thanks for the info pq. anyone know why it is on this site that Coach McKinney is set to announce his retirement but there is absolutely nothing on the FC website about Mckinney missing the game, in the hospital or getting ready to resign? Strange. Who besides Denny could be D3 "source" announcing his retirement. To be honest, I heard last spirng that the school had told him this was it and reafirm with the players during the season. Why sop much secrecy? I hope Coach McKinney went on his own terms.

My pic for the trn, MAC. They got the hot hand.

He didn't get there until half time.......heard his girlfriend tell a parent that he had somewhere to be at 6 but didnt get in until 7 and then they got lost.

Now that is the inside scoop!!! ;D ;D ;D
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

sportsfan1968

My "source"....not Denny.......said that there will be more information coming about Coach McKinney's health which could be what the retirement talk now is about.  I have talked to a couple of the current players and not a one of them said there was ever talk about him retiring or resigning at the end of the year (prior to this last health incident).....so either the rumor isn't true or it was top secret.

Either way it doesn't really matter because both him and his family needs everyone's support and prayers right now.  Wishing you the very best Coach McKinney and family.

Hopefan....the inside scoop would have been IF I told you where he had to be!! ;D

could well be and thanks for the info. rumors have been for the last 15 years that this season (fill in the blank) would be McKinney's last season. Jo Pa and the guy coaching football at St.John's in MN are both in their mid 80's, so who knows, Lee Mac and his trusty sidekick Dennis may resurface. I just think it is good he is taking the time he needs now to get well.

I think the difference here is that after 1390 whatever games, he wasn't on the court this week.  That hadn't been the case any of the last 15 years.  And, after all, rumors are just rumors.

With a rumor and $.25 you used to be able to get a can of pop.

Webster beats Greenville, Westmin beats Prin.... so things come down to Tuesday... If Webster wins over Fontbonne, they'll host, Westmin-Mac will be 2-3, Webster - Greenville 1-4... can't even imagine Fontbonne upsetting the applecart....  Win one for Coach McKinney, yes, it would be wonderful, one for the ages, .... but not from this group...  Somehow though, I'd even look forward to a conference tourney in Fulton just to see it happen.....

this old redhead is like you hope, i'd love to see the bonnies pull off an upset, but this group tanked it a long time ago. too much talent to win only five games playing in the SLIAC. i guess history will record their signature win as the win of Moody Bible College.

hopefan

on second thought, given my work schedule... let me just have a moral victory for Fontbonne and a real win for Webster.... I hardly have the time or energy to go over to Fulton twice ;D ;D ;D

Faces in the crowd yesterday...
Current commish Will Wolper to make presentation to SLIAC HoF
Formercommish Rich Meckfessel to accept that honor... looking as dapper as ever... bringing a touch of class that no one else can match to our little conference...congrats Coach
and finally, Denny McKinney, expressing great hope and optimism to all regarding Coach McKinney's health.

and a fun supper with Yjak and Furbug....  the three of us practically cleaned out a whole Chinese Buffet!!!! ;D ;D ;D

How could you forget former Missouri governor Bob Holden????

In conversation with Will Wolper, Sliac commish, he refreshed my memory as to how the All Conference teams are selected....    Coaches are to vote 15 points down to 1 point in descending value as to their selections...  this would add up to 15 players (not sure how a tie would be broken should the 5th player on a team be tied .. who would stay, who would move down?   and top point man would get the Most Outstanding player....

Let me tell you, it is a TOUGH vote this year....  I've seen as many games as any coach, and when I tried to start ordering players, it is extremely difficult....  I find myself remembering and being influenced by recent happenings, and obviously by the impressions created in the games I saw, as compared to the ones that I just reviewed in boxscores or stats...

Another problem, the SLIAC had a number of very good Guards.... I see nothing about voting by position, but wonder if coaches would naturally vote only 2 or 3 guards in the first five...

Unfortunately, I missed seeing 2 key players.. Julian Lott and Madison Medley from Blackburn, neither played when I saw BC....  I can only go by stats...

and yes... there are some radical changes from my mid conference season comments....

the top 3 were relatively easy, though ranking 15, 14, 13 was not...  I felt Zimmerman, McClellan, and McAfee  were there....  Trimble has fallen out as his final 3 weeks did not sustain his previous level of play in my eyes...

When comparing numbers of the top 3, McAfee quickly went to No 3... He didn't play the minutes per game that the other 2 did given Spalding depth, so his rebounds and assists per game were short of McClellans and Zimmermans... but his 3 point % was far shortof the other 2, he didn't get to the line nearly as often, and his assists to turnover ratio was not nearly as strong

so..
15   McClellan... Mac... 2nd in scoring, 2nd in Assists, top assists to turnovers, 5th in rebounding

14 Zimmerman... Prin...  1st in scoring, 1st in assists, 2nd in Assists to turnover, 8th in rebounding

I put McClellan 1st because he had a WIDE margin over Zimmerman in Assists to turnovers.. and in rebounds....    points and assists were virtually =

13  McAfee.... Spalding.....   not close in the overall stats line to the top 2, but just a very smooth, big time guard... 3rd in scoring, 4th in Assts to turnover

12   Lott.... Blackburn.... I really wish I had seen him play, but there is no denying his numbers...4th in scoring, 3rd in Assists to turnover, and also grabbed 4 rebounds per game...

11   Moore....  Webster....  I surprised myself with this vote, but comparitively speaking, better rebounding and less turnovers than other forwards Vislay, Agomo, Hilliard, Dioum

10   Trimble.... Webster... Excitement is overwhelming, but when it comes down to it, while his shooting was comparable, he had more turnovers and lower assist to turnover than other leading guards

9  Burton..... Mac.....7th in scoring, shot 58% from field....  And only 1 turnover per game!!   Rebounding kept him off first team

8  Tolson.... Westmin..... Deluxe shooter... 55% from 3 point range... may be next years McClellan for savvy leadership.... Very few turnovers, but very few assists too...

7   Vislay...  Westmin......  Failed to meet expectations, and spent too much time wandering the perimeter.... Still, 5th in conference in scoring, but rebounding fell short

6  Agomo... Greenville....  3rd in conference in rebounding, but turnovers and lower % from field kept him from being up farther on list

numbers 5 to 1 were very tough as I had 9 names and only 5 slots... lots of plusses and minuses
5   Medley.... Blackburn....   Scoring, rebounding, low turnovers

4   Lessen.... Eureka.....  I debated between him and teammate Wagner...  Wagner rebounded more, but Lessen scored more and had fewer turnovers

3   Robertson... Mac... had some down games, but when I saw him, old school tough as nails

2   Jones... Webster....  Did everything for Webster... hand injury hurt his numbers....

1   Hilliard... Greenville.... Consistent scorer, team leader

those that came close Dioum Fontbonne (turnovers hurt), Wagner Eureka, Gilmore Westmin, Seaton Mac

What about steals? What about intangibles such as defense in general, as opposed to steals which are quantifiable? Did you factor those in at all? If not, when you contemplate those things does it change yoru thinking about anyone?

And while you're at it, how about an all-defensive team.

Quantifiable but *very* subjective to the whims of the stat keeper.

Yeah, I've always wondered about that. So probably best not to use it as a quantitative measure of performance. Thanks.
