so is jett out? why was he not mentioned last=fall when denny gave his glowing account of the best recruiting class in the history of the SLIAC? Why did woods only play four minuters?

As Hopefan pointed out Jett was a high recruit. Jett will get a MRI tomorrow. Woods hadn't practiced once in 2 weeks.

And I'd let Tyler Garner and Eric Jenkins shoot as many 3's as they want.

I pay for my own trip. Glad you found something to do Pat. Desert v Beach no contest. I'm sure all 28 student athletes enjoyed their free trip to Florida this year. Could of been a little warmer. Some good practice time @ Eckard College. All in All good trip.

No doubt. I had two coaches at our tournament who have been to Land of Magic, etc., say it was nice not to have to get on a bus to go to practice or go to a game, since the arena is right in the hotel.

I am a frequent Vegas visitor, a frequent beach visitor, and an annual D3 holiday trip goer (I've been to all in the last 30 days!).  So I'm declaring myself a subject matter expert on this topic! :)

Pat, my biggest question about the Vegas trip is the location.  The South Point is miles from the far south end of the strip (Mandalay Bay).  You're probably looking at $25 cab rides from the hotel to anywhere on the strip.

Parents and fans, of course, can stay somewhere on the strip if they want to.  But I assume the student-athletes stay at the South Point?  If so, isn't it a complete pain (and expensive) to go do anything on the strip during down time?  I've been to meetings at the South Point, and as far as I recall, you can't walk out of the hotel and do much of anything, can you?

I think the Vegas trip actually sounds great for parents/fans because, again, you can stay at Mirage or Paris or MGM, etc.  I'm just not sold that it is a great trip for the players due to the location.  What is your take?

(Many of the beach-type trips allow the players to stay somewhere they can walk to local attractions.)

Pat Coleman

This is true. I know the hotel's shuttle was a popular option for getting out. I don't know how much a cab would have cost but it is indeed six miles to the Mandalay Bay.

Six of one, half dozen of the other, I suppose. Shuttle to the strip or bus to the ballgames and practices. As far as I know, South Point is the only Vegas hotel with a basketball arena in it. Though that could certainly change. :)

Webster vs Prin started out slow last night, but once Webster got going, it was one sided....

2 observations....

1) Todd Zimmermans stats line don't reflect how much he does for this team.... He was in an assist mode last night, seemingly the mindset he entered the game with, but also because of good defense... but countless times he would penetrate and dish to the wing or top of the key, only to have the open shooter miss the 15 to 22 foot jump shop... he quite honestly would have had 20 assists if Prin had been shooting decently

2) Clearly the best frosh group in the conference is Webster.....  Huskey, Kuhl (who had an offnight last night), Hollis Edwards, and Stefan Whittingham are a heck of a nucleus.... If Coach Bunch can find a pure perimeter shooter in his next recruiting class, all bases are covered.  Huskey needs to get stronger to finish off around the basket, and Stefan Whittingham is learning but has a great natural instinct to take the ball to the basket.  I think that if Willie Trimble had not appeared, Hollis Edwards would be a 25-30 minute per game starting point... he does what a point guard should....

more about Huskey... compare to big freshman Henderson of Westmin, they're just about even... Henderson is capable of playing the perimeter too, and is agile enough to dribble drive from the wing to the basket.... Huskie's number are much better because he's more of a focus... but these are the 2 best pure big man prospects that have come to the SLIAC in a while.. will be fun to watch them develop...  (by big men, I mean 6'6, 6'7 pivot types...not comparing these guys to some of the good 6'3, 6'4 forwards that we have seen in the conference)

oh, and don't laugh, but I would assume when Huskey was down with the bum ankle, the Webster staff worked on free throw shooting with him.. and it looks great... he's gone from a horrible shot put motion to a smooth, shooting motion, nice wrist etc... maybe a little loose at the elbow, but a major improvement... he can now be a 70% shooter rather than sub 50%.

