WU plays at Eureka next Saturday, then hosts Monmouth on Friday 12/20. Monmouth beat Eureka by 3 in OT early in the season when the Lobdells were playing for Eureka. Saturday's game against Eureka could give some insights into what we might expect for WU vs Monmouth.

hopefan

Only Lincoln Christian at Eureka during the week.. but it's a game to keep our eyes on, as I will hope that Eureka can get that elusive first win....

Saturday is an interesting mix of games..

Iowa Wesleyan plays at Blackburn... Wesleyan has never seen BC's homecourt advantage.. I'd bet that BC picks up their first win right after Eureka gets theirs... this might be a fun game to see...

And for the true SLIAC fan, take off from the BC game and go down to Prin for a rare Saturday evening league matchup vs Westminster... I'd expect Westminster by a bunch... but... if Justin Ball has the energy to have a big game, Westmin has no matchup.. still, Westmin's are guards will give Prin fits, Ball may never see the basketball....

Webster goes up to Eureka.... This would be a far more interesting game to see if the Lobdells were known to be playing... but their status remains the SLIAC's biggest mystery... without the Lobdells, I can't see this game being close....  Webster is playing pretty darned well right now...

Fontbonne plays at Elmhurst and MacMurray plays at Augie.... tough assignment for both

Hopefan I do think the FU @ Concordia - Chicago game is one the Griffins have a chance to Win. It would go a long way to giving these guys some confidence.

Hadn't gotten past next weekend... that's a week from Monday... I agree that's one fontbonne should get, but it's a time bomb ticking for a couple of reasons....  on the road, and right before Christmas when the young Fontbonne players may have visions of getting home creeping into their minds, plus being zapped from Finals... it won't be as easy as BC at home, that's for sure ;).

My thoughts on the Fontbonne - Webster game..
Degeare... wow very athletic... he could be a big time player... but he's gotta get stronger or he's going to get hurt..
I thought Rucker looked very good... some big time rebounding, just had put backs in traffic not go in for him..
against Webster, Dorhauer clearly looked like Fontbonne's best guard... and take charge guy they need...  beautiful moment as dorhauer yells 'CATCH THE DAMN BALL' when a pass was flubbed...
Welch and Ettinger had the same problem, their shots were flat, little chance of going in... they have to get the ball up in the air a little...
Bakus and Greenlee, for some reason, rarely saw the ball in scoring position

something to think about... Ahmad Smith got hot and made 3 3 pointers in a row... if that doesn't happen, it's really a reasonably competitive game.... defense against Miller was not all that bad, despite the fact he had a very good game... only 9 shot attempts, and the 30/20 I feared from him and Huskey came to only 18/12... but Webster's guards totally outplayed Fontbonne guards...

Hopefan's premier statement prior to game... Fontbonne can't afford to go 5-25 from 3's..... they went 4 -20
Hopefan's premier miss statement prior to the game... I'd like to see Blake Welch have a big shooting game... Blake went 1-10, 0-6 from 3's

I'd be interested in ecreddevil's observations about Monmouth -- assuming he saw the Eureka/Monmouth game.

Hopefan I agree Doerhaur had a better game, I believe 5-5 from the field. But he is still 9-29 from the field and 5-19 from three's. I hope this was a game that turned a corner for him. I don't know if I agree with a So., who had not played well in the first 5 games, is the right guy to be hollering something like that at another player. Maybe that comment coming from the Bench is more appropriate.

Obvious that Ettinger had his first poor shooting game. But, he is still 21-45 from the field on the season. I said we were more likely to see the 5-25 from 3's. FU is just not a good perimeter shooting team. I don't know who it's going to be, but FU needs one of the highly touted Freshmen Bigs to step up their game.

You said that FU Coach needs to put it's Best players on the floor. After watching Saturdays game do you have any better feeling on who that may be? I'm still waiting for JoeVegas to give us a scouting report on a healthy Guinn.

