Tommorow nite FU plays Wm Penn. Wm Penn barely beat a very good Spalding team. Will be a tough nite for the Griff's.

Too bad we don't get the early Spalding - FU match-up.

Readers, I'm sorry.. Ijust had a huge write up on the westmin and greenville games and lost it all on the last line... I'm not gonna redo it.....
one line synopsis
Westmin, very disappointing first half, nothing around the basket... great comeback with a press in the last several minutes, fall just shot.....   Kurt Kovch out for year with broken foot..
Greenvill gives up 15 for 35 from 3 point line....  Seaton, Agomo, Hilliard all look good, Jonas McBride good steadying influence, but defense has to get better....

Forget bout the conference being a runaway for Westmin.... this thing is wide open....
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Webster's new faces, transfer Willie Trimble 22 points, and frosh Jarrod huskey 11 points, a bunch of rebounds and several blocked shots, lead the Gorlocks to a surprisingly easy win over Nebraska Wez 74-60, game ends with a left handed dunk by Trimble off a steal ... Awesome!!!

Westminster comes back at Greenville to beat Hendrix....  Greenville playing Rhodes now...

Eureka loses to Rockford!!??  Eureka shoots 5 for 22 from 3's

The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

I absolutely, positively hate it when that happens. Just wants to make me chuck the keyboard out the window.

First, credit Nick Jones with the steal and assist on the dunk. Second, it was definitely a great game by the Gorloks, but I wouldn't call it surprisingly easy. They worked their tails off for that victory and I heard several people say it was the best two halves of basketball they'd seen a Webster team play. That could be true, but a November 2003 10 point win over Wash U has to be as sweet as any non-conference win Webster has had. Nebraska Wesleyan had more height, and their big guys are good, but the Webster D kept them away from the hoop most of the game. And the D also didn't allow for any wide open threes by NWU. Just an all-around great performance.

In the second game Principia lost to Sewanee 55-48. Todd Zimmerman is on the Prin roster and hopefan asked if he was going to be playing this season and was told yes, but that he hadn't traveled down for today's game. His presence could have made a difference in the outcome of this game. Seems that what ailed Prin in this game is what ails them most of the time -- after working hard on  their offensive sets to get a decent look at the hoop they can't get the ball to go in. I haven't seen a box score, but I'm curious to see if they shot better than 33%. If they can ever solve the problem of getting the ball to go through the hoop, they will give any team in the conference a run for their money every game. And the curiosity about how many players they would have, given their small roster last season, have been answered. I believe there were 16 on the roster today.

Greenville beats Rhodes.... The different matchups obviously played to the SLIAC team's favor today - very good day for the good guys so far... now if Fontbonne could get another win in chicago!!!

Yjak   my take... a 14 point win, relative to a 4 point win , is easy.... with 4 minutes left, this one was over
as for the surprisingly adjective, the scouting report I was given said Webster should be happy to finish within 10 points... that is a 24 point turnaround!!!!     Surprise!!!!!!!!     ;D ;D ;D

Well, hopefan loves an argument. Sure, a 14 point win relative to a 4 point win is easy, but there was no guarantee at 4 minutes that this game was over. It worked out for Webster, thank goodness. But if the players had been as confident of that as hopefan was, and had relaxed (as hopefan did), it could have turned out differently.

As for the scouting report, who listens to those things, anyway? By now hopefan certainly should know better than to believe them.   :D

MacMurray loses to D1 SIU Edwardsville 88-73 after being ahead 48-38 with 16 minutes left. That's a 50-25 final 16 minutes. Press release from SIUE website:

Does Fontbonne have an SID?, or someone who is supposed to report scores? I wake up in the middle of the night and anxiously go to see how they did vs Wm Penn... forget it nothing on D3hoops, nothing on SLIAC.org, nothing on Fontbonne site....  SLIAC.org has NO Fontbonne scores or Data...  the Fontbonne site has only the Moody score but no stats..
The new Fontbonne site may be pretty, but I don't want a page full of Google directions to Moody Bible (I can get that on Google) I want results and Box scores....  come on Fontbonne SID, if you exist, step it up...

