LOTG - I mentioned, on an earlier post, that I was waiting for your report from Webster.

I did some more research and Landon Kurz is at the University of Central Missouri (same school just changed the name a couple years ago).  They are ranked third in the country preseason DII.  Buddy Sodemann is an assitant at Wash U and they are preseason #1 for DIII.  Also former Westminster assitant Dylan Dudley is an assistnant at UT-Martin, which is a DI school in the OVC.  Looks like Matt Mitchell has a pretty good coaching tree going with three very good young assistants out there.

Sorry I have been away from the board for about a year, but I am back and have some WC updates for everyone.  The Blue Jays return 4 legitmate scorers with Crawford, Kovach, Vislay, and Millard.  They will need a big to come in and fill the minutes that Mike Crawford and Kurt Kuschel played.  The big will not need to score, but be a solid rebounder and defender.  This position will be filled by an inexperienced player, but coach Mitchell will have a number of guys to choose from.

There is a huge freshman class coming in this year at WC, but there is only a couple kids that should make an immediate impact.  There are two kids from Columbia Rockbridge that should provide WC with depth.  Skylar Tolson and Britton Rudd were key parts to the final four Rockbridge team and should help right away.  Another kid to keep on eye on is Justin Gilmore who transfered from NAIA William Woods.  Word in Fulton is that he is more athletic than Vislay (which is saying something).

I will try and stay up this season and provide some updates from the West.

Thanks for the good info, FrostBite. Do you think Adam Mallette, a junior who went to Webster Groves High School, will see much action this season? He has the height to play in the middle, but I'm not sure that's his most comfoprtable spot on the floor.

fcnews

This may be a first. Former SLIAC Newcomer of the Year Ben Cochran, appears on two different rosters. He is on the Wheaton and Greenville 09-10 rosters. Don't ever recall this one.  ???

hopefan

I knew he was quick, but that is a major feat!!!!
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

The Greenville roster does not have any freshmen on it, so maybe they just imported last year's roster and updated the classes of all the players, intending to add freshmen later. I can't imagine Wheaton would have Ben Cochran on its roster if he weren't enrolled there. And it is the same Ben Cochran -- same class year (junior) and same hometown (Forsyth, IL).

Adam Mallette will be in the mix at the 5 spot.  He does have the size for the position, but is probably more comfortable as a face up post player.  He has a good feel for the game and is a good passer.

y_jack_lok

Seems like Mallette has a pretty decent outside shot, also. So he doesn't necessarily have to play close to the hoop. Is that accurate?

fcnews

Well, it won't take FU long to get a look at what they have. Fontbonne travels to Oakland City (IN) next Saturday for an exhibition game.

FrostBite

That is accurate. Mallette has the range to step out the 3 point line and knock some down. That should help stretch the defense and open up some driving lanes for the guards.

It was announced in CCIW Chat this summer that Cochran had transferred from Greenville to Wheaton. In fact, it was discussed here as well. Your guess about Greenville merely forgetting to delete his name when updating last season's roster sounds like the logical explanation, YJL.

(Incidentally, Cochran's odds of seeing significant playing time for Wheaton this year have gone way up, since Jeremy Pflederer has decided not to play basketball this season.)

I remember the earlier conversation about Cochran. Good to know that he will have a shot at some real playing time.

GS- That's a big loss for Wheaton. Pflederer impressed me when FU faced them.
