EC 81 WU 74  OT Good, hard-fought game, EC lulls again to start second half, but then surges.  Smith hit a long jumper (foot on the 3 line??) with :02 to send it to OT, but EC simply out-scrapped WU  in the extra frame and would not be denied the win.

-WU really not super impressive tonight other than Smith who carried them.  Huskey and Edwards held in check.

-EC is a very tough and physical team 1-5, controlled the boards and got to more loose balls all night.  Josh Fenoglia played with energy and had a monster game, made FTs down the stretch.

-Kevin Smith is an intriguing player and has nice touch around the basket, but EC pushed him around in spots and his lack of hops seriously hurt him on the boards.

-Forget the records, this was a statement game for EC in terms of being a factor in the SLIAC, they looked the better team for most of the night.

WOW EC   that's a shocker.. thanks for the quick turnaround on the writeup... it certainly changes the outlook for the league's potential standings... pushes Eureka UP to the maybes, bring Webster Down to the maybes...  Seems we're looking at Mac as proven, Spalding Almost proven, Greenville, Webster, Eureka, Westmin as battling for spots, Fontbonne half a step back from the group, and Prin, IWC and BC working to stay out of the basement....

Makes the Eureka at Westmin game Tuesday that much more interesting..... Westmin looked pretty good today, albeit vs Prin....

Heard through the grapevine today.. Lobdells GONE, Larry Patterson will play in Prin's next game.....

Westminster used an interesting lineup change to help them beat Prin yesterday... Frosh big man Javier Ortega Martin started in the middle, giving Westminster a stronger inside presence  than they had shown before... he is athletic for a SLIAC bigman (6'8"), and pretty much dominated Prin frosh big man Justin Ball when they were head to head...  Ball really is not very effective when not right around the hoop, Martin could be a threat to go to the basket from 12-15 feet... and Martin is not a skinny... a solid 235 lbs...  if he gets a little more aggressive and gets the ball higher in traffic, he'll be a force...

Another difference seems to be the role Joe James played.. looking much more to pass than score.. though in tighter games, against man to man I'm sure he'll be going to the hoop more....  and Brandon Moore, hot as hot can be.. not the kid you want to play a relatively passive zone against...

If Martin can continue to perform in the middle for 20-25 minutes per game, it gives Westmin an option that hadn't shown itself before, really making them a threat....

Spalding has 3 total wins. Anderson 0-10, Blackburn 0-8 and IWC (1 DIII win over BC). I'd say they a Far from "Almost Proven". They need a couple of Quality wins to prove they can compete for a spot.

Karma points are coming from all sides (+ and -). I guess it's Open Season. ??? :-* ;D

I'll take the Sherlok (mispelled) statement as either a backhanded compliment or a sense of humor, rather than even hinting it has your some times negative connotations ;D ;)

The Spalding statement is based on the fact that Spalding has met my expectations... losing their two best players (probably the two best players in the conference last year along with Mark Lessen) and two other starters they've beaten the weaker teams they've played... easily... the 5 teams they've lost to have a combined record of 27-10, the worst being Wheaton 6-3 and Emory 6-3.... I don't know that they would have beaten that quality LAST year, much less this year.  They have 6 players who contributed last year to a championship team and a seventh (Sangester) who hasn't played yet, but is on the roster... that seems to merit an almost proven to me.....

Just to take your side, Honestly, if you want to lump Spalding in with the group, You could just as easily put Mac their too... they nearly gave away the game to Rust (who is now 4-7) and their win over Eureka hardly qualifies as earth shattering... hey Mac beat Eureka, Eureka beat Webster, Webster beat Greenville... who knows, this season could be incredible fun if 5 or 6 teams have 5 losses going into the last week....

All Chuckles, Hope. They only scored 61 vs IWC. There is a lot to replace, mostly chemistry. I think EC, WC, WU and GC playing with them every nite. Again, I have not seen Mac yet.I think it's a 6 team race.

FU needs to blend. Greenlee, DeGeare, Bakis, Welch and Ettinger are a good core. (3 Fr., 2 So.) No Doerhaur in boxscore? I think I'd put JoeVegas' guy Demisse let the Senior run the show. He has the experience. He plays under control. Let these guys Gel. Give them some long PT together. And, run some kind of continuity offense / a good transition offense.

Heard JV have been playing lots of games. Good minutes for some of that Youth.

Denny McKinney

Well CUC 100 FU 85. This game was close for 30 minutes. Great to see DeGeare get on the boards again. Welch has a tough night. Two weeks till Wash u. Then back on the road to Spalding. Tough Stretch! Mike Jackson was tough loss. Maybe some of the Youth will see time next semester. Nathan Riechart could surprise? Merry Christmas Grif fans. ;D

My curiosity up huge as to absence of Rich Dorhauer from Griff lineup...  injury? Coach's decision? Player's decision? Permanent? Temporary?  I hope it works out....

Going to try to go over to Westminster tonight to see Eureka-Westmin, providing work doesn't get in the way..  Anxious to see all the new faces on the court for Eureka... haven't seen them yet this year... I really enjoyed going up to Eureka last year, then seeing them down at the conference tourney... hoping the level of play is slowly progressing to last year's level...

I'm hoping Temporary, Hopefan. He played for former Griff PG Kevin Walsh at Vianney HS. It would be a shame. Although, it hasn't been a stellar year for the kid. Still, injury is the only option I could see. Or, maybe illness.

I guess Coach Schaefer has a couple of weeks to prepare this bunch for SLIAC play. I would think this is a Great time for a little Holiday Break. Come back fresh.

Westminster is a tough place to win.

Joevegas

I watched the FB Concordia game on live feed with a couple of friends who coach HS basketball here in town.  The only real positives for FB is DeGeare and Greenlee.  DeGeare has proven to be an excellent outside shooter.  Some lower level D1 teams ought to take a look at him.  Put some weight on that kid and take a shot on him. Just my opinion.   The year has shown that this team is a one dimension team. Shoot the three.   FB should have won this game easily, Concordia was not a talented team.  Coach Schaefer needs to shake it up or this already long season will get longer

IWC will beat ITT easily.

JoeVegas- in your opinion, how do you see a possible shake up? He  has tried playing almost everyone he has.

EC lost at Monmouth by 3 in OT -- first game of the season when the Lobdells were playing, scoring 50 points between them. Webster just lost at EC in OT -- no Lobdells. Other than home court advantage, what are the factors you think will help Webster beat Monmouth?

P.S. I just re-read your comments on the EC-Monmouth game back on p 772. That helps answer my question, but would still be interested in any other thoughts you have.
