New look Red Devils this year.  Not a lot of info, but looks like Marious and Marquis Lobdell are on board, both coming from Aurora U.

Marious: 6' 0" guard, AU's leading scorer last year at 16 ppg
Marquis: 6' 3" forward, bench player averaging 6.6 ppg and 4 rpg

I did some digging, originally just curious to see if Marious and Marquis were twins, brothers, cousins, whatever... can't answer that one, as both are in the same class (they were listed as juniors at Aurora), but they attended different high schools in Peoria.. Marious listed as Manuel HS, Marquis listed as Limestone HS.

However, something else came to my attention... I looked up the All conference team, and Marious Lobdell, the leading scorer on the conference regular season and conference tournament championship team, did not make All Conference.. not 1st team, not 2nd team, not even Honorable Mention.  VERY strange... so I checked some Box Scores... Both Marious and Marquis played throughout the regular season, up through the final regular season game vs Dominican, played Feb.12.  Aurora won that game, but I do note that Marious fired up 15 shots in 19 minutes... he didn't sit for foul trouble... several other players played 23-30 minutes in that game for Aurora.   What followed is this:

Neither Marious nor Marquis played in any of three conference tourney wins, nor in the NCAA tourney loss to St. Thomas.

WHY?  Injury (to both?) or something else?          Surprisingly, nothing was mentioned about their absence for those games in the Nathcon room, and the couple articles I read about the games didn't mention the Lobdells.

Wonder if a Nathcon fan can shed some light........

Prior to Aurora's first-round tournament match-up with St. Thomas-MN, someone posted on the MIAC board that word came down that the Lobdells had been suspended from the Spartan squad (check out a post on a "1200 series" page on the MIAC board).

Thanks WLC... Indeed the post on the MIAC page mentions that three players including the 2 Lobdells were "dismissed" from the team prior to the conference tourney.... must have been some pretty heavy duty 'stuff' for the coach or school to make that decision after being 14-2 in conference heading into the tourney.... the tough part of coaching....

Still, I have great respect for Eureka College and have to think they did their homework and look at this as an opportunity, not a problem.

Hopefan - you give EC credit for looking at this situation as an opportunity. But, you ripped on Coach Barber and GC for giving their players an Oppurtunity? Can't understand it.

You knew Coach Wilde would reload. EC Red devil any news on Fristish little brother transferring in to EC a year early?

I think Eureka will be school #4 for Marious (Illinois Central College, Judson, Aurora), and I think #3 for Marquis (Elgin CC, Aurora).

I haven't seen all the SLIAC schedules for next year yet.... Westmin, Prin, Mac and Blackburn schedules are not posted yet... but it's hard to imagine any SLIAC school will play a non conference schedule that matches Spalding's.. in both difficulty or attractiveness from a D3 standpoint...  it will surely prepare Spalding to make a run at defending their SLIAC Conference and tourney championships, despite losing sevral All Conference players...

Their non conf schedule is:
Birmingham Southern Tourney....   Emory, Colorado College, Spalding,  Birmingham Southern
at Hanover
Wooster Classic...  Wooster, Spalding, Wheaton, Baldwin Wallace
Anderson
at Transylvania

With the motivation of two tourneys with very good fields, and 3 other solid D3 opponents, it doesn't get much better than that for a SLIAC non conf schedule   (I feel they could be competitive in the Birminham So tourney... the Wooster Classic will be VERY difficult to grab a win....)

That's definitely a challenging schedule for Spalding. Will be interested in their win-loss record against those teams. Not sure they can beat Emory, if they play them, but could have a shot against the other two in the Birmingham Southern tourney. That's as far as I'll go in making predictions about those non-con matchups -- predictions not being my strong suit.  :)

Of interest to some of us....  Matt Rogers, former Coach of Maryville U during several very successful seasons in the SLIAC in the early 2000's (some teams that I was totally caught up with), who then moved on to coaching the women at LaVerne (Cal) the last several years, has been replaced recently by Ms Julie Shaw.  Wondering if Coach Rogers was pushed out (this past season LaVerne was 14-11, 11-5), or if he had an opportunity to move to greener pastures?   If anyone has heard, please let me know.....

More possible new Red Devils:  Josh Fenoglia 6' 6"  transfer from Il. Valley CC.

Doug Shanklin 6' 5"

Both were very good small school players at Midland HS.

Joevegas

Fontbonne had a great recruiting year.  Coach Schafer has a  young talented team for the 2013-14.  He continues to have great recruiting ties in Las Vegas.

Joevegas

Fontbonne just got a 6'8" kid from bishop Gorman

Denny McKinney

Welcome Joevegas. Could you give us a short scouting report, for the 3 new Vegas players?

Denny McKinney

Found where 6'8 Grant Tucker teammate of Austin Guinn tweeted he will be attending Fontbonne. Two players from #15 Bishop Gorman HS, Las Vegas. Wow that's another big pick up.
