Fontbonne down 18 with about 8:30 left. Timeout and 3 subs and full court man to man jump press. Freshmen Eric Jenkins scores 10 points including a big 3 Pt and 2 ft's down by 1 with .09 left to win by 70-69. Lisch played a controlled PG, for most part. Another pitiful nite from the line.

Side note: Eric is making the switch from HS to College while being deaf.

Well, it was certainly an entertaining game... (Prin at Fontbonne).... I didn't take notes, so don't ask me how Prin coughed up an 18 point lead... they got it with good 3 point shooting (8-14) in the first half and Fontbonne's atrocious defense, which gave up layup after layup, none of them by Zimmerman as the previously banished Lisch shut him down virtually the whole game.  Good move by Fontbonne coaching staff in going with a smaller lineup in the 2nd half, as it may have been a key factor in defending other Prin players.... besides Jenkins last minute heroics, I can't overlook 3 big 3's by Frank Sheetz, the last two of which really seemed to bring Fontbonne back into the game... the other major factor was Prin's foul trouble.. playing with only 9 players, and getting into major foul trouble, they had to play the final 8 minutes soft, and that helped fuel Fontbonne's comeback.

Despite all, Prin staff in my opinion blew it in last nine seconds.. giving it to Zimmerman and having him go length to length against Lisch.... Lisch was not going to let it happen, and Zimmerman hardly could get the ball up the court,, the last shot was no more than an unmakeable throw... Angle, Beal, or MacDonald could have had the ball up quicker and maybe Zimmerman could have shaken Lisch with some off the ball screens.. oh well, what do I know...

after the game was disappointing, as an exciting win wasn't satisfying to at least one Fontbonne player, who while shaking his head up and down like a clown,  mouthed off not only to Prin players in the hand shaking line, but to his own teammate as they walked off the floor.... Guess he wasn't happy about the personnel changes in the 2nd half...
I've been told that I misread the incident in the line badly, so I will apologize up front...also see the next two posts from Denny and me

Great to see Denny, Mrs. McKinney, and Fontbonne fans have a moment of excitement and joy in what has been a very down season.... The reaction  by the small crowd when Zimmerman missed the final effort was tremndous!!

Sorry Hopefan. It's been a good year and we've agreed on most all. But, you totally missed this one. PC's Zimmerman, Beal and Angle are some of the leagues biggest trash talkers. Beale was warned on two occasions by the ref's during the game involving Dioum and Fleming. Zimmerman has history with this team.

I was 5 feet from the hand shake line and it was Zimmerman that mouthed at Dioum passing through the line. Zimmerman did not appreciate Lisch's style of defense and attempted a cheap shot during the game. Beale just does not quit chirping. The individual you're talking about clowning was behind Dioum in the line and thought it was directed toward him. Fleming being a Senior and Captain was the one trying to calm him down. Best friends.

Prin seems to get a pass because of who they are. This is the same type of thing that cost Fogerty a concussion and had to be held out of a game at Westminster. You'll see them again. Watch their lips.

... the other major factor was Prin's foul trouble... playing with only 9 players, and getting into major foul trouble, they had to play the final 8 minutes soft, and that helped fuel Fontbonne's comeback.

Prin's starters foul totals... Beale 0, Angle 2, Zimmerman 3, MacDonald 2 and Gillman did foul out. Although they could of had quite a few more.

To say PC had to play soft, takes away from a great effort by Scheetz, Hamilton, Fleming, Jenkins, Dioum and Lisch. This group played some great defense and showed a lot of energy and desire and got the job done. The run and jump press resulted in some steals.

Dioum finished with 17 and 10. Fleming shot poor but had 7 and 11 boards (8 offensive) Jenkins had 10.

No Karma knock on you. I just think you didn't have the best seat. And you had your mind on Hope v. Calvin.  ;)

ok Denny... I apologize... was passing on my perception of the incident.....  we've never had a poster on here from Prin.. I'd be interested in hearing their take... but what you say would certainly account for what I saw .. also sincere apology to the player I was talking about, but as a lesson to be learned, what was SEEN was your response in the line, not what the Prin player said.. next time, let it go right by you.. you got the W.

as far as fouls, you don't mention that Hasenmardi, who is the only strong kid on the team, also fouled out, and that Sydness who is also a regular in the rotation, had 4 for a large part of the 2nd half....  players 8 and 9 for Prin are clearly non players, so the 7 man rotation clearly was hampered by fouls.. they had to sit in a passive zone the last 5 minutes.....

incidentally.. the Hope-Calvin game was incredible (watched it on the DVR when I got home)....Wish D3 fan support could grow to a fourth of that level down here......  Calvin's new facility seats 5000+,  and the listed attendance for the game yesterday was 4680.

So it was the passive zone. Not the defensive pressure of FU. Dioum's 5 steals in the second half.

I'm starting to thing it's the type of kids FU gets that shades your preception. If you smile and appear angelica it doesn't matter what your words or actions are.