The Fontbonne SID comes thru!!!!   on the Fontbonne site...  Wm Penn 76  Fontbonne 71.....   about the same margin that Wm Penn beat Spalding......  doesn't bode all bad for Fontbonne...

Now then if Fontbonne would just report some data to SLIAC.org so we can see the boxscores and who's playing!!!!!!

Sorry Guys. Just got home and don't have a box score in front of me. FU had a shot to tie with :12 remaining. FU played without starting pg Jared McCoy (who had an outstanding game against Moody). Jared went to the floor after a loose ball in the Moody game. Bang his knee on the floor and had some swelling Saturday afternoon. He was held out for precautions.

Game in a nut shell 13-24 from the free throw line for FU. Unexplainable.... You can't win games that way. JT Thomas was leading scorer, rebounder and 5 blocks. Was selected All Tourney as was Lou Dioum. Tyler Gardner continued his great play. All 12 who played showed a lotof positives.

But still a loss..... Back at it Tuesday.

hopefan

Fontbonne will be the only team I'll see this week with home games Tuesday vs Robert Morris Springfield and Saturday vs North Park.....   Robert Morris, usually a gimme, appears to be a little better this year... they've won 4 games against Bible colleges, and had non lopsided scores against Maryville and Ill Springfield...  Font can't take them for granted..... North park will present a real measuring point, even if they were referred to as Brain Dead Zombies by one long standing and obviously frustrated fan.

Some very... very impressive new faces already seen.... Dylan Burton of MacMurray, Willie Trimble and Jarrod Huskie of Webster  (Alex Kuhl and Hollis Edwards have also made very positive contributions), Charlie Henderson of Westmin, Tyler Garner of Fontbonne, Madison Medley of Blackburn....

The more I think about it, the more I want to write about how much I enjoy going over to watch games at Greenville....  unfortunately it's just a snig too far away from Eureka missouri to go to a game any old time... but when there is a GOOD game, it's not an unreasonable trip even when i have to get up early the next day....   I really like EVERYTHING about watching games at Greenville, especially since they remodelled the gym and put in new bleachers a couple of years ago.....
What do I like....
1) A McDonalds right at the exit off 70, so I can leave work in St Louis and hustle the 50 mile drive over, get a quick meal and woof it down in the 5 minutes over to the school
2) the pleasant streets of Greenville off the main drag up to the school...  beautiful older homes, a community that I find hard to resist
3) The new gym.. bright shiny, comfortable bleachers... not too crowded on the team bench side... not crunched and rarely is someone in the way of your view of the game.. the opposite side, full of students and towns people really into the game
4) The loudness of the gym...  far and away the loudest in the conference... the 300 or 400 fans can sound sound like 3000, the small pep bands drums and oft sour notes make the whole gym reverberate.
5) Greenville coach George Barber...always a big "hi" and more than willing to talk hoops if he has an extra minute
6) The Greenville way of doing things.. no hint of backtalk to the officials, rush to pickup fallen teammates, or opponents, raise your hand when charged with a foul, the prayer circle after the game that includes the opposing team
7) Always a fun team to watch.... most of the guys play, they usually are a quick running team , and though they're often a 500 team, they're always a threat to win at home

If I had it to do over again.. it's where I would have urged my bball playing son to consider...

Hopefan - You just described every small town in Ill. ( without Mickey D's ) on a friday or saturday nite back in the 60's. What a great childhood. No Class system back in those days, every team was in one Class. Worden had 100 kids in HS. Gym held 350. Population less then 800. But Gym was always packed. Wow. And, from the bench as a kid, the crowd looked like 1000's. But, back then you better win. When we went to Worden they had 7 coaches in the previous 7 years.

I've always said, "You can't beat Ill. Basketball" Thanks for that post...... One virtual +1k for you.

I think that the Director of Admissions at Greenville should just copy and paste your post and put it in their admissions brochure. That is one of the best testimonials for a college that I've ever seen.
