The other two Vegas Players got 8 minutes each. 78-50 Rhodes. Good Live Video feed today. Well, it's early in the season. Best I got. Leave it for Hopefan who saw it Live.

Obviously 8 minutes isn't much, so I won't bother..funny enough, the third Vegas guy was actually noticeable..Rio Justice Chandler had a couple of steals, a couple of three pointers, looked like he fit in...  But the new face that impressed me the most, and I gotta give Denny credit because he said so long ago.. was Cody Ettinger...  very solid build, aggressive, quick, active.. he can play...  unfortunately, much of what I saw today from Fontbonne fell well short of my expectations... it's gonna take some time.. Coach has to make some tough decisions as to who to give the time to so they can learn...

What an ugly day for the SLIAC... Mac inexplicably loses to Calumet, Webster can't put two days together and loses close to Rust, and Fontbonne gets blown out by a Rhodes team that lost to Wash U by 30... The SLIAC ends with my low mark prediction of 4 wins, and were happy to have that, given the two tight wins over Elmhurst....

Webster-Rust was a really good game. In watching the game I felt that turnovers hurt Webster, but in looking at the box score I'm not as convinced of that. Certainly Rust's outstanding 3-point shooting, primarily by #11, and converting more free throws were the bigger difference. I was also impressed with #15 for Rust who played a very aggressive offensive game against Mac's man defense on Saturday and a very controlled offensive game against Webster's zone today. He's a  senior and that is the kind of mature play you should expect. I also assume it was good coaching that contributed to that change in style. Kevin Miller for Webster had a solid game, including hitting a 3-pointer. Actually, I don't think there is that much for Webster to be disappointed about except the final outcome.

Was hopefan at fontbonne game.   How did they get blown out so bad?

Believe me Joe, I like Coach Schafer, and if I could find anything to write positively about, I would have... therefore take it that the offense was not smooth, the defense inexperienced and unable to stop Rhodes once they got rolling... they shot poorly, they got out-rebounded, and they had more turnovers than Rhodes....          OUCH

Thanks for the Props Hopefan. Cody has a chance to be a good one. Your prototypical Country Kid scorer. He work on the weights before coming in. He is strong enough to finish around the hole. Gets to the line and a good FT shooter. High Motor Player. He avg 30 in HS. That's in a 32 minute game. On any HS level that's tough to do. Had 44 in District Championship game.

He has toned down his looking to score quite a bit. Plays hard at both ends. Needs minutes to find the tempo of the college game. He is ahead of his group on physical size. So he needs to work on his 8' pull up and spot up catch and shoot. He doesn't have to create everything at this level.

Biggest Plus Hopefan: Great Great attitude. ;) :) :)

I had Bryce Dolan on IWU to follow and now Ettinger at FU to follow. I really do like Greenlee. Last night he planted himself down low and just took it to HC. Why can't that be a focal point?

Absolutely best of luck to Principia tomorrow night as they take on St Louis Pharma.... thought the streak might be broken vs Knox, certainly another real opportunity vs Pharma... I may try to go over tomorrow night.. if I do, may post 4 or 5 score updates so anyone who is interested can follow the progress... I think it will happen... FYI, the  streak is currently at 55 losses in a row.  I chatted with a couple of Prin players over the weekend, great kids, great attitudes, both are playing to win....

GC Panther 01

SLIAC player of the week.
Brady Slagle
Slagle, a senior forward from Winchester, Ill., picked up MVP honors in the Webster Cavallo Classic this past weekend after recording a pair of 20 point games. Slagle netted 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, adding four assists and three steals, in his team's season opening win; a 72-72 victory over Rust. He followed with 25 points and eight rebounds in his second outing. For the week Slagle averaged 24.5 points and 12.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 53-percent from the field.

I could be wrong about this, but I believe the program (which I discarded) that I had at the Webster games this weekend showed the upcoming game with Elmhurst on Tuesday 11/26 as being scheduled for 8 p.m. That is also what currently appears on the SLIAC site. However the WU website shows that game as being scheduled for 4 p.m. So I'm wondering if the WU website is wrong or if the time of the game has been changed.

Off-topic: the Westminster Men's Soccer team defeated Carleton and Gustavus in an otherwise improbable run to the Sweet 16.  This is a team with a starting line-up made up largely of St. Louis area players.

They will play Loras on the road on Saturday with an Elite Eight berth on the line.  If the Sweet 16 is not a SLIAC best, then certainly an Elite Eight berth would be, right?  Best of luck to the Fightin' Churchills!

I'm pretty sure it' a SLIAC best for men's soccer. One FU and one WU women's hoops teams have made the Sweet 16. And of course there are the 2012 and 2013 WU baseball teams that made the D3 World Series. A WU softball team made it to the regional championship game -- one game short of getting to that World Series. Perhaps there are other NCAA tournament achievements by SLIAC teams that I am not aware of.

Yjak - 2013 SC Golf team went to the NCAA Championship Tournament in Florida, last spring. Using SLIAC's first AQ in the sport. I can assume Principia and GC have done well in XC, also. But you pretty well got it covered. Good Job.

Can you shed any light on the Mac vs Calumet game?

hopefan

Spalding beat badly again, this time at Hanover.. and they may lose 3 more this week playing Transy and at a tourney up at Wheaton

Don't be fooled... in what is quickly showing the appearance of a down year in the SLIAC, they still have enough talent to win the conference...  if they can stay together through the brutal non conference schedule....

The main difference in the WU-Calumet and Mac-Calumet games is that Calumet had no idea how to play against Webster's zone so couldn't get their offense in gear and Mac played them man-to-man.