Over the hump? Dad has 9 more treatments.... 18 weeks remaining. He's losing 3 pounds a week.... He's lost over 50 pounds total. He's got a 7 inch stent in his throat that must come out, but is major surgery that requires them to crack his breast plate and go in. And he's living off a feeding machine through a tube in his stomach.

Check back in 12 weeks and if he's still able to take the treatments, I'll be shouting from the roof tops. Not over the hump, but the fight is on.

Coach of the Year? They can keep that one...... Give it to Hopefan. You make three straight trips to NCAA Tournament and don't get it. Well that's all I'm saying.........

Wondering how the Fontbonne JV game previously mentioned went, and if Dan Lisch's stock went up... or down?

I have to be honest, I have been checking the SLIAC thread 400 times a day as work is slow until next week.

I know we are a whole weekend away, but are you going to be there next Wednesday when Webster plays host to Washington University?  I can walk to Webster from where I live but have never been in the gym.  Where do you sit for that one?

hopefan

WUh.. I'll be there... sitting same place  (I didn't mention on the side opposite the team benches...  the gym is not overly large, you'll find me easily.....

OK  given my spotless track record this week, I'd better get to projecting!!!!!

Tonight, Spalding is at Mac... this should be a good game, but I just don't have the energy to take the round trip to Jacksonville again this week... was originally counting on going up....
Still know little about Spalding, but Mac looked good vs Westmin until a coule of plays put them behind with 2 minutes left....  It's spalding's turn to take the long bus ride... Mac wins, and maybe by more than expected!

Then on Saturday, Spalding goes down the road to Blackburn.....  BC's poor performance against Webster makes me think that BC's strong performance agaist Mac earlier is not likely to be repeated.... Spalding goes home happy with a win

Westmin takes the long trip to Eureka, and if you want to talk upset, this has a chance to be it...  but I just don't think it will happen, and Westmin will wear them down...

Prin at Greenville.... not close... I was very disappointed in the level of Prin's play last night at Webster... they were  not very good.... Zimmerman cant do it himself....

Fontbonne at Webster... if this were the first game of the year, and I was looking at returning names and writeups on the new guys, I'd have said this game was a toss up... but it's not, the season is almost two months old, and we've seen how each team performs... Fontbonne beat Prin by one, and I thought Prin was ... not good... last night....
No one for Fontbonne....except maybe Jamal Thomas, has met preseason expectations, and certainly the team as a whole is a huge disappointment to those close to it....   I don't see this one being close, unless Fontbonne all of a sudden finds some heart and really PLAYS.....  Drew Moore again did not dress last night for Webster... looked somewhat uncomfortable walking... hope he heals for big games coming up....   but...  Webster wins this one....

hard to please you denny. Just repeating some positive i heard. you remind me of a women that  if you tell her you like her new hair style, she gets mad and says "what was wrong with the old one."

I also would be interested in hearing how Daniel did in the JV game last night.

have a good one, everyone!

Been following for quite awhile now, and while I do think that some of your initial concerns were justifiable, it now seems that you are merely trying to pick a fight for no good reason.  At a certain point in time you have to know when to quit AA.

Now you seem like you are just trying to rile Denny up.  It now seems IMHO that you are almost like a scorned lover.  (which makes me wonder if you are perhaps a former scorned player or friend of...)

The above mentioned JV game was postponed by Concordia and rescheduled to 1/27. Shame... Besides Lisch it would of been a good 30 minutes of time for Woods and Buford, to get their legs back under them.

AA just stating facts. Dad completed the entire 12 week protocol for small cell lung cancer. All 35 radiation treatments and 12 weeks of chemo. Until we were then informed Oops!!! Not lung cancer. Colon cancer on the lung. Same as it was 8 years ago. We have just started the proper treatments. Just stating the facts of his situation.

PgKevin - Thanks for your comment. It's just the nature of the beast when you post under your true name and your the son of the Coach.
