Proud 2 announce the commitment officially of 6'6 Forward @long_brent of Jacksonville Routt HS continuing our great local tradition! #macfam

Brent Long is a 6-6/185 F who averaged 13.7 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists as a senior at Jacksonville Routt H.S (IHSA Class 1A).

Interesting stuff Hopefan. I wouldn't look for a return of Martin. I don't think he even made it thru the first semester. I have similar thoughts on the PG position.

hopefan

Thanks TQ for that tidbit... nice size, hope he can help Mac on the boards..

per Denny's note, I had no idea Martin was out at Fontbonne.. just assumed we hadn't heard about him due to the injury... wonder where he will end up?  Well Coach Shafer told me not to worry about size, more was coming in.....

Listed at 6' 5" on berecuited.com.  Also looks like a pretty solid pitcher, I'm assuming a two sport player at Mac:

Greenvillle also adds two players from California:

Thanks for that info ecreddevil. The 6'8 and 6'7 freshmen out of Kentucky and Indiana, should give Coach Barber some much needed size.

GC Panther 01

GC has added a third Cali recruit.  6' 5" Juco PF .  Lots of size being added, more than I have seen there since the 97-98 campaign before Coach Barber had started.

Fontbonne was in my top 4 next year if everyone was coming back...  now, they're a little short on depth... but Coach Shafer, the youngest coach in the league (I think), has a brightness and enthusiasm that will bring kids to the program... if he gets any help from this year's recruits, the Griffs should hit the top 4 in 13-14.

Hopefan- Everyone knows I bleed purple and gold. Even with no ties to FU I still would like them to be on top every year. That being said, it's my opinion that FU will have to bring in some new scoring options. In looking at last years stats the production from the PG and SG left a lot to be desired. Gentry took the most fg attempts (226) on the team, but shot a dismal 33%. Dorhaur had 184 attempts with only 34.7%. The two combined to attempt 205 3 pointers and neither broke 30%. You are going to have a hard time winning shooting those kind of percentages.

I agree that Welch had a fine freshmen campaign. But, if you start 5'9, 5'10 and 6'1 it makes it very hard to match up on defense. Greenlee proved to be a very good freshmen for the Griffs. But, see him more as 4 then a post. The one game I saw live vs. WU, I was pleased with what I saw out of Stephens (although he only got 30 seconds in the 2nd Half) and Woods looked like a kid who score around the basket. Tough losses. Hard to believe Gentry made an All Conference team with those stats.

To reach the top 4 FU will need other scoring options to come in or make it a priority to get the ball into Greenlee or the new bigs will have to produce from the get go. Let's hope Gentry and Dorhaur are getting a couple hundred jumpers up all summer long.

I agree that Dorhaur is the natural fit at PG and could of got a lot of experience there last year.

IMHO.

Anybody catch the Summer League action tonite at Webster?

Didn't know the summer league had started... is it straight Wednesdays at Webster?  Although I will admit I shouldn't let myself see that stuff... last year when I went, it led me to a bunch of misconceptions... I forget that the organized game we see October-March is far different than the play for fun and show summer action.... still, it's HOOPS...

+1 for bringing it to our attention  ;)

Hopefan the summer league will revolve between schools. I'm sure if contacted Coach Schafer could get you a schedule. You could've kept the + K, I was trying to engage a conversation on your FU write up. But, no response? I'm adding a +k in return.

The summer league at Webster has been going on for a couple weeks, they are about 3 games in.  Teams this year are Webster, Fontbonne, Westminster, Lindenwood-Belleville, STLCC, and College All-Stars (appears to just be a group of players from random schools?)

I've seen the 3 SLIAC schools a couple times now, can't really make a fair judgment on any of them.  Most everyone at the league is bringing a jv team with a few varsity guys sprinkled in.  If I had to pick one out of the 3 I was most impressed with based on who has been at the league I would choose Fontbonne.  Couple really good shooters and some raw but athletic bigs.

There is an off week then games pick back up on June 10
6:30 Lindenwood-Belleville vs College All Stars
7:30 Fontbonne vs Westminster
8:30 STLCC vs Webster

Brandon Weed, 6' 9" 275 lb Center out of Dee-Mack HS has committed to EC.  Obviously huge two-sport kid from a small school program that didn't have a great basketball year.  I wouldn't expect much but could be an intriguing project ala DT Thornton.

On 6-6 MacMurray recruit Brent Long...

I like the comment from Coach Creal that Brent Long will be groomed to move into Brady Slagle's spot... that's a good player to emulate....
