To be honest Hope, I'll be more interested to hear where you get to sit than to hear how the games go, although just slightly.  Seriously though I hope you have a great time up there.  Safe travels.

What an interesting week.  This is even more entertaining than the SLIAC regular season...

Tickets for this weekend are only available at Wheaton - none have been sent down to Wash U.     However, if you are comfortable calling the Wash U athletic dept, they are maintaining a list of fans taking the trip up and holding tickets for purchase at Will call  -  the game is not expected to be sold out, but I still feel more comfortable having my name on a list....

Sorry if writing regarding Wash U on these pages rubs anyone the wrong way - I think most of the readers in this room have at least peripheral interest in 'the team next door'....

That just sounds weird.  Wheaton sure does some interesting things while hosting.  Hopefully for them it goes well or King Arena might not be seeing another NCAA game for a while....

Larry - I thought it kinda iffy myself, but felt fine after verification from Coach Edwards at Wash U......  He also mentioned to me that he had assurance from the site director (University of Chicago) that the seating issues of last week - which Coach Edwards told me "REALLY EXISTED" - would be corrected.

I'm glad it really did exist, otherwise we all wasted a bunch of space. Although, it has kept the SLIAC page moving.

Really suprised there was no discussion of the SLIAC post season awards.

By NCAA rules, the home team takes 50% of the tickets and the three visiting teams split the remaining 50% three ways.  If the visitors don't sell their allottment, then the home team can sell those as well.

Those rules are pretty cut and dried so any issues must be a seat location problem.  Where each team's fans are located in the gym.

This seems in contrary to what's on St. Thomas' site.

QuoteTickets for this weekend's NCAA Division III men's basketball sectionals in Wheaton, Ill., continue on sale at St. Thomas until 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m.-noon on Thursday. The tickets can be purchased in the main athletic office, room 210 O'Shaughnessy Hall. Adult tickets are $7, and a student/senior ticket is $4.

UST had sold about 250 of its 400 allotment by noon today. Tommie fans planning to attend should get tickets at St. Thomas before Thursday noon, as a sellout is now possible by Friday in the 2,500 seat arena.

I suspect each school was given the option of printing its own numbered tickets or creating a will-call list.

Pat -you're right - I was speaking strictly from a Wash U / St.Louis area perspective - Will look forward to saying hi to you this weekend, tho unfortunately, I suspect you may be pretty busy...   wondering if TQ will be present, or if he instead goes only as far as Bloomington to watch the ladies.....

There was a large contingent of UWP fans that did not leave right away and displaced Wheaton fans arriving for game #2.  The only way they could have fixed it was to clear the gym after the first game and delay the start of the second while they reseated fans for 2nd game.  (not very realistic and too confusing).

Q and I will be calling the games. Indeed, we may be rather busy, but I would love to meet you. We'll be readily apparent at the media table.

Wheels81 - There was no reason for the UWP fans not to stay for the 2nd game. They bought tickets for two games fiday nite. If an area would of been designated for UWP then they would not of been displacing anyone.

There is a big difference in hosting a regular season game and a NCAA game. The host school accepts the extra work when applying to host.

I don't know the exact seating figures for the the King Arena. But, it would be pretty easy. IF each visiting school sells their 400 ticket allotment, give the WC crowd the whole area behind the benches and designate 3 sections accross from the the benches for each visiting team. The extra tickets for the home team can fill the area behind the baskets.

It's not that difficult. Wheaton will know how many tickets and seats each visiting team will need long before the start of the evenings games.

Hosting is what it is. Your expect to be good hosts to the visitors.

I think we've all gotten that point and it's probably time to move on.

I feel bad that many people had a difficult time finding a place to sit. I think some of the issue was because the first game ended very close to the scheduled starting time of the second game, so it was a chaotic transition. Certainly, that was worsened by there not being clear seating directions, but I can see Wheaton's dilemma about how to fairly divide up the gym. With a rather small section of coveted chair backed seats, they have tended to go with "first-come first-served" as the fairest policy for those seats. Clearly it didn't work well in this situation where spectators from the first game stayed in their seats, which is reasonable, and people had to scramble to find open seats in an already packed gym.

hey let me perfectly clear I do not represent the Wheaton College Athletic Department or Wheaton College in any capacity whatsoever except that as an alum and fan of Wheaton sports.

If you don't have anything to do with the Wheaton Athletic Department, then why are you writing as if you do? Between your screen name and the use of "we" you give the impression that you are speaking for the College, and I think you are doing Wheaton a disservice. I'm sure you had good intentions, but saying things like "we have never had any problems before" sounds like you are speaking on behalf of the school. If the Athletic Department wants to speak on the subject they will. Otherwise make it clear that it's your opinion you are posting and not the College's.

I made this post in the UAA room - thought it would be of interest.

Wash U Wheaton     Great game, great atmosphere  -  first time I ever sat amongst the Wash U family - finally worked up the 'courage' to introduce myself to some people and was immediately taken in as one of the gang - really fun knowing which parents belong to which players - and the Wheaton crowd - any misgivings regarding the seating problems of last week were quickly erased - it was handled this weekend perfectly, and all the great impressions I had of Wheaton from my visits 15 years ago played out - wonderful crowd, even with many students on Spring break, and I especially loved how many young kids were there, painted up, cheering for Wheaton....  a packed house of really nice people.....  For whoever wins St T - Wash U, beware of the upset in Salem...  after seeing the quality last night, the winner will be a huge favorite in Salem.

This I believe was a game management problem and could very well have been just overlooked.

Best case senario. There will be no need for this discussion next week.

I'm glad to hear all worked out well. I thought this would be a corrected situation.

Watching the game last nite, as a sliac fan, one thing came to mind. SIZE !!!
This will always be the case when sliac teams meet up with the Big Boys. The sliac teams are just to undersized. Fontbonne was probably the biggest team in the conference this year. And yet, when facing Wash U., Elmhurst and Wheaton, the Griffin's were a good three inches shorter at every position.

As far as Hopefan schmoozing with the Bears fans, not suprised. This guy needs to run for public office. ;D
