Someone who wants to will get Huskey on that too... He has excellent rebounding form and as Denny puts it, chins the ball with elbows out...  turns in that posture to look for outlet pass... if wrong person is in wrong spot, they'll get clobbered.... no intent, no swinging of elbows...  it is a horrible call about 50% of the time, but clearly correct and needed in some situations... I don't think anyone in the SLIAC is going headhunting looking to hammer someone..... so in my mind,in our conference, it usually is a bad call.....

Denny... just saw your last post.... that woukld surely have led to D3Hoops Poster Hall of FAME....

D3Hoops poster EJECTED for Official (or Water cooler) Abuse!!!!  (if it had happened)

CCIW guys reading this.... has any poster ever had to fess up being ejected from a game????

(ok, I'll confess, I once was ejected from my daughter's soccer game - when she was 12 - for relating to the official that if she had been hustling down the field she would have seen the play in question properly - must of been the straw that broke the camel's back because.."SIR, I'll have to ask you to leave!!!!"

Denny,

It's Wednesday, January 19 at Fontbonne. I'm not sure when but presume it will be at half time of the Men's game. Fontbonne is an appropriate choice since President Golden and your Dad got the SLIAC (me) free office space for the first five years I was on the job. That all ended when a couple of tenured professors, who were sharing a cubbyhole, came by (I made the mistake of leaving the door open) and saw the spacious office I had.

While I'm in the room, many thanks for Greg Sager for his nice post on January 6th. It's been  long time since anyone called anything I did "awesome". I'm coming at that issue from the standpoint of what will make the team better, not what the parents, fans, etc., or 20 year old kids want in this moment.

I meant to respond to your Europe post when I read it but got sidetracked.

You did make a very good argument for the trip to Europe.  I especially agree with the standpoint of more games, more practice, less possible injuries that could hurt the season.

I've never been to Europe with a team so I can't say about which the guys would appreciate more.  I know going to Hawaii with the team we learned a lot about the culture, Pearl Harbor, and enjoyed the scenery (black sand beaches, waterfalls, volcano, etc).

I have been to Europe though and agree that the culture the kids were exposed to would be something the treasured if not presently, in the future.

I guess the sum of my points is great arguments can be made for both beacuse both have obvious pros and cons.  All this talk about taking trips makes me want to get on a plane for Hawaii or Europe!

Of the SLIAC teams that have been to Europe, what countries did they visit?

Thanks to Brian Hoener at Fontbonne SID office...out of the clear blue sky he sent me a stat sheet from the Mac Fontbonne game..... what does it show?

Well, the total fouls are not out of line.... Mac 18 fouls, Font 21, and I assume a couple of fontbonne fouls were picked up at the end... Fontbonne shot and made more foul shots than Mac..... Fontbonne's foul pain is that almost all fouls called were against their starters, and likely cut into their playing time... the stat sheet doesn't show minutes played.....

The difference HAD to be turnovers... I'm wondering if several were missed on both sides, as Mac shows only 4 to 13 for Fontbonne.....  But somehow, this led to 22  yes 22 more shot attempts for Mac than Fontbonne, leading to 8 more field goals for Mac....Rebounding was practically even.....    tough to win a game when the opposition has that many more looks at the hoop...

Well, as I said before, this game was important for Fontbonne, but not nearly as important as saturday's game vs Greenville   --  Font has to win at home ...

I like the starting lineup.... garner is a frosh, he'll have ups and downs....

Unless I get special Birthday dispensation to go to Louisville on Saturday, Greenville at Font is game of choice.... Ladies game also very important to both teams.

I'm not sure if WashU is down some this year but I'm very impressed with the Webster win over the Bears.  WashU had recently beaten #12 Illinois Wesleyan (Former Westminster player Buddy Sodemann was a coach at WashU last year and is at IWU this year).  They also play University of Chicago to 2 points so it looks like WashU had been playing good ball.  If Webster can continue that kind of play, it could be scary down the stretch.

Spalding plays well at home, with a tough road trip for Webster and them coming off a high, I think Spalding gets it done.  Should be a great game.

Mac should win at Eureka, sounds like the Devils are struggling to find themselves right now.  I'm sorry to hear about the Leppard kid, last year at the tourney I thought he had a ton of potential.

Westminster will most likely handle Prin at home.

Greenville / Fontbonne should be another great game between these two.  I'd put my money on Overtime with Fontbonne pulling out a close one.

Curious to know why you think Fontbonne has to win.  Not saying you're wrong, just want to know the thinking behind it.  I thought that too but then looked at standings and if Fontbonne loses, Prin loses @ WC and Mac wins, Fontbonne would be tied for 6th but still only 2 games out of 4th place.

Mentally this might be a must win.  Again, not saying you're wrong, just wondering what your basis is for the statement...

Blue, if you look back a page or two, I show a little system that tells what the teams fighting for a playoff trip must do...  I have assumed that Westmin, Webster, and Spalding (though not eligible) are in the top group....  Mac Greenville and Fontbonne are in the middle group, and Prin, BC and EC inthe bottom.....

the middle group is assumed to lose to the top group, to defend home court against the other middle group (who they are fighting for a playoff spot with), and to beat the lower group.... if each of the 3 teams does that, it will end up in a 3 way tie... but a + 1 for doing something out of the expected and a minus 1 for failing to do the expected shows how those teams are doing for a playoff spot beyond wins and losses...

if font loses to Greenville at home, not only do they get a minus 1, but Greenville gets a +1... it's a 2 game swing.... if font were to then Beat say a westmin to make up the loss in the standings, they are still behind Greenville because Greenville would hold a tie breaker between them assuming Greenville wins at home later.  My little system shows that because Font would be back to 0, while Greenville would be a +1.   The head to head matchups at home are crtical.....

as I said, all games have gone as expected thus far with the exception of Mac's win over Webster, which is a +1 for Mac....if all games go as expected the rest of the season, Mac will be in 3rd, Gville and Font tied for 4th....

I would like to change my origonal statement to Dissapointed not "Disgusted". This was the best game FU played all year. And played good enough to win a big one and build momentum.

Hopefan - Officials usually find away to balance out fouls. Always seems to happen. Minutes played. Woods (14), Thomas (29), Fleming (18), Hamilton (33) and Dioum (18) from the starters. Woods, Fleming and Dioum are major contributors to not even get 20 minutes.

Hamilton in 33 minutes at PG 2-4 (1-2) 2-4   7 pts. 6 rebs 3 assists and 3 turnovers. I can't tell ya how proud I am of this kid.

What did your comment have to do with my Quote?

You made a comment, so AARH felt the need for a slightly denegrating (at the very least), snarky comment.

Par for the course from that participant.  Of AARH's 36 posts, 27 (75%) of the posts have been directed towards, about, mentioning, or in some other way taking a shot at you or your dad.

Only 9 posts have been of a general nature, at least by my count.

The story was true, though. Dad was and is old school. If they had a list of most active T's, he may be on it. He's used T's for a lot of reasons. Get an officials attention on something. Protecting a player. Sometimes to motivate his own team.

Back in the day, when his team was not performing to well, Dad walked up to an official and said " Please go ahead and T me up and save us both from shouting."

PointSpecial - Every time your school comes to mind, I remember taking a Cross Country team to UW- Eau Clare for NCAA Regional. It was about 20 degrees and the golf course that was holding it still had snow on the greens. During warm up jogs the UW-SP men's team was jogging around barefoot with no shirts. Everyone else was looking for layers of running clothes. Now that was some tough young men.

Denny... what are your expectations for tomorrow...  Gville vs Font??
