I heard at Webster's scrimmage that the SLIAC coaches have already had their preseason meeting... one of the things they do is have a preseason Coach's Poll... I'd imagine the results will be posted on the SLIAC.org page in the near future.

Probably waiting until the soccer and volleyball tournaments are competed this weekend and the winner of those find out who they are facing in the NCAA tourneys.

SLIAC fans... everytime I come on, I see something new has been posted in the midwest region, and then I click it, and almost always, yep, it's in our Big Brother's site in the CCIW!!!!   Is there no interest in the upcoming Season except at Eureka?  No excitement to write about/  no conjecture?  Haven't I gotten anyone angry enough to tell me i don't know what I'm talking about?  No anonymous parents to praise their kids or blast the coaches (or me)... no hints from an anonymoust assistant or manager...

Or does this site just serve as reporting... if so, where's my first paycheck?

I can't even get an email from coaches giving me a hint as to how things are looking....

I will remind you all.. I'll be gone nov 10-17.. missing exhibition games and opening Friday night...

FYI

Eureka has it's alumni game on 10/10 which I will be partaking in (lets just say I haven't picked up a ball in 3months so i will be hitting the gym for the next week to dust the rust off).  This will give me a chance to see how the returning players have developed and what new faces will make contriubutions this year.

Any word on scrimmages/alumni games on other campuses?

GC already had their alumni schrimmage earlier this month.  I was unable to attend so nothing new to report.

Can you report anything to us about these new recruits?  GC is one of the biggest question marks in the SLIAC this year in my view.

Rollins, Jones, Mercer, Potts, Anderson, and Hamler all look really good on paper.  Any info??

I honestly have no idea.  Havent talked to Coach Barber in a while and have not seen them.  Schedule wise you guys should have an idea before I do as I probably won't see them until Jan @ WIU and @Mac

Sorry for just getting back on here, haven't had much info until now. Mac had their annual scrimmage last night and from what I heard, Burton did not play because of a severe ankle sprain. I'm assuming he wont be able to play on Tuesday against SIUE. Hopefully Mac can compete more than Greenville did when they went there a couple days ago. They can't go there and chuck up 3's and expect it to be close. Gotta get the ball inside to get better looks than what Greenville got. I'm excited that the season is finally approaching!

EC scrimmaged a team with Josh Wagner and DeAaron Williams last night, winning 102-93, but were up as much as 30.  Our starting core looked very, very good.  Lessen had a couple of dunks and everybody looked sharp.  Jordan Kindred had quite the day, caught 11 passes for 151 yds. in the football game, then suited up last night and came in the last two minutes, looked like he hasn't missed a beat.

I didn't even know Greenville had a game with SIUE.. it wasn't on the Greenville schedule on their site...Well, looking at the box score, there are a couple questions... Simon Martin didn't play.. I expected him to be a starter, the only returning size Greenville had  injury I assume....

I did some comparisons between the recruit writeups and the roster on Greenville's site... I hadn't realized that the number of recruits continued to grow over the summer... Greenville brought in an incredible 7 JC transfers.. most from the west coast..6 of them are on the varsity roster... all the HS senior recruits are on the JV roster which surprised me as some of them read pretty well, and there was some size badly needed by the varsity... either these kids weren't ready, or Coach Barber wants then playing together for awhile as a unit...  Transfers Anthony Metzler and Dan Anderson were the 2 double figure scorers for Greenville in the 84-50 loss....  From the minutes played in the exhibition game, the transfers will definitely be key for Greenville this year... I guess it almost had to happen with the loss of 8 seniors and only 3 returning players who saw real time last year....

Nice gesture to give Jordan Kindred a couple minutes...  hope you are right and he flows in quickly....

Thanks Yjak...

yep, that's what Greenville is all about... nothing fake, nothing for show...  it's real... Anyone who watched Jonas or Phonso or KJ or Ben Giertz or Jose Garcia play would get it....  A lot to live up to for those transfers... I hope they'll take advantage.....

Mac falls to SIUE 77-59... Dylan Burton doesn't play due to ankle injury..  all in all, the box score shows pretty well for the highlanders...  only down 3 at half. 4 players in double figues (Bishop, Slagle, Whitlock, Guthrie off the bench) and newcomer Spencer Pratt also has a solidr effort.... too many turnovers, and Mac shot only 4 free throws, which coud be their achilles heel if there's too much reliance on perimeter shooting... Burton's return should help the inside game. Of course going inside will be less challenging against SLIAC competition than against SIUE....   As I said, the box reads well, hope it was an upbeat performance for coach Creal and team.....

It's possible Greenville is the sleeper team of the year in the SLIAC.  Not sure if we can draw any conclusions by comparing the Gville and Mac scores vs. SIUE. But, does look like Mac did a decent job of competing and kept the final margin under 20.

EC gets SIUE on 12/17, just four days after playing another D-1 in Texas.  Two D-1 scalps in four days would be very, very nice!
