A check of sites shows no sked yet up for Westmin, Prin, or Eureka....

Eureka's schedule will go online as part of the department's new website launch next week (9/6).

Thanks  ECRD83... looking forward to seeing it...  Eureka has to be excited about the upcoming season!

but Eureka has posted its football roster and indeed Jordan Kindred is on it....so I ask the question, especially to CCIW or MIAA readers, does anyone remember a football - basketball 2 sport athlete, especially one who is capable of being an all conference level basketball player... yes, I know soccer - basketball athletes exist, and obviously basketball athletes couple with spring sports such as baseball, golf, or tennis....  but this situation seems so unusual, when considering Kindred hasn't played football at Eureka his first 3 years, and is coming off a serious knee injury that occurred two years ago.....Seems like he's playing with fire, plus taking 3 months away from hoops right before his senior year...  lots of head-scratching on this one....  would love to know the motivation behind the decision....

Never mind Chuck and his football/basketball examples from the Pleistocene epoch. ;) The CCIW has a very good example of a football/basketball star from as recent as a decade ago: Rob Garnes of Carthage, one of only six players in the 66-year history of the league who was an All-CCIW first-teamer all four years in basketball. He was one of the mainstays of the Red Men team that made it to the Final Four in '02. Garnes, who was a small forward on the basketball court, was also an All-CCIW first-teamer as a wide receiver on the Red Men football team in '00.

If you're going to play both football and basketball, your odds of being healthy for the latter increase dramatically if you're a wide receiver or a cornerback, because those are the two positions on the football field (aside from kickers and punters) that see the least amount of contact.

Otterbein's Jeff Gibbs was an All-American in both football and men's basketball in the 2001-02 season.

Yep, another excellent example.

I'd mention Wabash's Pete Metzelaars as well, but I don't want to be accused of pulling a Ypsi by having Sherman dial the WABAC Machine to a high setting. ;)

Don't forget Marc Randle...was 3rd team all-conference in basketball in the SLIAC and 2nd team football in the UMAC in 09-10.

As for Jordan, he scored two TDs in the scrimmage over the weekend.  If he can stay healthy, he could really contribute to football.

One difference from Gibbs, Randle, and Metzelaars  (Garnes too?)... those guys were big men in the middle... not known for running the court, outside quickness and shooting... Kindred as a slashing shooting guard is that kind of player as compared to those guys.....   and how could hopefan ever forget about Pete Metzelaars, who knocked Hope (led by Matt Neill) out of the tourney back in the earl 80's.....

Not true. Garnes was a 6'4 wing, not an interior player. He was a slasher who could, and did, beat shorter players up and down the floor on a regular basis. In other words, his skill set was exactly what you'd expect for a basketball player who was also a football WR.

Gibbs was about 6-2. Ask anyone at the 2002 Final Four if Gibbs ran the floor. Yes, he played center for Otterbein but that was because he could jump out of the building.

Wish I had seen Gibbs... and I remember hearing about Garnes and the good Carthage teams thru the CCIW pages.... good feedback guys....  I'm still not real optimistic about the Jordan Kindred situation....

EC looks to have not added any post depth, but should have Tony Dunlap (guard who played at Lanark Eastland) possibly getting some minutes.

I will never forget the play I think in the second half when Gibbs hauled in a rebound... hit the outlet pass... the guard took a few dribbles down court, crossed the mid-court line, and fired a long cross-court pass to a sprinting Gibbs for the easy basket in transition... Gibbs pretty much out-sprinted the other eight players down the court and had to go 90 feet to do it... he was impressive, to say it lightly, at that Final Four... hey may have been the easiest pick for MOP in my 12 years in Salem.

Unrelated, but on my mind, let's hope Yadi Molina is ok after the hit he took at home plate last night.....

I am not sure if this is true, but just some interesting info.

I was told that Joe James grew 3 inches this summer.

My source was really trying to convince me, but I simply just can't take this information as valid.

Anybody have info on this?

Prin's schedule is now up on their site..

non conference games are
vs Cornell College   (3-22)
vs Stl Pharmacy  (10-14)
at Millikin  (1-24)
at McKendree  (18-12)
at Rockford  (12-14)
at Loras  (7-18)
vs Illinois College  6-17)
at Stl Pharmacy  (10-14)_
at Lincoln Christian  (9-17)

when you are 0 fer last season, you gotta schedule weak to try to find some wins....  I rate this schedule ahead of Greenville's only because they play 5 D3 teams compared to 3 for Greenville.

Still looking for Westmin's schedule.... Eureka's to appear next week.
