Are the media time outs a DIII wide change? It may be the stupidest thing I've heard. Considering I don't know of a SLIAC school that has media.

Hand checking is a foul. Has been for at least 55 yrs, that I know of. The players will change how they play. Defense is played with the feet. If you alter a players offensive move by using your hands it's a foul. If you are not a good defensive player, you have to give up a step. I've noticed on TV games, their not letting the guards drop down on big men and use the "Hatchet" defensive move.

It will depend on officiating. Called correctly it will make for more offensive movement and more scoring. But, it's the way the game was designed years ago. I have no problem making the game more skill based and less mugging.

Hendrix leads FU 26-16 @ 10:00 in 1st half. Rich Dourhaur entered the game for FU @ 16:00 mark. He looks healthy.

FU's DeGeere gets 2 earned fouls in first 3 mins.

Not a DIII wide change. Agreed, one of the stupidest things.  Apparently this is being forced on schools by one person in a high ranking position (commish) to "make a name" for the conference. Well, if being seen as a joke is making a name, then he'll succeed there; and schools probably won't come play at our places.  No other DIII conference does this, they've got reasonable leadership.  How is it even permitted to have media timeouts with no media (probably not but someone doesn't seem to care about rules).

This is one that got away. Hendrix wins 88-80. FU got it to 2 pts with about 4:30 left. Never seemed to be able to control the tempo. FU kept fouling that whole last 2:30 ??? Greenlee had a pretty good scoring night. He was plagued late with leg cramps. Pretty tough game to watch.

No Media Time Outs at Wash U.

No Vegas big kids, Jackson shows one minute.. What's going on?
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Joevegas

What shafer did to Gorman kids tonight just destroyed his recruiting ability in Vegas.   Several Gorman people watched the game on Internet in Vegas.  I must say it was not good to embarrass those kids in front of their friends.   Not sure about Jackson   He started at SLU game.

What exactly did Schafer do that was so horrible?

Guinn was one of the walking wounded. I didn't get a good count but looked like six players in warm ups behind the bench. I was surprised not to see the Tucker kid. That size wanted to see what he had. I think DeGeere could be a good one. If he learns not to commit stupid fouls. At 6'8 he's as good a jump shooter as FU has. Beautiful step back 3 from top of the key. I liked the motor the Baakis kid brings. Quick defensively for size. Has 3 PT range. Cody Ettinger ended up with double digit points and can get after it defensively. Will have to learn to tone down tempo a tad. But, the kid knows how to score. Dourhaur would be my answer at point. Two straight PG'z dribbling to much and poor shooter. Same as last year. Don't know about Jackson. But, I like shat I saw when the kid was warming up. Must of just got lost on the bench.

But Mr. Vegas, I have know idea about Grant Tucker.

I would also mention JoeVegas. I'm not sure what Gormon is. But let's remember that they are freshmen and this was the first game of the season. Some freshmen take longer to work their way up. Look at playing times tomorrow. Then make decisions. I don't think Coach Schaffer set out to embarrass anyone. And, also don't think we know what goes into the decisions.

Joevegas

Guinn and tucker were suited and ready to play.  Gorman is a national basketball and football power located in Vegas.   In my opinion, u don't recruit kids from that school and sit them on bench.  But yes. Let's see what happens tomorrow.  Let's hope that fontbonne plays better tomorrow.  Not sure if is on Internet again

Denny McKinney

So based on the fact that they played on National Power, like Gormon in Las Vegas. You feel they should step in and play immediately. At NCAA DIII level. I'm not that familiar with the two young men. Or, what kind of players they are coming out of HS. I'm just saying I don't think the boys were guaranteed time immediately. FU has had to large back to back recruiting classes. A lot of players competing for time. Do think Quinn and Tucker could of changed the out come of the game? Or, is it just the fact people in Vegas watched this particular game and 2 freshmen don't get time?

Coach Schaffer has been spoken highly of from North Park chatters when he was hired. And, by Hopefan since. Seems to me he sounds like he would make decisions based on what gave him the best chance to win. IMO, only!

Good morning.. my surprise regarding Fontbonne was the change in personnel from the exhibition game vs SLU to the kids who got minutes last night.. I was curious whether injury, performance, etc was the cause....good to see Dorhauer back, I had heard knee problems which might have meant significant rehab time....

I won't take Joe Vegas to task, but Joe you're a long way from St Louis...no one can expect kids to step right in by 'arriving'....if they're good enough to play, they'll play... period

Overall a disappointing day in the SLIAC despite Greenville's win over Elmhurst, Mac's one point win over Rust and Webster's romp...

Principia loses to Knox by 10 but was never in it.. afraid my bubble is about to burst with them... still, Kenny Sydness goes for 42, Justin Ball shows his potential with 21 points and 5 blocks.... Damon Wilgus only gets 10 minutes?  Sydness is a heck of a player, hope he gets some deserved recognition as a senior...

Eureka takes Monmouth to OT, but loses 93-90.. the Lobdell's combine for 50 points as Wilde's mentorship begins to pay premiums...looks like EC may have lost it at the foul line, missing 17 free throws.. play by play shows a great game, close the whole way.. EC's Seth Wickert tied it with a 3 point shot at 9 seconds left in OT, but Monmouth came back with a hoop and FT to win it..

Westmin has a horrible shooting day, gets beat on the boards and loses a low scoring game to Millikin.

Blackburn shoots 26% in losing by 50 to River Falls...  Advice, don't be in a tourney with the big boys for 'the experience'... not sure much is gained....

newcomer Iowa Wesleyan falls to Cornell (Iowa, not NY) 95-51...

Spalding loses 2nd in Birmingham, downed by Emory 67-53... searching for some consistent scoring....

HOWEVER!!!!

Mac hangs on to beat Rust 72-71...  super game by Brady Slagle with 24 points, 16 rebounds... Coach Creal has changed something up and Slagle much more involved on the perimeter this year rather than being buried inside... Clayton  Whitlock has a disappointing 11 points, 5 boards against much smaller opponents...  Rust had the ball with a chance to win, but threw up a couple of panic shots... Rust is so much fun to watch... run run run... point guard Kwamere Gredic has to be one of the quickest kids in D3...and I love the Rust coach's ongoing banter with the officials, always with a big smile... Rust lost it at the line, 17-33, including 5  critical misses in last two minutes...

Great win for Greenville over Elmhurst... 4 starters in double figures... Elmhurst has another horrible shooting night 3-19 from 3's.. probably glad to be leaving Fulton

Webster crushes Calumet 85-55... 14 players play, 14 players score for the Gorlocks...  some new frosh show great potential, and Kevin Miller may be the real deal in the middle.....
