GC  in the scenario you described, you don't tell us who Webster beat and who they lost to, and what Spalding does vs Blackburn... and that could be critical

1)   if Webster loses to Spalding and beats Fontbonne and Spalding beats BC, Spalding finishes at 10 - 6, Spalding is 3rd, but not eligible, and the others are tied at 9-7.  Each is 1 and 1 against each other... and everyone is 0-2 against first place Westminster.   How teams did against 2nd place Mac is the next tiebreaker, and Greenville would be 2-0, Eureka 1-1, and Webster 0-2...   Greenville would be 3rd, EC fourth, and Webster out.

2)  if Webster beats Spalding, and loses to Fontbonne, Spalding is also 9-7, and if they are included in the tiebreaker (I don't know that for a fact), the first tiebreaker is head to head vs tied teams and  Webster would be 2-0 against Spalding, While Eureka and Greenville are 1 and 1 against Spalding
.... Webster would be 3rd.....   Greenville would be 4th for two wins vs Mac, and Eureka would be out!!

What will happen?  I think (sorry)... Greenville loses to Mac and Eureka, that's 9 losses;  Webster wins two with defense, Eureka loses to Westmin...   Webster and Eureka finish with  6 losses and Eureka gets the tiebreaker for 3rd with a win over Mac.

The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Sorry, I didn't realize that Spalding still played a role even though they aren't eligible for the tournament!!

Unfortunately I think if GC loses one of the last 2 they're pretty much out, unless for some reason WU loses both.  It seems as if Eureka and Webster have those last 2 slots, and I also anticipate EC losing to WC but still wrapping up the #3 spot.

GC great to have you around.  Im relatively new to the board too...

Im with you, I think GC needs to win out to have a chance, but Im certainly not one to count them out.  You never do know.  Coach Barber should have them ready to play.  Where's Panther when we need him?  ;)

Blue-  I am baffled that you would put Moore or Randle over Forrest or Bell.  1st team all conf in my mind goes to the top 5 players in the conf.  Forrest and Bell in the games i've seen are flat out better players than both of them.  I'd even put Crawford and Ellis on there before Moore.

EC, I understand your outlook on things and can see it your way too.  I do think the coaches will tend to agree more with your picks than mine.  However I am convinced that Vislay is the most outstanding player on the most outstanding team, at this time.

Im not going to go into any more depth as to my conference picks just so that I can feel "right" or "justified", its all for fun, and these kids all play hard.  So I really hate to say player A deserves this so much more than player B.  I hope you understand.  Bell is a very worthy candidate for first team, however I chose to go in a different direction.  Having seen exactly 0 SLIAC games this year I wouldnt put much thought into my useless ramblings anyway.   ;D

Eureka takes on Westminster for Senior night on Saturday.  Should be a real slugfest.  Eureka needs a win to guarantee them a spot in the tourney.  Zasada and Bell are the lone seniors on the roster.  Eureka is 0-7 vs Westminster since joining the SLIAC and I'm sure Zasada would like to beat them at least once.

Wouldnt Bell want to beat them too?  ;)

ec_fan14

You're right Blue all the kids in the league play hard.  I respect your thoughts on all conf teams and its fun to get another fans input.

I'm sure both Bell and Zasada want to beat Westminster.  Thats the way every senior wants to go out on their home court. A winner.

I am hoping for an EC win (or worst case a Greenville loss) this weekend that way they ensure themselves a spot in the Tourney.  I would hate for it to come down to Greenville at Greenville.  Tough place to play especially in a big game.

Webster has a tall order against Spalding.  McAfee is probably the best guard in conf and they will need to shut him down in order win this game.

Something to factor... Spalding plays at Blackburn on Friday night...  The Webster game is the last game of the year for Spalding and will be relatively meaningless for them, while the game has playoff implications for Webster....   the psychological factor in this game is a huge plus for Webster...

I would argue that the Spalding players may be more up for this game.  They haven't really had a lot to play for this year other than a good record, but nothing they did would help them extend their season.  But on senior night some of them may be more interested in winning their last game than say some random game in Illinois or Missouri mid season.

But you also may be right, they may just want to get it over with.

Lots of craziness and surprises this weekend!!!  Prin completes the sweep of Fontbonne. Greenville handles Mac. Westminster gets blown out by Eureka. Spalding almost knocked Webster back and falls by one.

Westminster wrapped up the regular season championship with Macs loss and will host the tourney. That's about the only thing going well for westminster lately.  It will be interesting to see if they can pull themselves back together for senior night against a confident principia team and for the tournament.

