Just trying to defend the omission of Joe James from All conference, and my previous support of McBride

I tend to be a bit of a numbers nurd ;D ;D ;D

McBride not All Conference is a crime. He was the heart and sole for a team tied for 4th. Stats, leaderhip and a kid that gave a 100% every time he was on the floor. Blackburns Lott making it ahead of him is a joke. This is what you get when they vote by email. It was a lot different when they voted in a coaches meeting. Where coaches have to vote face to face.

An end of season observation about Webster. Only one starter returned from last year -- Huskey. Gone were Trimble, Restoff, Jones, Meeh, and Moore. But Webster got great contributions from three guys who were in last year's supporting cast -- Bradfisch, Edwards, and Whittingham -- throw in three new guys -- Robinson, Sooter, and Smith -- and I think it's remarkable what the team achieved in conference. These quotes from Webster's pre-season "Season Outlook" speak a lot to that: The 2011-2012 Webster University Men's basketball team has a VERY different look this season. This year's addition of the Gorloks has no seniors, a first for Coach Chris Bunch in his ten years of coaching.   Five seniors were lost to graduation and five of the top seven scorers for 2010-11 are gone. "This year's team definitely has a different feel," Coach Bunch said. "Last year we were trying to fit three new players with seven returners...but this year we are trying to fit seven newcomers around three or four returners!"

Yes, Thursday night's game was disappointing for the players and coaches, but given where things started with the first practice in October, I think to end up regular season conference champs is a terrific accomplishment.

As for next year, I think Webster and Eureka are the only teams that lose absolutely no one to graduation. Who knows what other attrition might occur on all teams, and what new faces will arrive. But going into this season I don't think anyone expected Webster to contend for the conference championship. Next year could bring a new set of surprises to the conference race. Stay tuned. The eight month count down has started.

Cowardly, Dennis? Come on, you were the guy who twice last year got mad and swore off this board and within a week we had a "new" poster each time within days posting your same old spin. Those were not hard to figure.

On a serious note, I enjoyed what you posted last year from the book you were writing. I am sure many of us on here would like to read more.

I agree with Dennis (do I have a fever?) that the all-conference vote should be done face to face. I haven't seen enough this year of have an opinion on who made it and who didn't, but as a rule of thumb these votes are very political and when you have to look the other coaches in the eye, I think, it helps keep everything on the up and up. On the other hand, the conference has become so spread out and with $4 a gallon gas........

Keep your eye on the buzzer beaters here on D3 hoops... I'm sure either Westmin or Webster will get it to D3hoops... Westmin had the ball out of bounds at half court with 1.9 seconds, no time outs, yet got the ball to Joe James on the sideline.. I think a dribble and fade away from 30-35 feet.. it was truly incredible......

The method of voting for All Conference was changed seven or eight years ago because it didn't seem fair that the players of the coaches who were the best public speakers, or the most passionate about their players, should have an advantage over the others. This way All Conference can be chosen in a calm, dispassionate manner in the quiet of each coaches' office. Very few, if any, conferences on all three levels select their All Conference teams in any way but email. It also gives the conference a chance to present the players with their awards in front of a crowd at the respective championship tournaments.

Congrats to the two Westminster teams. The Women were clearly the best and the Men were the best, by a very narrow margin, at the end of the season.

See my comments about voting on All Conference in another room. This should have been in the SLIAC room but was not done properly by me.

OOPS!

This should have gone on the SLIAC site.

Hey Coach. Hope all is well in Paradise. As gentleman we will agree to disagree on the all conference voting. I just want to tell you the Fraternity of Coaches here in the area has lost two great men this year, too. We're depending on having you around for a long time. Most folks don't don't know that Coach Bartow cut his teeth at Old St. Charles High. SCH and Wellston played some great games. Coach Spoon was one of a kind. I haven't seen Coach Stewart in a while, hope he's doing well. Coach Harry seems to be doing well. You and Dad had a few great games.

So, because tomorrow is not guaranteed, I want to publicly thank you. I speak for many who want to thank you for what you gave us as a Coach and Commish. You set the bar high, God Bless.

Ok, AARed. Thanks for asking about my writing. My book has turned into a series off short stories. Have had one offer from an online magazine type site, to a run a mothly short. But, just starting that step. I've tried getting everything down while I still can. 52 years of basketball gives a lot of good stories. I have enough now for a two year run, PLUS. Thanks again for asking.

Hoping for Westmin at Wash U....

let's have Transy and a CCIW school.. how about Wheaton.... in the other game... would be something to look forward to... if that's too good, maybe Rose Hulman instead of Transy?

but I have not followed along nearly as closely as the guys in the CCIW room or the tourney rooms...

just a wild hope so we can see a few more D3 games in St Louis
