The rule was changed in the last few years. In order to receive Newcomer of the Year now you must be a "First-year collegiate player". Knocks out a lot of players who are new to the sliac but are transfers.

Thanks for the clarification.

Wow Bunch hammered Fontbonne again last night!

I can't remember the last time Webster lost to Fontbonne???? Any idea how many recruiting classes have gone through FU with a goose egg against the Gorloks??

That got my curiosity up... last time was Feb 18, 2006... Font beat Webster 67-65 in OT  Fogarty, Storandt, McCoy were freshmen and all 3 were regulars along with a 4th Frosh Ryan Kirkpatrick who left after 1 year........surprisingly, that group did not beat Webster again...  right now Webster has a 12 game win streak against the Griffs.....
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

March 1, 2007 Fontbonne 67 Webster 62 SLIAC Conference Tournament WU #1 seed FU #4
FU went on to beat EC in OT for first of 3 straight Tournament Titles.

Hopefan - You blcked that year out because Pat McCoy was Tourney MVP. :) That game include the Best Individual Defensive Performances I ever saw. Chad Fournie denied WU's Scott Spinner from touching the ball. The next nite, against EC with Tarpley and the bunch, after being down at half Trevor White went off! His catch and shoot 28 footer to ice the game in OT was incredible.

You can't take away memories. That was a special bunch. Fogerty was the best scorer and rebounder in recent years. Storandt and Fournie never got the conference recognition they deserved. Worst loss in my memory was the game against Mary Hardin - Baylor in Miss. Storandt had a huge nite against there 6'10 kid. Up 1 with 8 seconds and they hit a 25 footer and then McCoy gets an open look from 3 that went down and came back out. And we would of matched up well with Millsaps the next nite. But, that is basketball.

Thanks for reminding me Hope. ;D ;D

predictions for tonight... tough calls... but thoughts

I think Westmin played their best game (considering the absence of Joe Prophet) in beating Eureka last Saturday.. tough to do it again..

Webster seems back on track, tough to beat at home...

Mac.. PLEASE go to Whitlock, Slagle...  use that size!!

Hoping for a big, loud, crowd!!!!!  But tough to imagine any of the three visiting schools will have many students able to travel on a Thursday night.....   Still would be fun if the Mac guys came down.....

I really believe that EC is the most talented team in this tourney.  That said, both Mac and Webster give us some matchup problems.  I predict:

EC 73
West 63

Web 68
Mac 59

EC 81
Web 76

Former Devil 40

Live stats aren't working  >:( can anyone at the game provide updates?  D3hoops still show that the game hasn't started... Is that correct?

WU FAN

Westminster knocks off Eureka 74-60 in the opening game of the tournament.  While Eureka put up a valiant effort at the end they were abysmal shooting on the game....especially in the 1st half when they were 7-32 (21.9%) from the field and 1-17 (5.9%) from behind the arc.  Also of note is Mark Lessen who scored only 3 points compared to his 17.9ppg.....Westminster did a very nice job of controlling him throughout the contest.

WU FAN

Webster leads Mac 37-26 at half after being down early.
