I looked up Kody Ettinger on the internet and Denny is right.. 29 points per game including several in the 40's, for a 24-3 team!!!  only 5'9", 5'10" though, but looks solid in pictures... I'm surprised he didn't make All State with those numbers, but he was not on the Coach's All State list I found....

I have to be a little skeptical given recent history of kids from that area 'rural' schools west of St Louis suburbs... Fontbonne had a banner recruiting year 3 years ago, getting 7 or 8 kids from that area... only one remains on the roster at this time, and a couple of those recruits didn't even make it through Freshman Year for the Griffs.... here's hoping that Kody Ettinger turns that trend around..

A lot happened that year. But, your play of the "that area rural west" Card. I raise you a Salem, Winfield and a Hermann. :)  ;D

GC P01- Thanks for putting up the link. It appears Coach has add some good size and some good Kids. I'd love to see Coach get his shot in the SLIAC Tourney. He has over come so many obstacles in recent years. Admire the Man. And, love the GC family. I hope this is his time.

Two interesting EC tidbits:

-EC women's coach, Taren Martin, took the top assistant job at Univ of Alabama-Birmingham.  Big move up to D-1!

-Elmhurst men's B-ball coach, Mark Scherer, has taken a non-basketball position in EC's Development Office:

I agre Denny, appreciate the comments.  Seems the Barber family obstacles continue as one of thier daughters, Mary Ashley is at Barnes hospital again, after already suffering a stroke she now has had renal failure and most likely will need a kidney transplant.  All Prayers for the family are appreciated.  Updates are being posted on a special Facebook page if anyone would like to send them messages and for updates. https://www.facebook.com/#!/PrayingforMaryAshleyBarberFamily

GC P01 - Thanks for posting the link. I knew she was on a transplant list after her first stay last year. I have alerted the Fontbonne Family and prayers are heading her way. This is not the place to go into details, but you know what the GC Family means to the McKinney's. Just another chance to prove Miracles do happen. Thanks again!!!

From Titan Q over on the CCIW page....

"Ron Rose and the Titans have landed Alec Bausch, a 6-6/205 PF from De Smet H.S. in St. Louis.  Bausch averaged 12.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game as a senior.  He helped his team to the Missouri Class 5 state championship game in Columbia.

Bausch played the post alongside 6-8 all-state F Nolan Berry, who is heading to D1 Butler on scholarship...so he definitely was not the featured post on the De Smet team.  I watched some video of that state championship game recently and came away feeling like Bausch is a really solid CCIW recruit.  He's a very active 4-man who does a lot of things well - can score with his back to the basket, can knock down a jumpshot, is a really good passer, and rebounds well.  He's like Kevin Reed in a lot of ways, but more of a 4 than Reed - should be a solid player for the Titans down the road.

Bausch was also a standout WR on the De Smet football team.  I believe he's thinking about giving football a go at IWU this coming season, but he does consider basketball is primary sport at this point.  We'll see how that two sport thing goes."

OUCH...... if the SLIAC is to move up in the world of D3hoops, this is exactly the kind of kid WE have to get....  The 2nd or 3rd star on outstanding LARGE school programs....  Big heroes from small schools will help WITHIN the SLIAC, but it simply won't cut it when we play higher level competition.

Westminster was one of the D3 schools on Bausch very hard.

IWU head coach Ron Rose has definitely made recruiting the STL area a priority.  In addition to the recruit from De Smet, on the current roster he has...

Nick Anderson, Jr (Edwardsville H.S.)
Mike Mayberger, Jr (St. Louis U High)
Pat Sodemann, So (Parkway West H.S.)
Bryce Dolan, Fr (Borgia H.S.)
Joel Pennington, Fr (Lafayette H.S.)

There are a lot of good players in the STL area.  I don't think Rose's predecessors (Dennie Bridges, Scott Trost) hit STL very hard at all.

Was aware of that having seen Coach Mitchell at Wash U NCAA's.... made your announcement all the more disappointing....

Yes.. a scarey trend as these are kids that Each of the 3 Missouri SLIAC school probably had on their wish list... still, I'm happier they're going the CCIW route than if they went to the NAIA or D2 schools...

I think the Shirk Center is a huge selling point.  On the other hand, the $38k tuition price tag, maybe not so much.  SLIAC schools need to find a way to get these players.
