Can you shed any light on the Mac vs Calumet game?

The main difference in the WU-Calumet and Mac-Calumet games is that Calumet had no idea how to play against Webster's zone so couldn't get their offense in gear and Mac played them man-to-man.

I knew that if you hung around me enough I could teach you this game!!! ;D ;D ;D

I checked out St Louis Pharma on the internet... this is not a 'given' win for Prin... St Louis Pharma has the same kids playing that beat Prin close twice last year and stunned Greenville.. including Shawn Menckowski who had 40+ last year vs Greenville...  also noticed Larry Patterson has not played for Prin, a big hit if he is gone...

Fell over backwards looking at Prin's site and their schedule indicates they BEAT Knox... had the score been reported in error on D3 Hoops.. was the streak broken??  ALAS no...error on Prin's site, as the accompanying article to the schedule discussed the defeat...

Yes, I should have given you credit for that observation in my post. If you recall, I did credit you with that in my voice mail on Sunday and in person when I came over to FU for the end of the game with Rhodes. I also had a long conversation with Mike Siener during the 2nd half of the Mac-Calumet game and also credited you with that observation then. He commented that most NAIA programs don't play zone defense so they seldom see it.

The logical question that follows is:  after seeing Calumet play miserably vs Webster's zone, why didn't Mac come out in a zone???  Even if they play man 99% of the time, they must have a little bit of zone in their reportoire....

QuoteEureka takes Monmouth to OT, but loses 93-90.. the Lobdell's combine for 50 points as Wilde's mentorship begins to pay premiums...looks like EC may have lost it at the foul line, missing 17 free throws.. play by play shows a great game, close the whole way.. EC's Seth Wickert tied it with a 3 point shot at 9 seconds left in OT, but Monmouth came back with a hoop and FT to win it..

EC came close in a wild overtime. Incidentally, Cole Jackson, who hit the final coast-to-coast layup for MC and a jumper with 1:32 left to give MC a 4 point lead, had considered playing for EC after his first stint with MC. Marious Lobdell 27 pts. on 9-24 shooting, 4-10 from 3 pt.  Lobdells take more than 50% of EC's fg attempts.

EC... the Lobdell's shots... do you see it as a good thing, or a bad thing?   Very curious as to what to expect....

hopefan -- regarding why Mac didn't play zone, you will probably need to ask Creal that question.

This is for ecreddevils. Do you have any observations about the EC women's team yet? If so I will look for them on the women's board.

Thanks.

I'm honestly not sure what to expect either.  This Monmouth game was one that EC should have won, had the lead down the stretch and MC hit a big three with :43 left.  The Lobdells can play, but I would be nervous about entrusting such a large piece of a team's offensive production to two guys.  EC is a true enigma this year, but the early returns have me wondering about depth.  There just isn't a ton beyond the top 6 (Connor Lincoln doesn't appear to be 100%) and the post could be an issue this year.  I will say one thing--EC played with tremendous energy against MC and did not quit--their full court pressure was very effective, when employed.

It will be interesting to see how things play out as the season goes on--we'll know more this time next week:  Central College (beat Monmouth 74-63), a D-1 test @ WIU, and then what looks to be an improved Rockford College team (beat Loras 89-84) are next.

Absolutely best of luck to Principia tomorrow night as they take on St Louis Pharma.... thought the streak might be broken vs Knox, certainly another real opportunity vs Pharma... I may try to go over tomorrow night.. if I do, may post 4 or 5 score updates so anyone who is interested can follow the progress... I think it will happen... FYI, the  streak is currently at 55 losses in a row.  I chatted with a couple of Prin players over the weekend, great kids, great attitudes, both are playing to win....

Have to think Prin gets it done tonight...Sydness had 42 vs. Knox.  La Pantera, La Pantera!