Miller only playing 18 minutes, might of made a difference in his output. I saw in the M S&T box score that Huskey didn't start. I hope Coach Bunch is not going away from playing the two Bigs, together.

Joevegas

Well I was at the Chicago Elite classic watching bishop Gorman get upset by Curie.  I did follow the live stat line.   Since I was not at the FU game it's hard for me to comment on nothing but the stats feed I was getting.  Hopefan should be setting the betting lines in vegas.  He really hit the three point shooting prediction on FU.  Look FU refuses to get the ball in the paint to score.  They live and die with the three. Degree should be at the three position all day.  I don't know Shafer, but its obvious he is at a loss what to do. Line up changes, Subbing 10 guys in first five minutes of game is called panic in my opinion.  The coaches haven't figured out how to use the big guys on this team.  Two of those kids only lost a total of seven games in their entire high school careers.  I'm sure the frustration within the team is growing.  How can a school have such a great recruiting year and be worse than previous year.  As far as I know Guinn is healthy and ready.  So I couldn't answer why he isn't playing.  Tucker is also healthy.  At this rate,  I'm not sure FU can win even six or seven games this season.  Gorman got beat Saturday and they have stellar players on the squad. Sometimes you win without the players that are the most stellar players on the team.  Play the ones who are winners and change that losing atmosphere that seems to be infecting this team.  As for the vegas players Guinn Tucker Yada and Rio, keep fighting and playing hard.  Go Fontbonne!!

Denny is absolutely right. You have to earn the right to yell at another player and Doehauer has not, especially in a voice loud enough to be heard in the stands.

This comment comes from someone who was a D2 head coach for nearly 900 games. He would have had a seat right next to me after saying that.

Maybe that sort of thing is one of Fontbonne's problems.

Denny McKinney

Well said Coach. Thanks for your comments. Hope all is well.

I believe the best part of your post is underlined. What follows is some pretty strong comments. About a pretty young coach. Hmmm!

JoeVegas- FU has a few non-conf games coming up. They have some pieces and just need to find what's their identity. DeGeare is starting to play like what was expected. I still think Bakis can be apart of going forward. Since you posted Guinn is getting healthy with that knee. What can we expect to see out of him. I know he started on a great HS team. But, what type of player is he? Will he be the Vegas kid that can help change this around.

FU Griff's need to keep playing hard. They will find a combination to get back on the upside.

Sir. I was just asking for a scouting report on Austin Guinn. I Did not ask WHY he wasn't playing.

Joevegas

Sorry Denny.  The Gorman team I watched last year was a very good defensive team. Guinn has long arms and when him and Zimmerman played underneath the hoop it was tough for opposing teams to get inside.  They usually put him on the other teams most physical guy.  He usually got into their head which allowed for the rest of team to score. The guy fears no one  on the court. But a lot of the Gorman kids had no fear.   With Guinn u have to now how to play him.  His role in high school was good for the team but then again it was one heck of a team.  He isn't going to give you 10- 15 points a game  He gives you toughness underneath, defense and five to 8 points a game.  Anyway. That's my scouting report lol.

I was not at the EC/Monmouth game, but watched online.  My impressions were that EC gave that one away by some untimely bad play.  Monmouth is young but they have size and some shooters.  Cole Jackson was considering EC but gravitated back to Monmouth and has been playing well.  Nick Marema is their horse, absolutely tore up EC for 31.  As far as the WU game, EC will have a real chance at home. I would not expect the Lobdells back, but honestly the 7-8 man rotation without them is a competitive squad, just need chemistry.  Huskey and Miller will provide problems down low, still a solid 2-3 really stymied Mac's bigs. EC starting five is physically thick and strong at every position and can hold their own on the boards against bigger teams.  I expect a close game.

Sounds like EC might actually be a bigger, stronger team than WU, except for Miller.

I have to think there will be a much better game up here, although an extra two hours of driving for you. Haven't seen WU yet, but James, Wickert, and Lincoln are all physically strong in a Nailor/Rivera type way.  It will be good for this group to get Lincoln Christian tomorrow before the Web game.
