Just to sum up..... It can't be readheads dissapointment in FU's success...... So I'm sure it has come down to my posts..... Never was high on the Karma scale  :)... I'll try to turn down the enthusiasm.....

The first 20 years of Fontbonne basketball in the SLIAC:
3 SLIAC Conference Championships ( BC leads with 5 )
5 times runner – up
Leads every conference opponent in head to head series
4 Most NCAA Tournament appearances ( MU has 3 )
5 Most SLIAC Tourney Champs  ( BC has 3 )
Most Tournament wins at 16. 2nd in win percentage 70% ( GC leads at 75% in 2 appearnces )

Not a real bad start to a programs history?

AAredhead - Thanks for checking on the Branch situation. Would be interesting to hear UMSL's viewpoint. I was only privy to the result.

Nope. Never a head coach. Lifetime assistant in bball. Head Coach in Track and Cross Country. Thanks for your interest in my coaching background. For that matter, thanks for allowing me the time to answer some of your concerns.

I'll try to get you a couple more JV results. Did not know we had that big of a JY following. It was hard to draw a home crowd when I coached the JV. But, the Wash U vs. FU jv games were always interesting.

Dioum played at Oakton CC, years I do not have. Answers to his citizenship are out of my area. I'm sure a call to FU AD Maria Eftink, could result in more of the info you require.

Denny's mention of coaching JV brings back a lot of memories...that was a major task for me when I coached, and we used it as a recruiting tool... played a number of Div 1 schools including Colgate, Vermont, West Point, Cornell, Siena, Marist....not too good for my win-loss record.... it was great experience for the frosh in their development to Varsity players.... would agree, tough to put fans in the stands, but the school's web sites should give more attention to it....  I think some of us (me), would consider attending JV games to see how some of the guys not yet seeing Varsity time can play.  It was very enlightening to see Webster JV play Illinois Wesleyan JV prior to the varsity game.... it was the first local JV game I've seen....

A month ago, I was involved peripherally with the fact that a young man was considering transfer from one D3 school to another and a party involved was seeking advice....  I called a SLIAC AD to find out expectations, and was told several points...
the player had to inform his coach that he was considering transfer and was going to contact another school (no formal release was mentioned to me)
The player had to contact the NCAA and fill out paperwork (assumedly over the internet)..
My guess is that this protected all parties.. the kid, the school he was leaving, and any school he contacted.
It was not permissable for a coach from another school to talk to a kid about the new school until those two requirements had been met....
Now then.. is this followed... I don't know.... and are there different guidelines for a transfer to a d2 school.. again I don't know...

I took yesterday off from D3hoops as my family waited until then to celebrate Christmas... the 25th had baby arrivals and work schedules, bad weather and in law considerations..

interesting discussions however....

The one thing that gets me is the dancing around direct questions...  my question as to why 3 regulars weren't in the boxscore was never answered though the post was labelled as assinine.... and even further mystery was added by the revelation that two of the three will return, but not which two... I don't get it, but it only opens the mind to wrong reasons when right reasons aren't offered up.....

I am also surprised that with 1 practice under his belt, Matt Jett is labeled as likely to be getting minutes vs Eureka...  Matt's absence in the first semester was a big disappointment, and I hope that the problems that led to this absence have been cured under Coach McKinney's mentoring.....

Anyway, I'm going to enjoy the quiet of today by taking a look at Tuesday's games, and will share my thoughts and expectations throughout the day.....

Hawaii Pacific 66
Westminster 37

Westminster - 24 turnovers and shot just 30% from the field.

Hawaii Pacific, a very good NCAA D2 program, beat D3 Carleton by just 6 earlier in the year (for what that's worth).

As I mentioned earlier, it's going to be VERY tough for Westmin to take all day today to get home, and in two days take the long bus trip to Mac and step off the bus ready to play a critical conference game......  it is clear that the 2nd game in Hawaii was used as a pure tuneup...16 players in boxscore, 12 with double digit minutes....

Hopefan - The way you asked the question was asinine. Not the question. Either way you'll have to wait for an answer. I know its been a long time. But, now days student - athletes have a Right of Privacy. A parent can not see their childs grades unless he/she signs a release. Same way that a families financial situation is protected, hours taken, GPA, ACT score.........

With that being said, why would I come on a public forum and break this rule. Just because Hopefan asked? LMAO. I tried to give you as much info as I could without details. If you can't respect that, TO BAD. So now are you happy with what got offered up? Who cares.

True colors are being shown. Do I need to go back 100 pages and pull up someones Rant over why FU went to Hawaii. Instead of playing a couple of good D3 schools here at home. It will be a tough road game for WC @ Mac. I remember the blast FU took because of timing scheduling Grinnell, during conference season. Although someone mentioned earlier this year how much they enjoyed getting a chance to see them play. Nice soft toss on this one. Carelton loses by 6, but this was a 37 point tune up for the SLIAC's preseason pick?

Keep those Karma point friendly posts coming. You'll have enough for that rubber snake soon.

Yjak how was your New Year. I'm sure I'll get a chance to see you at the Webster v. Fontbonne womens contest. Happy New Years.

The 24 hour Q/A time has expired for this year. See ya at the games this week.

Fontbonne Men played Chaminade on their last trip to Hawaii. The women played the base team.

My New Year was quiet, thanks for asking. Wife had to work and son was out at a party. Funny story about that which I can share on Saturday. Also a bit of a mess in the house due to a stalled kitchen remodel -- another story for Saturday.

Hope things will begin to turn around for your dad real soon.

Hey Denny:

Going back and reading previous posts, I read about your book. I would love to read it.

I am making some assumptions here, but assuming this is your first book, finding a publisher is said to be harder and take longer than writing the book! Why not post it on the internet. Maybe a chapter a week. Now, you will not make any money that way, but I bet you didn't write it to make money. Your topic is not going to be really attractive to mainstream America, but for guys like us, it is a home run. Maybe the guys who run this site would let you link from their home page to your website and as I said, maybe post a chapter a week. If it goes over well, it might also get you the exposure you need to find a publisher.

This is a great suggestion.

Well 2011 is going to be good one. The book will soon be turned into a series of shorts. Due to the persistance of the Ex, a FC grad...... And the old man might make a few bucks to boot. Should know by April.

But a coffee table book has been suggested. I have photos, newspaper clippings.... That really give it character.

The jewell. A pic of pops from the paper the nite he set Tri County scoring record. Dropped 39 in a 44-42 win.

Pops was "Run and Gun, before Run and Gun was cool".

All American Red...  if you are finding those rules on the NCAA site, you are obviously right... I just passed on what the AD told me, and the conversation may have been incomplete, or misinterpreted  by me... Another thing emphasized was that everything should be done through the school's compliance officer, once again assuring the process is carried on according to the rules....
if you have found rules pertaining to this on a site, I'd be interested to read them, if only to continue to apply it to the situation I was involved with...   any chance you could copy them in a post, or let me know where I could read up on it?  When I was Asked, I was really ignorant of what the rules were.....

Denny, of course I would be in the front of the line to buy a copy....  but would hope to have earned  a sizable discount for keeping you on your toes over the last 5 years  ;D ;D ;D

My philosophy for the New Year. When you do something, that is judged by the public, for 50 years your not going to please everyone. Pops' respect amongst his peers is all that really matters. Oh, and the god childs, 100's of adopted kids..............

He has always said, " Coaching is a proffession where your employment is based on results that you have no physical control of."
