Where did Fleming play JUCO?  His high school stats were negligible - perhaps a late bloomer?

Just noticed that the Webster schedule was updated to show their Tourney matchups  -  Down at the tournament in Maryville Tennessee, Webster opens with the host team, Maryville - a perenial NCAA Tourney Team, and then plays LaGrange the next night

The Webster Classic was a total surprise  -  the first game pits local NAIA team Mo Bap against Millikin, and the follow up is host Webster against....  D2 Maryville Mo, in their first appearance as a D2 team coming back to play a SLIAC team.  In reality a tip of the cap to Maryville for keeping up the relationship with at least one SLIAC team - hope we find there are more.   Anyway, that's two very good games to start off the classic.....

llcfan   --  just so you have it correct in your mind  -  Eureka sid was not a coach  -  sid stands for Sports Information Director  -  he was Eureka's S.I.D. -  I'm sure you can tell from what several wrote that we 'radicals' will miss him  -  he was a real contributor, and a good buddy.

Shortly after the announcement, I wrote a note to several on the Eureka College Administration telling  how much I respected Eureka SID and that he would be missed on these pages and as a supporter of Eureka Athletics -   never heard back from any of them....

Anyone know who the fourth team is? That is, the one that plays LaGrange the first night and Maryville the next afternoon?

Hopefan I tried to e-mail him and recognized the name but it was after I had already posted.

I didn't know him at all but I thoroughly enjoyed his work.

  Thanks for the feedback anyway.

I posted this on the men's and thought this should go here too

"Sid,

Lindsey Crum's dad / parents here. We would like to thank you for all your support for Eureka on the boards and what you did for Eureka in general.
You're posts were very well written, classy, unbiased and very factual. They in general were a pleasure to read amonst the otherwise often radical nature of posters. You are wise beyond your years as they say. We had no idea you worked for Eureka and thought you were strictly a fan.

I know enough to know that as an institution Eureka has definitely taken a step backwards with this decision.

We thoroughly enjoyed your work @ Eureka

My familiy wishes the best of luck to you and yours in this tough time. Anyone as polished as you will come out fine.

Sincerly,

Matt Crum & Pam Crum
parents of Lindsey Crum"

Just as much of a tip of the hat to Webster, perhaps more so, for including Maryville in their tournament. No real reason I can think of for any conference school to do that.

You won't find Maryville on a FU schedule. I wonder if they had trouble finding 2 more D3 teams. Mo Bapt?
Maryville? Will Webster be facing Milikin?

hopefan

The schedule for the second day says cosolation and championship game - from that, I assume it will be loser vs loser, winner vs winner - tournament format rather than predetermined matchup.

Fu's schedule is now up for your viewing pleasure.

The Maryville @ Webster situation might be a pre existing contract. Last year Wash U was the second stl team weren't they. The contract for MU to be in the classic may have been signed prior to the D2 release.

I suppose that's a possibility -- the pre-existing contract. What's just as interesting to me is that Webster plays at Millikin on 11/24, then Millikin comes to the Webster Classic. Since the second day format is winner vs winner and loser vs loser, it sets up the possibility of a second game between Webster and Millikin. There was no Webster Classic last year, but in the '07-'08 season there was a Webster/Wash U Classic at Webster. That was not a winner vs winner and loser vs loser format since Webster and Wash U were scheduled to play each other in January '08. I wonder why it's different this time. And if Maryville were still a D3 SLIAC team then the winner vs winner, loser vs loser format would definitely not be inplay in this year's classic.

This may be old news, but the sliac.org site includes a section called SLIAC Record Book that is a real in depth look at the past 15-20 years of SLIAC Hoops  -   Even with my limited 5-6 years of following the conference, it was quite enjoyable looking at the names of All conference players, all tourney teams etc.   If you haven't ever looked and have an interest, it's worth the time....

As FC mentioned, Fontbonne's schedule is up ...  I rate it as a 'tweener'...

The Griffs start out as usual at the Moody Bible Tourney -  They've faced some decent NAIA teams there in the past-  I'd still rather see them play in region teams from Indiana or Illinois - maybe even a home tourney - These games just seem so meaningless to the average fan like me...   They then go out west to play Caltech and Whittier - Caltech is close to being the worst team in the NCAA, Whittier had their best record in years last year - don't know how much is back, but this will be a good test.

Then after playing their first two league games, it's a trip to Elmhurst,  a very tall order....    home vs Rose Hulman, who beat Fontbonne last year...  and the annual affair with Wash U, the 2 time defending national champ - who can forget the unbelievable effort Fontbonne gave last year in the near miss vs Wash U.

all in all, a meaningful schedule as it starts out 'light' to allow opportunity for new faces to blend in, building to very tough games to see what they really have.  Also of interest - two tough games to start out the conference sked in December - opening at Greenville, then hosting newcomer Spalding - those two could tell alot about how Fogerty, MCkoy and Storandt will be replaced.

One disappointment  -  FC earlier had said Fontbonne was playing Grinnell again - unfortunately, not this year.....   was looking forward to that one....
