oh yes, last year and this... really nice.... I was worried the renovation would take some of the personality, the history, away... but it hasn't.   I love the small, older gyms that remain.... part of the beauty of D3.....

The renovated gym is very nice.  Reminds me of the University of Washington (seattle), only a little bit smaller.   ;D    http://www.gohuskies.com/facilities/hec-edmundson.html

The W in the floor is quite nice, but you have to miss Winston (the bird) that used to grace center court.

D3 gyms and campuses are amazing.  Love seeing games in new places.

Blue, however you did that with the address for the site, it isn't taking....

I've been lucky enough to have played and coached out east, supported Hope for 10 years in the Great Lakes region, then down here with SLIAC and Wash U, I've seen a large number of gyms and campuses.  I'll have to detail some somewhere down the line, but believe me, some of the upstate NY, NE trips and campuses are just wonderful.

Do division 3 ncaa schools receive money for winning national championships?  If so (or at the D1 level) are there any stipluations on how that money is spent?  For instance does a certain percentage have to go toward the sport that championship was won in, whether its facilities, equipment or spending budget?

Into_the_Blue

should work now hope.... not a big deal, just an example.  hard to see what i mean anyway

I don't imagine D3 schools get income from being in the tourney, though I would think some part of the expenses are covered....  certainly D1 schools get benefits....   But i have no formal answer...    Either hope one of the knowlegeable CCIW writers reads your question and answers, or post it over there......

No. They get a trophy, informally known as the Walnut and Bronze, and that's it. (Oh, and the two basketball teams that win the national championship are typically allowed to cut down a net and keep it.)

The NCAA reimburses the participating schools for their travel and hotel expenses, which is a significant difference from the pay-your-own-way NAIA.

Thanks Gregory.  Id be just fine with only being awarded a walnut and bronze, although the board might want a financial reward.  :)

As to my other question, do you know if there is a percent that must go to the sport a team wins it in, at the D1 level?

No. I've really lost all interest in D1 over the past few years.

What's going to happen tonight?
Any chance the Panthers can pull off the improbable??

Hopefan, I presume you will be gracing us with an update after the Webster game?  I will try my best to get an update out as soon as the GC vs. EC game is over as well...

Beating Eureka will be no easy task but it can be done.  Greenville only lost at Eureka by 1 but that was two and a half months ago.

However needing Fontbonne to knock Webster out of a playoff spot might be less probable.  FU may think it doesnt have much to play for but the younger guys could have bragging rights, Forrest could go out a winner, and FU could keep Webster out.  However Im not sure that translate into enough incentive for the players.

I think Greenville wins but Webster also gets it done and the dream dies for the Panthers tonight.

GC will you be making it to Fulton if the Panthers do in fact pull off the improbable?

I've got a concern and am now going to share it with the board ....

For the last couple of months, a particular Fontbonne fan has been unhappy with most material that I have written regarding the Griffs.  If I write positive things, I never hear a complaint.  However if I write anything that is not deemed positive, it is considered unfair, unjust, unwarranted, and seemingly as a personal attack against the school, the coaching staff, the coaching staffs family, the team etc.  It evidently paints a sordid picture on the program and profoundly impacts recruiting.

For instance, the other day I wrote what I considered to be a positive paragraph about Jarred McKoy, a former Maryville player who is coming to Fontbonne next year:
"Safe to confirm, Maryville's Jarred McKoy will be at Fontbonne next year per 'my sources'....   great kid, couldn't play under Coach Rodgers, not his fault.....   on the other hand, will not have played for 2 years, can he come back?  Fontbonne gets another point guard who can't shoot, but McKoy goes to the basket extremely well and can really push the ball up the floor.  Good defense, good hands....  The timing is bad though, there won't be much for him to play with......."

For that paragraph, I was taken to task in a nasty email for the last line 'the timing is bad, there won't be much for him to play with.....'

When I say taken to task, I mean that this individual sent a mean spirited, out of line email to me -and this has happened several times before  - emails that really bother me...  this is a person who on most days can be a good friend, whom I don't quote because he has asked me not to, whom I've always attempted to show respect to....

So I will say this...  I will not be bullied, intimidated, made to feel guilty, cajoled, extorted, or any other manner possible not to post just the way I've always posted, which is  Getting To the point, writing what I see, keeping an open mind to any other intelligent objective point of view, while at times trying to stick in a little yuk-yuk humor  (ie,see exchanges between hopefan and coach dubb on ladies' page or see how I ridicule myself as a poor predicter of game winners over in the national pik em room.)...  I have always tried to do that and will continue to do so..   I THINK that any other writer on these pages knows exactly where I'm coming from.

I considered pulling a gimmick of simply not writing about Fontbonne at all  as though the school did not exist.... but that punishes everyone else, the Fontbonne kids who wouldnt get the publicity I provide, all the readers who want to hear about the makeup of the team, the description of the games, who made the big play, as well as who didn't.

When a player from 6 years ago can pull a post up that I made back then saying hey, this kid deserves all conf, he plays really hard, and he copies it to me, I KNOW that what I write is appreciated. 6 YEARS AGO!!!!!  When I call up the site and see 6, 8, even 10 'guests' on our site and I and one or two others are the only ones writing, I KNOW what I write is appreciated.  When formersliaccommish, or the current commish, or various coaches or ADs comment to me about what I've written, I know my efforts are appreciated, because they read it!

If this person disagrees with what I have to say, then get back on the board and discuss it, don't be sending emails with terminology like 'hopefan cheap shots', and 'consider the source'....  I've had it with that baloney

The anger that is coming out in this is in is no way a reflection of how I feel about Fontbonne, its players, its fans, its coach or his assistants, ANYTHING Fontbonne...   I LOVE Fontbonne, as I LOVE the SLIAC, as I LOVE D3hoops....someone will say get a life, well guys, this is an important part of my life  -  not mizzou, not the Billikins, not the Blues or the Cards, or the Rams  -  but what I consider the best level of competition there is, D3.

So tonite is the big game, Webster vs Fontbonne  -  a fun doubleheader with meaningful games for everyone....   and in the mean time, especially if Fontbonne can get it turned around from a horrendous performance at Prin, we all will be wondering what is happening over at Greenville (wouldn't it be neat if the Fontbonne game table set up a communication with Greenville to keep us informed of the EC-GC score).  AND I will be rooting for nothing more than a game decided by a great play in the last seconds-- by either team.....

I'm sorry people, I really am.... But I enjoy this too much and take it too seriously to take abuse from one person for what I consider to be level-headed, unbiased commenting on what I see and hear.  And if you have an opinion about this, feel free to share it with me tonight at the game  -  I would sincerely love to hear from you...good or bad.....
