I didn't see season ending. I thought he might be able to return by tourney time. I guess it was worst then I thought. Thanks for reminding me. Hope nothing to serious. Never got a chance to see the young man play.

Regional rankings are out... SLIAC is shut out...  Webster men do not make it...   The conference leaders play a solid schedule, but to get ranked, they have to win most of these games... Beating Wash U, who is 10-8,  and Nebraska Wesleyan at 5-14, and the SLIAC schedule who have beaten virtually no one else, is not enough to overcome the losses to Ill Wesleyan, Rust,  and Mac... unfortunately the wins over Sewanee were not regional games, and even if they were, would not have helped much as Sewanee is sub 500.   As can be seen, Webster would almost need to be perfect if they need a "C" pool bid, because of the poor performance of SLIAC teams playing out of Conference Regional teams.

Got a PM. It is season ending. That puts more on the shoulders of Jones and Moore, to give Huskey some help defensively. May be the reason for the zone. Sounded like Kuhl could of really helped. So would of the San Diego kid. That young man had a huge upside. And a nice DIII build.

Saw rankings. OWP and OOWP just kills Webster. A good win at Wash U, but Wash U is down this year. Can't catch a break. Augustana or South?

Even perfect. No way we're talking Pool "C" here. Absolutely No Way.

As always winner takes all.

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

Yeah - talked about the "winner takes all" on Hoopsville most Sundays... nothing in this conference warrants a Pool C bid this year.

You saw something I didn't with that kid...   I saw him in one varsity game and he looked like a deer blinded by headlites....maybe you saw him in a JV game?...I never did...
I'm much more impressed by this year's frosh Steffon Whittingham, similar size, who has showed signs of being a four year player with his aggressive moves to the basket....

He dominated in JV play. And I believe was taller then the player you mentioned. The kid was a freshmen. "Deer in the headlights" is part of the learning curve. This kid could of been as good as we have. Banger with nice touch to 12 ft. I wonder where to get his phone #. LOL

ok here it is --   Hopefan's all SLIAC frosh team... yes the timing is a little strange....  it will make it easier if I do it again at the end of the year... ;D ;D

I based it on Conference performance, as compared to potential.....  obviously, if the varsity rotation was difficult to break in to, it would hurt a player's chances of making this team

Dylan Burton    Mac   6"3" 3 man... 14.6 ppg  58% from the field... as good a leaper as Vislay... super to the basket, good looking jump shot... easily newcomer of the year if it weren't for willie Trimble.

Jarrod Huskey    Webster   6'6" pivot  8.8 ppg  56.9% from the field  6.6 rpg... the big man Webster had to have... injured ankle seem to have hurt mobility... needs to get stronger...  nice touch around hoop...

DeShawn Curtis   Spalding   6'5" 4-5 man   5.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 52% from the field  ...  Haven't seen him, but he's starting on the 2nd best team in the league, getting 22 minutes per game, and has had a couple of big games....

Joe James   Westminster    6'1" guard...  6.4 ppg.... only shooting 30% from field, but as an off guard is getting 4.1 Rebounds per game, and over 2 assists per game

Naveed Hosseinmarti   Prin   6'4" wing...  7.3 ppg, 51.6% from the field....  6.1 rebounds per game... not starting, but getting 24 minutes per game.. I love the way this kid plays, bull in a china closet... surprising soft touch on 12-15 foot jump shot

2nd team
Hollis Edwards   Webster
Colton Pettyjohn  Mac
Charlie Henderson  Westminster
Tyler Garner   Fontbonne
Thomas Blakemore  Spalding

let the discussion  or controversy, begin.....

I'd just add FU's Jenkins in the Players to Watch category. Good job Hopefan. No Controversity here. Liked to have gotten a year out of Jett and Rolwing. But, as Forrest Gump said "S**t Happens"

Hopefan - Was just discussing an All Time Sliac Team. You sure missed some great ones. MU's Henry Shannon, FU's Stacey Ross and Roy Woods, WC's Jason White, WU's Jeff Riess, MC's Brad Bryant ........

These players were a level above what we have now. They were fun to watch.