Minus the reserve: You have one player with zero fouls, two with only 2 and one with 3. And this makes you play passive. Yes, Scheetz's 3's were because of the zone. But, Diuom, Jenkins and Hamilton's pts in paint were earned.

Ask Brian Fogerty his perception of being tripped intentionally and hitting the floor head first. Or, how Lisch would of felt if Zimmerman's elbow to the face had connected.

But, that's OK. We all can't be the WC and WU's of the world.

PERCEPTION. Hmmmmmm.

My two cents as to what made it possible for FU to win:

1) The press Denny mentioned
2) Prin's Stanley Beal missing the front end of a 1&1 with about 38 seconds left and FU getting the rebound.

If Beal makes both then Prin has a 3 point lead and the likely best outcome for FU in regulation is OT.

I get so sick of Dennis and his spin on here. Where do you get off calling out the Prin by name? The Prin Men's BB program has more respect around the league than FC could ever dream of. I will will never go to another FC game until changes are made.

As soon as anyone questions anything that goes on at FC you attack them and then you go into the sympathy mode. FC has been one drama after antoher for years. How could FC trail a team like Prin by 18 points?

And don't tell me about discipline problems. The worst behavior I ever saw at a basketball game was by arguable Fontbonne's best ever player when he went nuts on coach McKinney in a time out huddle with five seconds left in a one point game with Rose Hulman his junior year. He broke the locker room door after ripping off his jersey and throwing it in Coach McKinney's face and screaming "I will kill you you f****ng old man." All of this was in full view of the crowd. Coach McKinney was in the locker room with him when the game ended with a last second put back by a Fontbonne player to win the game, with the head coach in the locker room!

The whole crowd was in shock. It was eerie how quiet the crowd was as a last second game winning shot was made - but all the attention was on the yelling from the locker room. I have never have seen anything like it. I am not here to crucify this young man and I will not mention his name, but he should have been arrested that night. It was that bad. His penalty: he had to sit out one game. Would a bench warmer been given the same penalty? I lost all respect for the Fontbonne program that night.

Now Denny, deny that happened. And this was right when all the rumors about xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx? By having no consequences for behavior like the above, Fontbonne is its own worst enemy. Would Joe Bench Warmer been given the same treatment? Then (I have been told) there was an arrest of another key player on that team for drunk and disorderly conduct for pulling a fire alarm in a Maryville dorm, two nights before he played aganist Maryville! Who bailed him out of the Clayton jail?

Now Spin TAHT.

Good Old Red Head. Are you privy of the entire disicpline of that action. No. Your comment about a player arrested for drunk and diorderly, for an incident at MU? And bailed out by who? I have absolutley no idea of what your talking about. But, you have the luxury of throwing anything you want out and hide behind a user name.

I don't know what TAHT is to be spun.

And, I'm more then sure you will not be missed. Please don't come back.

I'm the only FU poster on here. And, I will not let one of these guys be acused of actions, without the whole story.

You are a FAN. You can choose any game to watch. But, you can't choose how a team is run or how disicipline is approached. Why? Cause your only a FAN.

Do you think what happened in that one moment is more important then the results? Your talking about a young man's life. And, you just can't give up on kids. That's the easy way out.

Denny McKinney

AA - I'm sure you have proof of the Maryville incident you just tossed out. Just like everything else you've spouted on here.

But hey it makes for good entertainment, right. Go watch some Meremac games they have to be more entertaing then discussing a pre-season #7 vs. #9 game. But, no one has mentioned the loss at Spalding yesterday. And, now the #1 pick has lost 2 in a row.

this is normally the time of the year that you get mad and swear off this board and then reappear. remember "I had game" last year. Like nobody could figure that was you. You are privy to discipline at FC? Where is it you have coached? You claim to be a life time assistant. Who have you worked for? What is exactly is your role at FC?

Just thought I'd add that Prin talks A LOT during games. I talked to a friend who played against them last year, and he said he was so suprised when a Prin player passed it to a person who made a shot, then started trash. He couldn't stop laughing because it was so unexpected. He said they talked all game - they were really hard to take seriously.

Wow, Westmin loses their 3rd in a row.... and now all of a sudden two factors come into play...

Webster is two games up, though they can't be happy with the closeness of the scores on the road this past week at Prin and Eureka....  Huskey and Moore go 2 for 16 vs Eureka... you gotta come ready to play

now we have a dog fight for 2nd 3rd and 4th...  4th place matches up vs Webster...  Westmin joins Greenville and Mac with 3 losses....
HUGE games this week
Mac plays at Spalding Monday night, though watch out for the weather
Then on Saturday, Mac plays at Webster, and Westmin plays at Greenville.. two BIGGIES... incredible, but Greenville could easily be in 2nd by the themselves after Saturday... and Mac has to score the upset to avoid being in fourth alone...  obvious Mac has the toughest schedule this week....of course, if Fontbonne were to score the upset at Westmin, THEY could be back in the playoff picture if they were to follow up with a win at Eureka....
