Since hopefan has started the conversation about the photos of each member school on the new-look SLIAC conference website, I will weigh in with a few observations. First, while the photo of Principia is pretty, it doesn't show much that gives you the sense it's even a college. You only know it's a college because it is on the conference website. It could just as easily have come out of a Vermont travel book. The only two that show students are Greenville and Mac, and Greenville's is the only one that has them featured prominently. The others are just buildings, most of which are attractive.

Having said that, it raises the question of whether or not there is a right way to represent the schools photographically on the conference website. That is a question for others to answer.

Following up on the last paragraph of my post above, since buildings are featured prominently in all the photographs except Principia's, I'd guess that there might have been a collective decision to use buildings as the common feature for all the schools. In fairness to Principia, since I said their photo could have come from a Vermont travel book, it should also be noted that none of the buildings bears the name of its respective institution. On the other hand, if buildings were the common theme, Principia's photo is off target.

Now that I've said all that, I just want to make sure that no one takes it as a criticism. I think the website is great, the photos are pretty, and we should all be delighted.

Au contraire....  if the photos are there to catch the eye of the reader, to gain some sense of enthusiasm for going to see an athletic event at the school, or to have my kid consider that school, then I repeat my opinion that Prin's shot is the runaway winner.....  I'll take a Vermont campus (some of which I have seen first hand) any day.......  I was actually disappointed in several of the photos as they failed to capture the spirit of the small college campus... agreed, best seller (beyond showing a campus on a body of water), is one that shows happy students on a campus scene....

We can agree to disagree for now and let the winner be determined by the outcome of Saturday night's card game, only if played by exisiting rules, not the wild new scheme you have yet to reveal.

I find the new mobile scoreboard to be my favorite new feature of the SLIAC site. No need for text tag this year.

Great point Dennis... hadn't thought of that... just hope my cell phone can read the score... it refuses to go down to the scores on D3hoops.....

Great article about Division 3 sports in The Chronicle of Higher Education on 8/17: http://chronicle.com/blogPost/The-Last-Amateurs-/26274/?sid=pm&utm_source=pm&utm_medium=en

Some intersting comments posted after the article.

The wall on the Westminster photo is a small part of the Berlin Wall. The building to the right of the wall is, I think, the Churchill Museum. The Westminster gymnasium is where Winston Churchill, in 1946, gave his famous "Iron Curtain" speech in which he warned of the threat posed by the old Soviet Union in Eastern Europe.

Westminster has made a big deal of this, as well it should. That's why, in spite of it being one of the oldest gymnasiums in the country, it will always be there in one form or another. The Blue Jays may eventually get another place to play hoops but that building is sacred to Westminster because of its history.

That is GREAT news from Pat  -  I always just assumed it was my Cell phone/internet provider that was the cause .... if it's a D3 hoops thing that will be fixed, it will add to the enjoyment of the game... if you go to 2 or 3 games a week like I do.. it's always fun to see what's happening elsewhere......especially at half time....

Intriguing group of players makes up Chris Bunch's Webster recruiting Class  : My comments in Red

1. Willie Trimble (5'11 " G) - JC transfer from Riverside Community College (CA)...8.6 PPG last year for a 23-7 team    Found him on the net - playing California Juco should guarantee solid prospect status at SLIAC level
2. DeAarron Henderson (5'10" G)- JC transfer from Flo Valley Community College   limited minutes at Hazelwood Central
3. Jarrod Husky (6'5" F/C) - FR from Hillsboro HS...15 PPG, 11 RPG last year    First Team All Jeffco Conf   Astounding 71% FG%, all around the basket
4. Josh Noblitt (6'0" G) - FR from Oakville HS...11.2 PPG, 40% 3PT last year     had 6 3 pointers in state semi win vs CBC First Team All Suburban West

I found these kids from Florida on the internet - all three are real players nice writeups in Miami, Ft Lauderdale papers....   These kids are used to a quick athletic game.
5. Stefan Whittingham (6'3" F) - FR from Ft. Lauderdale HS

6. Thomas Evans (6'1" G) - FR from Ft. Lauderdale HS

7. CJ Hanlan (5'10" G) - FR from Ft. Lauderdale HS

8. Hollis Edwards (5'10" G) - FR from McGavock HS in Nashville, TN...8.5 PPG, 6 APG last year  good writeup in Nashville paper as leader, quarterback of his team... made Music City All star game

9. Alec Kuhl (6'5" F/C) - FR from Mater Dei HS...7.6 PPG, 3.5 RPG last year

10. Toreyon Times (6'6" C) - FR from McCluer HS  Got some playing time on a VERY good McCluer team

11. Bryton Krutsinger (6'3 F) - FR from Flora HS...12 PPG last year for 21-9 team   All Conference little Illinois Conference

12. Mel Drady (5'8" G) - FR from Vianney...6 PPG, 4 APG last year

13. Andy Goebel (5'10" G) - FR from Staunton HS...13 PPG, 5 RPG last year   3 point shooter

This group doesn't come in with the stats that Fontbonne's does, but the intrigue is the 5 total unknowns from beyond the St Louis/Illinois region... how will they compare?  Webster has had very good out of staters, but also a couple of disappointments...   Very exciting to see how theyll match up/fit in..  Noblitt and Huskey show solid local background.  Not a lot of height with the group.. Huskey is really important to this class.

I quickly checked the new site - Noticing the campus photos of each school - most are attractive (Greenville and Westmin in particular caught my eye), but the shot of Principia is a HOME RUN!!!
My first away game of my college career was at Principia for football. I was just overcome at the beauty of the school and the setting on the bluff overlooking the Mississippi. Any wonder that no school in the next four years of football, basketball, or track came close.

Hopefan - Thanks for your hard work. Looks like a large crop of guards to compete for spots. Competition is always good.

RFM - Football at PC with no medical crew blows my mind.

Fontbonne is trying to set up to Audio webcast their away games. Worked well for the softball team.
All of FU's recruits are present and accounted for.
