WU FAN

Greenville leads Webster 28-26 at halftime.  Very fast paced half with lots of missed layups.  Should be an interesting 2nd half.

WU FAN

Webster knocks off Greenville 85-72.  The Gorloks come out on a 12-2 run in the 2nd half and never looked back.  Simply put Greenville doesn't have the stamina or depth to run with Webster for an entire 40 minutes.  That's the way it's been all season when Webster has won and plays their own game.  The 3 losses in conference have all come when the Gorloks have allowed the opponents to control the tempo.  Looks like the final few games of the season are going to be VERY interesting.

i don't want to give away too much information, but hope you are too wise!

hopefan

goodness... two big games and they both went opposite as I thought...

Totally gutsy performance by Webster... particularly Hollis Edwards... he literally couldn't bend over and pick up a ball during warmups, yet plays probably 30 minutes... Don't think Greenville ever recognized the problem.. they never really isolated him to challenge him with their quickness....  Webster needed to control the tempo and they did so well....  that and a snakebit Simon Martin who couldn't miss against Mac, but must have had 5 layups roll out tonite... Greenville just couldn't recover the 2nd time they fell behind in the 2nd half... all of a sudden it was Robinson and Whittingham and Smith from Webster who showed the quicks.

Westmin beats Mac in ot....I'd have never thought...

so where are we now

Webster 11-3   plays at Mac Saturday, Fontbonne Tuesday

Eureka    11-3  plays at Westmin Sat, Eureka home Tuesday

Westmin  10-5  plays Eureka Sat

Mac   9-5    plays  Webster Saturday, Eureka  Tuesday

Greenville  8-6  plays Prin Saturday, Spalding Monday.

notes... Webster and Eureka have clinched spots in the tourney

Westmin is in if they beat Eureka

Greenville is in if they beat Spalding and Westmin loses to Eureka

Mac is in if they beat Webster and Eureka

I can't begin to work out all the potential tiebreaker situations......  Spalding games count too....

WU FAN

Just in case you start working on all the scenarious hopefan I'll share this again:

Tie-Breaker:  The following procedure shall be utilized to break all ties for SLIAC Tournament seeding
and qualification:
(1) Head-to-head competition between tied teams
(2) Record vs. other SLIAC teams, starting with first-place
(3) Quality of Wins Index, Conference contests only (see Appendix E)
(4) Use seed, not place finish.  Break other ties first, use team seeds rather than place finish
(5) Look at losses.  Using the same formula as the quality of wins index but taking only loses into
account
(6) Look at wins.  Using the  same formula as the quality of wins index but taking only wins into
account
(7) Disregard the "always return to head-to-head competition once a team is eliminated" and use the
tie-breaker to put a team in the Tournament or to assign a higher seed.
(8) Coin toss
The tie-breaker process for multi-team ties will always return to head-to-head competition once a
team has been eliminated.  Only games counted as Conference competitions shall be used in tiebreaker process.

I gave the tie breaking process a little thought yesterday...  as in most of these processes, many of the steps can be interpretted in multiple ways.... I'll probably look over it again the next two days, and probably get very frustrated..

The important 1st place hosts has to come down to Webster or Eureka barring an upset of Webster by Fontbonne (Webster would have to lose to Fontbonne and Mac to fall back to Mac and Westmin).... so if Eureka and Webster both win out, they do have a difference... Webster lost to Eureka, Spalding and Westmin;;; Eureka lost to Webster Spalding and MacMurray....   so the Mac-Westmin finish could establish the tie breaker if Eureka and Webster both win out..  if Westmin is better, Eureka would host, if Mac is better, Webster would host  (however I now realize that in order for Webster and Eureka to win out, Mac would suffer two losses, Westmin only 1, therefore Eureka would host)...   Follow that?????   and that is only one scenario!!!!!

I have also recognized, that Mac plays Webster at Mac in the afternoon, and Eureka plays Westmin at Fulton in the evening (I wonder why?)   Now, I thought I would simply go over to fulton, given the ladies game between Eureka and Westmin establishes a conference champ   ..... BUT....

How long does it take to get from Mac to Fulton... Google tells me just under 3 hours!!!   Webster Mac,
3:00-5:00,  2 hr 45 minute drive cross country to Fulton, in time for Westmin Eureka at 8:00..... WHAT a GREAT DAY!!!!!!!   I unfortunately will miss what should be a great ladies game...

Another incidental.... KJ Hilliard has worked his way into my All Conference team based on outstanding games vs Eureka and Webster... maybe even up to 2nd team... great recovery from his eye injury....

Wow, Hope, you're dedicated!

Great night for the Blue Jays. They pull out an OT win on the road, and get help from Webster by beating Greenville. They now control their own destiny to get into the conf tournament.

MacHighlander, were you at the game last night? Would love to hear some details, as it had to be an exciting game.

Any other Westmin posters out there? Starting to understand how lonely Hopefan must feel on the boards here. From past reading I remember a couple people who have posted about Westmin... AC Slater? Are you out there? Into the Blue? Would love to see you guys at the game on Saturday and talk some Blue Jay hoops!

Former Devil 40

Long time reader 2nd time poster (I think). I've been out of the central Illinois area for sometime so it has been hard for me to see enough SLIAC games to post about. I am moving to the area next week just in time for the tournament to be held in Eureka   ;)

I do like what I have seen from this years Eureka team in the few times I've seen them play  They have good balance both inside and out. 2 PoY candidates in Mark Lessen and Dustin Fritsch. Sometimes I think they forget about their inside game at times and rely too heavily on jump shots. Kindred has really played well this year especially getting all of his teammate involved (league leader in assists). I would like to see him look for his own shot more often at times.

My one concern about this team is lack of depth (especially inside). If Lessen and Fritsh get in foul trouble it could cause problems for Eureka.

One of the most intriguing things to me is Eurekas current roster. They only graduate one player this year. With the players the Red Devils bring back next year they will have to be considered the favorite to win conf.

Looks like it will be an exciting finish to the season and I can't wait to see how the final week plays out.

Former Devil...  While Eureka is in that situation, so is Webster (no seniors + the expected return of Willie Trimble), as well as Spalding (no seniors and the expected return of 2010/11 MOP Dewhon McAfee and Cody Cutsinger)... Westmin loses only one starter + 6th man... Mac only loses one starter (though key - Clint Lee)... only Greenville among the contenders of this year gets hit hard by graduation....

The league will be VERY good next year.... ;) ;)   will be interesting to see next fall who is consdered the favorite, given the special guys coming back after missing 2011-2012.... it will be an offseason of anticipation....

MoBball - I am here and just reading the posts. There is one thing I will say, though. I sure hope the tourny is hosted by Webster because if I recall correctly, the Eureka gym floor is pretty bad (I am talking about the new floor)   :'(

Former Devil 40

Thanks for that note hope. I was unaware that everyone else in the league would be returning that amount of players as well (McAfee's return will definitely help Spalding).

AC- are you referring to the first floor that was put down in Eureka 4 years ago or the new one this year?  The first one that was put down was very slick.  this new one seems to have solved that problem for the most part.

Trust me I used to love playing on he road for that reason.  When I played on this new floor in the alumni game it seemed much better.

ac slater

I am talking about the floor that was just put in. I was told it had large gaps between some pieces and has no give to it. Also, I don't know how true this is, but overheard that the students put it in?

Either way, I still think it has to be better than the older floor!

hopefan

Don't know about the floor, but I loved the building the one time I was there (at Eureka)... like Westmin in some ways, loaded with history... just seemed special.....
