EC gets SIUE on 12/17, just four days after playing another D-1 in Texas.  Two D-1 scalps in four days would be very, very nice!

Not sure how familiar you are with historical D3 vs d1... here is a sampling...
2011-2012     0-45
we did not track 2010-2011 season, but there was a D3 win Colorado College over Air Force
2009-2010      0-58
2008-2009      1-35
2007-2008      1-32

EC will be good this season, but the difference between the EC level and low level D1 is still huge.... (pre season anticipation aside, like it or not, we can only view EC as one of the better teams in a lower level D3 conference).......  Still, we can keep our fingers crossed... the EC-SIUE game is one I'm definitely looking forward to seeing.
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Don't be a buzzkill!  I know it's a huge jump, but hope springs eternal. SIUE looks pretty good on paper, am wondering, though, why Donivine Stewart didn't see any minutes in the first two games.  Could be injury.  Would expect him to be a standout on that roster.

I followed the live stats of the exhibition game between Webster and D2 Central Missouri. UCM won 67-62. Not a very good way to know exactly what factors most contributed to the outcome. If I remember correctly Webster made three consecutive threes late in the first half and took a 41-31 halftime lead. UCM then dominated the start of the second half and took a lead it never relinquished. But it appears that Webster hung tough from there. Roman Robinson did not play. Curious to know why. If it's an injury I hope it isn't serious.

Given that UCM was 19-8 last year and has a 17 man roster, none of whom are under 6' 0", 8 of whom are 6' 5" to 6' 8", and 14 of whom are juniors or seniors, I'd have to say this was a pretty good game for Webster.

Hey... found a computer in the lobby... incredible score for Webster at CMU...  down 5 WITHOUT Roman....What is most impressive is Jarrod Huskey with 15 points.. good to see Cody B also played..... Zehner solid again...... Sooter....   All in all very promising

I knew you wouldn't be able to stay away from the boards while you were on your anniversary vacation. ;D When I read that "see you all next Saturday" quote, I said to myself, he'll be back on here tomorrow!! He's addicted. ;)

I'm watching your alma mater play Swarthmore in the NCAA soccer tournament as I type this. They defeated Christopher Newport 2-0 Saturday evening to advance to today's 2nd round. Unfortunately, they are losing 2-0, late in the 1st half.

Now you've got me hankering for Lobster. I'll have to go buy some nice tails on my way home from the office. ;D

Sad day for the Liberty League in soocer this afternoon. RPI lost to Swarthmore 3-0. St. Lawrence lost to Williams 2-1 in OT and Vassar got knocked off by Brandeis 1-0. Not often that 3 teams from one conference make the field and all three won their first round games. Was hoping for some better results in the 2nd round though.

Well I turned out to be the only casualty on Saturday at Eureka's Alumni Game.  Landed on someones foot with about 45sec left to go in the game.  If i start my rehab now I might be ready by next years game.  :P

All in all it was a fun event to be at.  The alumni team consisted of 10players most of them from the last 4 years but we did have one show up from the class of 73' (that'd make him right around 60yrs old for those keeping score at home)

Eureka's "Varsity" team won the game by about 16pts.  Not a lot has changed from last year IMO.  The same guys that contributed last year will continue to dominate the minutes again this year.  I was impressed with how Kindred doesn't seem to have missed a beat without playing in the fall becuase of football. I think he made the first 4 shots he took.  Misuraca started the game in his place.

A 3rd 10min period was played for Eureka's reserves.  This would be the point where my injury occured....lets just say it was unlucky  ;D

As far as newcomers go I'd look for Lincoln to make the biggest impact.  He's pretty a pretty athletic swing man with decent size at 6'3.  Dunlap also played ok but I wouldn't expect him to get many minutes behind Kindred, Nailor, and Misuraca.  Lessen didn't get a lot of touches around the hoop which suprises me becuase he has added about 10lbs of muscle and has the potential to really dominate around the hoop.

Eureka tips off on Thursday at former SLIAC member Lincoln Christian.  This game is ususally one sided but you can never take an opponent too lightly.  LCU will already have 2 games under their belt going into this contest.

Former Devil 40

2012-13 SLIAC Men's Basketball
Pre-Season Coaches' Poll
1 - Spalding (4)
2 - Eureka (1)
3 - Westminster (2)
4 - MacMurray
5 - Webster
6 - Greenville (1)
7 - Fontbonne
8 - Blackburn
9 - Principia

Strange that there were only 8 first place votes given out...doesn't every team get to vote?  No suprise that Spalding and Eureka are at the top.  I beleive this is the highest preseason rating for the red devils since joining the SLIAC.

A 67-62 loss to a Division II basketball powerhouse in UCM is quite the result.  Washington University visits Webster on December 5th.  I already had it on the calendar, but now I have to go.  Anyone coming to campus next week when the Bears host Fontbonne in the home opener?