Eureka has to feel great about putting it to westminster. I think a lot of Westminster guys saw a lot of minutes today.  Eureka should probably have the mental edge if these two meet in the championship game.

Mac can't feel good about taking a step back to Greenville.  Greenville needs fontbonne to get them one over Webster Tuesday. Who would westminster rather see, GC or WU?

Hope someone was at wc/ec or gc/mac to give us a rundown.

Into_the_Blue

Hope you were right about spalding/Webster. Bunch seems to find ways to win a lot of close ones.

GC 80
Mac 70

Score was 40-39 at halftime and stayed that close pretty much the whole game.  GC's outside shooting wasn't there tonight, and really pushed the pace on the bigger Highlanders.  McClellan had about 20 for Mac, scoring some big buckets when GC started to pull away in the 2nd half.  Randle and Robertson were banging on the boards down low, but Sichting had a relatively quiet night.  Ellis and Agomo dominated the scoring/boards for GC; Agomo had a ridiculous low post dunk over I think Slagle in the 1st half.  Kind of set off the Panthers for the rest of the game.  Ultimately I think the fast-pace wore away at the Highlanders, who were forced to put in their shooters with under 2 minutes to go being down by 6.
Of course, a huge win for GC.  But they still need some help from Fontbonne on Tuesday provided the Panthers can take care of business against red hot Eureka...

hopefan

I'm hoping that Coach McKinney is just setting us up For a big surprise effort on Tuesday vs  Webster.

On the other hand, I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were Greenville... Greenville ought to prep for Eureka as though it was the last game of the season...  if they can pull off the big win, GREAT,  but getting into the tourney with a Fontbonne win over Webster, it's just gravy......   I'll be amazed if it happens, but then who could have predicted yesterday's results?

Did Westmin just pack it in looking forward to the tourney?
Did Mac do the same?
Did Fontbonne pack it in period?

At least I properly read the Webster outcome properly.... they won it with defense... came down to Spalding having the ball for a last shot, McAfee getting the ball, not able to get a shot off who gives it up to Cutsinger who forces a move to the middle and has it blocked.....   Drew Moore had another solid game, again confusing me as to whether he is or isn't a first team all conf.   McAfee, very streaky yesterday, made 4 in a row in the 2nd half, then missed 5 in a row.....

Safe to confirm, Maryville's Jarred McKoy will be at Fontbonne next year per 'my sources'....   great kid, couldn't play under Coach Rodgers, not his fault.....   on the other hand, will not have played for 2 years, can he come back?  Fontbonne gets another point guard who can't shoot, but McKoy goes to the basket extremely well and can really push the ball up the floor.  Good defense, good hands....  The timing is bad though, there won't be much for him to play with.......

So if Webster beats Fontbonne, they are in and open with Westmin...   if they lose, and Gville beats Eureka, Greenville is in......   "Do you believe in miracles?"

The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Into_the_Blue

Was McKoy a part of the team this year?  Id say he'll do fine meshing back in to the SLIAC.

No one on WC played more than 26 minutes yesterday.  Some guys saw a lot of minutes.  Bell and Zasada each played 38 for EC.  Not sure if WC was just resting to prepare for this week?  EC_fan will probably know what kind of effort WC came out with.  Gotta give credit to EC, they were ready.  They shot almost 50% from the floor.  WC will have to have a better defensive effort in the tournament.  How did Leppard get his T?  Seems like they get a lot of them.

WC swept both Webster and Greenville but the last two times theyve played them it took OT to beat them.  Its tough to beat a good team three times in one year.  WC will have to do just that to advance to the finals.

Based on the minutes Mac's 5 main guys played, and GC's writeup I wouldnt say Mac packed it in at all.  Looks like they fully planned on trying to get a win.

Prin vs FU, looks like it was a game decided by one half.  Prin hit everything in the second half and Fontbonne couldnt hit anything.  Prin shot 64% from the field in the second half while the Griffins were at 33%.  1-13 from 3.  Zimmerman had a great game, 27 pts, 10 rebs, 5 assts, 3 stls.

hopefan

No... McKoy was not on the team this year, and was off a portion of the year before---  that's why I wonder whether he'll make it back......

Not any good at analysis of the games..so I leave that to EC Fan....did seem that Eureka used the emotion of senior night to their advantage and WC just came out flat for the whole game...Leppards T came in the first half i believe...call didn't go his way and he slapped the floor...dont believe he said a word to the ref at all....EC coaches thought it was on them but the ref told them it was for him slapping the floor...Hope that Eureka can take this momentum into Greenville and the tournament this week..

that is hilarious. Coaches must have been riding the refs a little too?
