Neither Dustin nor Niko's numbers are gaudy, but they are contributing. 

Dustin has 11 catches for 110 yds. on the season. He did have a really nice (ironically since he's so tall) diving 37 yd. catch on an underthrown ball against Westminster to set up 1st and goal.  He also sets up in goal line formations as a fade route threat, although usually as a decoy.

Niko has been getting time at safety and has 13 tackles on the season, a good number considering we have one of the best linebacking corps in the history of EC football.

Ecreddevils - Did Dustin's younger brother join the EC squad this year? I think he was at same Juco as big brother. If you see Coach W tell him the McKinney family says Hello. He was great to my Pops needs on his last visit to Eureka. EC vs. FU in SLIAC Tourney on of the Best Games I can remember. It was a shame there had to be a team not get a W. Good Luck this Year.

Any time a Eureka - Fontbonne matchup comes up in conversation, the game I remember is eureka's win over Fontbonne 97-96 in 08-09....  That game was St louis's intro to two of my favorites from Eureka.. Jordan Kindred and Andy Leppard both exciting guards who could shoot...Fontbonne had probably it's best team of the 2000's, had a big half time lead, but Eureka pressed them in the 2nd half and got credited for 16 steals...  I remember incredible full court basketball and 3's reigning down on both ends of the court.. whoever scored last was the winner, and it was a tremendous road upset for Eureka.. Eureka was pretty young that year, finished out of the conference tourney, Fontbonne went on to win conference and the tourney....

Then there were the two conference games, that led up to the #4 - #2 match up I spoke of. Both EC wins on last second shots by EC. The last was at FU when with .02 left and FU up by one. Then the Richards to Tarpley full court pass for the win. Heartbreakers but good memories. Great Battles between two good teams. I think FU's best team was 07-08. Chad Fournie's senior year and the tough loss to MH-B down in Mississippi. IMHO

Unfortunately he did not come this year.  EC has some pieces this year but will clearly be a huge question mark.

What does everyone think of Whitlock as a pre-season All-American?? From averaging 14/5 to AA?  Not sure about that one.

I think FU's best team was 07-08. Chad Fournie's senior year

Good point.. Fournie was my favorite... a GREAT defensive player and totally unselfish.

I had some fun commenting on the Whitlock mention over in the CCIW room.. the AA Honorable Mention came from D3news...a site/publication that clearly hasn't seen kids play.. going only by stats... averaging what he did in the SLIAC is fine... for the SLIAC...  but it's not the competitive level that the CCIW, WIAC etc present....   There is only one source for reasonably acurate preseason (and postseason) AA reviews... and that is D3Hoops.com

I don't want to take anything away from Clayton Whitlock (in fact I hope this motivates him to have a spectacular year so he gets the same recognition at the end of the season), but DIII News is not the most reliable source to be selecting those kinds of pre-season teams. This website's pre-season predictions are likely to prove more accurate than those of DII News. But hopefully what DIII News has done will help give Whitlock some consideration by D3Hoops.com.

I agree with the AA debate. I do think at this level any recognition for these kids is Great.

He's a good player but the preseason polls and teams are basically meaningless accolades. I'm just wondering how they even came up with his name out of the crowd of national players; it isn't like he dominated the SLIAC last year.  Still any press, no matter how trivial, is good press, I suppose.

I've had some knowledge of DIII News preseason AA teams. They try to be very general and they look at returnees from every conference. They try to include someone from every conference. Politically Corect ? Yes. But as mentioned, if it gives a kid motivation or just recognition to some one who is a hard working kid. It's Ok by me. We all know who true AA's are through this site.
