Yjak, Having seen everyone play but Lott and Medly, I feel that I have a valuation of their talents beyond the numbers.... the numbers that were put out were in many cases there to support my preconceived thoughts....  but certainly the numbers help to split hairs when ratings became blurred...  and there were clear lines in my thoughts where players were grouped, but the ratings do become blurred within those groupings.....

What's up Hopefan...What seed did your team get for the conference tournament.....

Hey Rustcollege, thanks for asking and glad that you visit the SLIAC page now and then....  I don't have a 'favorite team' in the conference... I support the basketball conference as a whole and simply enjoy the great competition among the teams in the conference... I try to pick the best game to see each Wednesday and Saturday... a good game, to me, is a close game where both teams are going all out and have a chance to win it...  the Rust - Webster game was a GOOD game...

now then, I do maintain allegiance to former favorite teams, and 2 of 3 are having great years...  My alma mater, RPI, where I played and coached, finished tied for first in their conference and have a shot at making the NCAA's....   we moved to Michigan in the 80's, and became supporters of Hope College, and they have won their conference..  when we moved to St Louis in the 90's I was totally a fan of Wash U until I connected with the SLIAC.. unfortunately Wash U was down this year, and while finishing slightly over .500, will not make the tourney....

I know you are probably disappointed that Rust will not likely make it this year, but they had a great season, and should be in good shape for a run next year... if I remember right, you will be playing Webster again.... will look forward to another great game

Our northern most SLIAC team, Eureka, is over 500 miles from Holly Springs Mississippi... as exciting as it would be to include Rust Basketball in the SLIAC, I fear that's a little too far away

to further prognosticate on where the SLIAC winner might play.....

count on travelling!!!...   closest school with a chance is Illinois Wesleyan, and they would have to score a couple of major upsets..

Realistic opportunities would include trips to :  (distance from St Louis - it would be diff if Greenville Mac or Westmin win conference tourney)

Augustana   rock Island Ill   228 miles
Manchester Ind   257 mi
Hanover Ind  298
Wabash in Crawfordsville Ind   231 miles

There are 8 other solid possibilities Luther (Ia), Hope (Mi), St Norbert (Wisc), Wisc River Falls, Wisc Stevens Point, Concordia Wisc, Centre (Ky), Wittenburg (Ohio)....  all of them are between 350 and 500 miles away...

GC Panther 01

Looks like GC had another "this close" moment last night losing in OT to a pretty good Spaulding team.  If they can just finish could definately shake things up in the tourney.

Webster beats Fontbonne... out of respect to the McKinney family I won't comment on Fontbonne's effort.....   Webster played well when they had to, nice prep for the tourney... especially encouraging was Nick Jone's play, as he was more involved in the offense, especially around the basket... and Cody Bradfisch and Robbie Meeh continue their outstanding play off the bench.....

So we're set for Friday at Webster ...
Mac vs Westmin at 6:00, Geenville vs Webster at 8:00

I think not commenting on Fontbonne's play is a good idea....can you imagine what an emotional roller coaster this has been for those young men....much less for the McKinney family.  What a sad night  :(

What are your thoughts for the tournament?  Do you think Webster can win it all?

hopefan

Webster CAN win it all, but history tells us they are still looking for their first trip to the dance.... I'm not thinking they are 'peaking' right now, but their performance was a little better last night....  the Mac Westmin game should be a classic.... if Webster can get by Greenville without playing down to a tight finish while Mac and Westmin beat each other up, they may have an advantage on Saturday....  of course Greenville is still capable of pulling the upset, but their game vs Webster last week wasn't very solid....

I'm looking forward to 2 great nights of hoops, and hopefully 3 very close games!

the fc admn. totally mishandled this whole mess. this might have been the most dysfunctnal team i have ever seen. what about the players? what about the seniors? did they get a good effort? why didn't someone in the admn over there step in and by at least xmas say "enough is enough." coach mckinney should not have coached this year. i know that is not the poular thing to say, but often times the truth is not. and yes i do think the players best interest should have been considered. it would have been a hard decision, but it would have been the right one for everyone.

fc alum need to be asking some tough questions about what is going on over on wydown. i see there new ad just graduated from fc three years ago. wow what a mess to walk into. coaches there have never lasted long (except lee mac, and he was his own boss.)

it is good to hear that coach mckinney is doing better. i felt sorry for him this year. hopefully the rest will get him back to where he was last season.

Hope, what history are you referring to? In the history since the re-implementation of the SLIAC Tourney? Webster's has made trips to the dance before.

I didn't think Webster had ever made it to the tourney... can anyone verify for me?

Webster played in the NCAA tourney in 2002, a year in which there was no SLIAC tourney and Webster won the conference with an 11-3 record, receiving the AQ. I think they also made the NCAA tournament a couple of years earlier in the no-SLIAC-tourney era. Since the conference tournament has been renewed Webster has not won it and thus has not been to the NCAA tournament since 2002.
