Looks like 4.5 to 5 hours on Google Map.... maybe less if you hustle....

Does anyone have a suggestion as to best route to get there.... 67 whole way up looks most direct, but is 55 to springfield, on up thru Peoria quicker?

225-260 miles depending on route....

I have done this trip a few times.  In my opinion, Springfield through Peoria is the best route.  There are a few Bed and Breakfasts in the area that are less expensive than most hotels.

Glad to hear you are going.  The thought crossed my mind, but then I was offered a free ticket to the MU/KU game on Saturday.

Well game plan then is 55 thru Peoria, just planning, won't be able to commit until Thursday, even Friday morning because of work.....

Interesting stats. Augie and Webster have 3 common opponents -- Wash U, MacMurray, and IWU. Augie beat Wash U by 23 at Augie on 11/22/10 while Webster beat Wash U by 3 at Webster on 1/12/11. Augie beat MacMurray by 3 at MacMurray on 12/20/10 while Webster split with MacMurray losing by 4 at Mac on 12/1/10 and winning by 8 at Webster on 2/5/11. Webster lost to IWU by 4 at Webster on 11/29/10 while Augie won all 3 of its meeting with IWU -- by 2 at Augie on 1/26/11, by 2 at IWU on 2/22/11, and by 24 in the CCIW tourney championship on a neutral court on 2/26/11.

What does all this mean for Friday's game? Nothing!!

Correction: IWU defeated Augie in the B'town meeting.  Since the season scores then stood at 137-137, the tourney game blowout came as quite a shock. :(

thanks to old buddy Flying Dutch Fan for the comparative stats....  when i saw them this morning, my thoughts were:
1) wow, very similar performance
2)...  now, if they were only against the same level of competition....

I liken this game to a D1 3 seed vs a 14 seed....augie doesn't present a strong enough resume to be a number 1 seed, and Webster certainly has done well enough and has player personnel that move it off the bottom couple of rungs to a 14 seed....  This is an improbable, BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE, task....

FDF... hope to see you and all my other Hope tourney buddies Friday if i can get out of work by noon......

hopefan - we'll be there for sure, with plenty of Hope fans.  I here Augie is on spring break so their students will not be around.

Webster TRIED....way to much Augie size and great perimeter shooting put Webster down and it was obvious there would be no recovery...  would have been closer if Willie Trimble had been hitting.. he played well and was getting shots... but nothing would go in....  Drew Moore AND Hollis Edwards had their BEST games of the year, Jones and Huskey played like Spartans... until the SLIAC somehow gets better, it's going to be like this...  there is no avoiding the top ranked teams.....

GREAT ATMOSPHERE...  Hope travels well and brought probably 600-700 fans, and Augie had a big crowd....entertaining, and a difference from SLIAC was the 30 to 40 elementary age kids, many sporting Augustana shirts, playing various forms of basketball, football, and dodgeball on the floor behind the stands, oblivious to the game the rest of the family was watching....  that's one indicator of why the CCIW is better than the SLIAC... these kids are raised on Augie sports, and one or two of those kids will probably be an Augie player in in 10 years....

Thankyou Senior parents for having your kids at Webster and showing such great support this year...

and thank you Webster Basketball program for all the good minutes you gave old hopefan this year.....

This is as public a place as I can think of. I want to thank Webster University journalism student Josh Sellmeyer. Josh wrote one of the best pieces on my Dad that I have read.

www.webujournal.com

Josh did this piece during a very sensitive period. His proffesionalism and ethics are unmatched. I think this young man has alot of talent. One of the posted comments below the story is from Walt Sckoeneke, the SLIAC's first commisioner.

The Journal is a student based publication that goes out to the residents of Webster Groves. The actual printed piece includes quotes from several former players and Coach Bunch.

For Webster University to give almost an entire page to a rivals coach shows a ton of class.

Thank You Josh. You have a bright future.

I see on the NCAA site that the Blackburn job is open... meaning Kirk Chandler has made the choice to pursue other opportunities..

Coach Chandler was 24-74 over 4 years at Blackburn... when added to his record at Averett, career record was 109-294....   I admired the way he conducted himself on the sidelines, but the record showed a change was necessary....

I'm wondering how the search at Fontbonne is going too....

In my mind, both of these jobs have tremendous upside.... Blackburn COULD have some of the best returning talent in the conference, if someone can come in and quickly put it together....  and Fontbonne with its winning history will continue to be able to pull in good SLIAC level talent....

This might not be a great time for Blackburn to be looking for a new head coach. Millikin is looking for a new head coach as well, and one has to think that the CCIW school will get dibs over the SLIAC school in terms of downstate coaches expressing interest in these jobs.

Blackburn was a yearly SLIAC contender and won a couple of championships when Joe Ramsey was the head coach there.

They stupidly fired him and the basketball program, and the entire athletic program (he was also the AD) haven't been the same since.

And, ironically, Joe Ramsey had been the head coach at Millikin for 21 years before moving on to Blackburn. He's the last Millikin coach to have won a CCIW title.
