down 8 in the first half, before going to the locker room tied at 38.

Against a very good WC team, that entered the week 19-5. Fontbonne had to beat WC twice in 5 days. Beat WC three times. Beat MU three times by double digits.

WC not having been their may explain free throw shooting.

The last weekend in Feb. is Fontbonne Basketball Time.
Fontbonne has now won 6 straight Sliac Tournament games. Three straight Tournaments. If you don't think that is playing the best basketball at the best time, I'm missing something.

ouch - my rear -  just hurt it falling out of my chair laughing, TQ!!!

AAAAhhh FC, we love ya...  No sense in me staying up late writing - you earned the honor - you had to suffer  this year with the Griff's slow start, but I'm just happy to the limit for you and the Fontbonne family for the season ending success.

As I pondered the scores, such a shame for the SLIAC winner to be out here - my impression is that if this were a national one location tourney that a team at Fontbonne's level would be more than competitive out east, mid atlantic, northeast.
But there are just so few lower level leagues out here that the likelihood of Fontbonne or a SLIAC school getting a competitve matchup in the first round is virtually nonexistent.  So Font will be matched up likely vs Wash U, or Wheaton, or travel down south to Texas or Centre - just a total longshot, and it's not going to change.   BUT this group has been there, and come close....   Maybe, just maybe, this year.....

And Justin Storandt...  what a great tourney...  just like Fournie last year - defense is a major factor in winning big games

And the All conference team... I'm fine on the first team, but if you keep things real, there were some questionables regarding 2nd and honorable mentions.
I like the all defensive team idea -nice way to recognize others -
I'd take things one step further - an all Frosh team to recognize the future of the conference -
All tourney team was fine with the exception of Fogerty not being there, and if it was because he took home all the other hardware, I guess that's as good a reason as any.....

now the fun of prognosticating about the tourney for a day, then figuring out how to get a win once the matchups are announced.

Read my previous post, fc. At least I told you that I would likely be silent with a Webster loss, and that I am a sorehead.  >:(

Congratulations on another big win for Fontbonne. They got it done. Best of luck in the NCAA tourney!!!  8)

Congratulations to Fontbonne and good luck in the NCAA Tournament!

And congratulations to the Westminster Blue Jays (note: two words) for winning a share of the league title at 12-4, the team's first as a SLIAC member!

I see that some of our newer and recently prolific posters have pushed their mute buttons, also.

First, congratualtions to Fontbonne for getting it done again. It will be interesting to see where they wind up. The D3hoops projected bracket has them matched up against Wash U -- but that may not be the way the tournament committee decides to do it

I don't know what else to say. I expect the Webster coaches and players are disappointed about a number of things -- mainly the semi-final loss to Westminster. However, I thought they all did a great job this season. So many question marks at the start, that to have a winning record and make the conference tournament exceeded my expectations. I'm sure the coaches expectations were higher than mine. But then I've often been accused of being a pessimist.

Seems that next year is a season loaded with question marks for lots of teams in the conference. I think the teams with the fewest question marks are Eureka and Greenville. So I'll look to them to certainly be in the top four when the pre-season poll comes out.

9.5 months and counting down to next November.

I also want to congratulate and thank everyone who has posted this season for great comments and observations and for keeping everyhting civil, even when there was disagreement.

Good Morning All. It never get's old. I'm glad I no longer drink. Now it's just the emotional, lack of sleep type, I ain't going anywhere Hang Over.

Last night was a huge relief. That's what you saw them celebrating. There was a lot of expectations put on this team. Anything but a Conference Championship and Tournament Championship, would of been look at as a disappointment.

They started 6-0. Then hit that stretch of @ Wash U., Elmhurst, @ RHIT, Greenville, Grinnell and @ Webster. Then finishing the season 12-2.

There was a time last night (I didn't even get a stat sheet let alone the running line) when Branch hit a 3 and Fogerty got a dunk in traffic on two straight posessions. Knowing these young men, you can tell when they get the "Not to Night" attitude. From then on I was just trying to keep the student from jinxing us by bringing out the broom. Some good young people in that group.

Last year ended with an unfinished feel. This year started with a goal. They have on more thing to complete.

The NCAA can send this team where ever they want. And, know they will get a game. They played with Wash U. and Elmhurst in the same week. Your gonna get a game.

I just have a gut feeling. I know they have projected a first round Wash U. match up. They missed on FU last year, also. FU is the furtherest south team in the midwest region, 500 miles will get you along way. There are about 6 teams that can get to Wash U.

My gut feeling is that they don't really want to send FU accross the street, unless it's a must. Two years ago when they did, it was recognized by committee members. I don't know that much about east coast conferences. But has there been a team that went to the tourney 3 straight times. Twice never left home, BUT didn't host?

Thanks for the use of the space. Texting skills have improved over last year. ???

The Wash U women will be highly seeded, just like the men.  This is an odd-numbered year, so the women get the nod in Rounds 1/2, with the men getting the Sectionals.  If Wash U's women are asked to host Rounds 1/2, Fontbonne won't be going across the street...Wash U men could be forced to the road.

Thanks Q. A ray of hope. Look forward to your report on tonights show.

In response to Greenville and NCCAA Post Season:

Greenville has a unwritten rule that a team must be over .500 to compete in the NCCAA Tournament.  Greenville ended 12-13, one game under .500.  Therefore will not compete in the NCCAA tournament.

Congratulations to Coach McKinney and the Fontbonne basketball program for again winning the SLIAC Tournament Championship and the big to the big dance.  Good luck in the national tournament!

Great games this weekend.  I think fc summed it all up pretty well.  The one thing I wanted to point out was the student fans on Saturday.

It was great to have such a good student section from both WC and FC.  Both sides very upbeat and loud until the end!  That being said, I will say that I was a little disappointed in the WC student section during the award ceremony.

While one particular FC player was receiving an award, A loud boo was heard from the WC section.  I can almost understand as this player was jawing a little towards the Student section at the end of the game.  A little unsportsman like from both sides but I think the FC player, as a player, should be held to a little bit higher standard and should know better than to let the crowd get under their skin whether winning or losing.  Just walk off the court and let the scoreboard to do the talking.

Beyond that incident, I was also a little surprised with the WC students when the two teams were being recognized.  As WC was called out for being the runner up in the tourney, I noted that every single person in the FC section was applauding the great effort and game that the WC team played.  I would have expected the same courtesy from the WC section when FB was called as the winners.  I saw exactly ONE person applaud the FB game.  Everyone else just stood there with their arms at their sides or crossed.

Now I must admit I am a real newb to these games and this is my first post tourney award ceremony.  Is this unusual.  Does the disappointment of defeat usually carry over like this?  Was I even the only one to notice and am making a mountain out of a molehill?

Anyway, to BOTH the Griffs and Jays, thank you for a great and hard fought battle!

I actually noticed 2 fontbonne players making stupid gestures at the Westmin student section - uncalled for - as HS QB says, players should be able to let it roll off their backs without being instigators - that being said, yes, the reaction of the Westmin student section to not recognize the victors in a great game was disappointing. Hats off to Fonbonne students for applauding  ALL award winners......