Denny McKinney

MU's Henry Shanonn is probably most recent and was a 1st Team D3Hoops AA. I'm sure there is info on here. 93-94 FC team was probably the best ever, no AQ  ;)

hopefan

Yep... missed all those guys... the shame of it is, I was here since 1987... but I was so spoiled by Hope basketball, and then coming here and immediately connecting with Wash U hoops, I never paid any attention to SLIAC....  even when my son was being recruited, we kind of looked by the SLIAC (which is a shame because Hope ended up being just too good)...Well at least Coach Myers got me interested in Maryville and I found out about things in the 2000's...  Shannon played with Johnny Jones at Maryville... Johnny and my son led Eureka HS to 2 of its best seasons in the 90's....

You were around then when little brother, Dino, set crazy career 3 Pt record. First ever with 400. hit 403. Sadly only 18 as freshmen. Dad wouldn't play him. 149 as a junior shooting 50.9*. he only had 50 career 2's. Lol

Chad Fournie's older brother Dean was PG.

The All Frosh SLIAC team was greeted with such a positive response ( ;D ;D ;D), that the All Sophomore SLIAC team will likely be posted today!!!  Stay tuned..
to giv a hint... I think the coaches took that recruiting year off, or our surrounding NAIA neighbors found some extra money that season..... :-[ :'( :-[ :'(... but there still could be hope......

Denny,  moved to TX for economic reasons - forced choice at the right time.  Brother is doing great as well - life is good and the living easy down here.  Your dad and family are in our prayers.   Hopefully I make it back up there before to long - the wife misses it, as do I (some).

Webster posters on board. Smells like Tourney Time.

Here is a nugget you may not of known. Brian Grasle is an asst at FU this year. Hoping the experience will help him land his hometown job.

He's been a big emotional lift for Dad. If I'm diving in a fox hole for battle, I'd definately want him in there with me.

D. L. Loyd - Where ya at? How is your brother?

So as not to be too hard on this year's sophomore class, I took a look at how 20 key seniors from this year did as Sophomores....
I found:
9 played key roles on their team as Sophomores (Jones, Meeh, Restoff, Zimmerman, McClellan, Vislay, Agomo, Traeger, Sheetz)
5 played minor or next to nothing roles on their team (Black, Wagner, Mallette, Seaton, McBride)
5 were not in the SLIAC and transferred in  (Moore, Robertson, Gilmore, Fleming, Thomas)
1, Bacon .. Spalding was not in SLIAC

So if we consider the Soph class to be weak, we at least can expect that we may see some tranfers come into their class next year, and that a couple of guys in their class who haven't gotten much of a chance will emerge...
Based on SLIAC Performance
Class is taken from rosters on school sites

First team All Soph SLIAC
Skylar Tolson 6'2" guard Westminster....   16 ppg, 54.4% from field, 57.1% from 3's ....... clearly the current MOP from his class in the SLIAC... outstanding perimeter shooter, runs the show for Westminster...

Mark Lessen  6'7" post   Eureka   8.8 ppg  6.3 rpg....   I really expected more.. great size for SLIAC, could become dominant around the basket... needs an aggressive attitude....

Jametrus Brasher... 6'6"  9.6 ppg  4.2 rpg...  haven't seen him, but good stats on 2nd best team in conference

Stanley Beal   5'10" guard   Principia   9.8 ppg  3.9 rpg   Plays alot of minutes, very active on the floor.... numbers will grow with Zimmerman's graduation

Chris Williams  6' guard Blackburn... 12.2 ppg, 23 assists, 43% from field.....very quick, consistant performance off the bench, huge game vs Mac

2nd team

Eric Hamilton, Fontbonne..  tossup between him and Beal... 28% from line pushed him to 2nd team
Brandon Adams  Blackburn... rebounder at 6 per game
Johnell Hardin   Spalding
Rutger Neece   Greenville
Luke Bishop   Mac

HM   Gillman Principia, Labrice Williams Spalding

MIA award... Brady Slagle... Mac....   last years outstanding frosh, did not play this year... hoping we will see him playing at Mac next year
