Jaybird - Not sure who you are. So it would be tough to say Hello. Besides, I won't be at the game on the 30th. Sorry.

Jaybird is Wash U SID.... Young darkhaired guy....
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

Oh Ok. Sorry Jaybird, but I've seen my DIII game for the year. Good luck to your Bears this season.

Bad news.. I've bragged on how great this year's conference season could be given a potential 6 team race for the top 4 spots... as well as some strong 'show me' competition amongst the bottom 4...

BUT

Wow.. when compared to all other conferences in D3... in the Massey ratings... ouch... we are dead LAST... well, we did beat out  the grouping of D3 independents, a handful of schools that includes Rust and a bunch of schools mostly out East... But dead LAST amongst all legitimate conferences.. for the D3 unworldly, that's 43 out of 43 conferences (Massey has a couple more because he splits a couple of the conferences into 2....)

Why.. well, we're 11-32 against other D3 schools, with little hope of improving on that with only a handful of games remaining... we haven't beat much of anyone, with the season opening wins by Westmin and Greenville over Elmhurst and Prin's stunner over Millikin being the best of what we've accomplished...There are MANY lopsided losses that can't be ignored either...

I'm still going to enjoy the intensity of the conference matchups, but my thoughts of the SLIAC moving up to the top part of the bottom third of conferences (being competitive with the likes of the MWC, Nathcon, perhaps even the HCAC) have really taken a hit this year...

Very disappointing to me as a very loyal supporter of this conference.....

There is another rankings website out there -- BennettRank: http://bennettrankbasketball.com/conference-rankings-2013.

It has the SLIAC at #34. You have to scroll down past the D1 and D2 boxes. When you see the D3 box you can scroll inside it to find the SLIAC at #34. I'm not sure if this is pre-season or current. Most of the other rankings on the site are for games through 12/22, so hopefully they also update their conference rankings. Of course it also says there are only 9 teams in the SLIAC, so they may not be accounting for Iowa Wesleyan. If not, that could certainly change things.

LOL

I have been called many things, so being young and dark-haired is an upgrade from my middle-aged and greying countenance.

Too bad I wasn't on the scene between 2006-2009, when WashU and Fontbonne both had three players on the floor with over 1400 points apiece.  The '08-09 matchup looked like a fun one to watch.

Jaybird that game Featured three 2009 D3Hoops All Americans on the floor. Wash U, Aaron Thompson and Sean Wallis FU, Brian Fogerty. Actually, McCoy and Branch had 1500 and Fogerty 1750.

Very interesting game...a one-point margin held by WashU with 3:50 to play, before the Bears closed the game with a 12-2 advantage aided by a cold 1-for-10 shooting finish by Fontbonne.

Two Griffins of this year's vintage are progressing well.  Freshman Bryan DeGeare is averaging 16 points and 11 boards in his last 4 games, and sophomore Jared Greenlee is averaging 15/6 in his last 2 games.  Very young team, with one senior and two juniors.  How fast they develop will determine if they can compete for the SLIAC title this season.  An 8-point loss to a 7-3 Elmhurst squad offers some hope.

WashU looked like it needed the holiday break, after a shaky win at home vs. Coe during finals week.  I believe the free throw line will indicate how refreshed the Bears are, following the break.  They are at 63%, following a 9-20 showing against Coe.  Kudos to Tim Cooney, who is averaging over 11 ppg after seeing his scoring dwindle from 8 to 6 to 5 ppg before this season.  He has greatly improved his shooting percentages across the board this season, to go along with his strong defense and rebounding.

"The Wydown Showdown" tips off at 7:00 Monday night, at Fontbonne...

Westminster got a nice non-conference win last night over Coe, whose only previous losses were to Illinois Wesleyan and Wash U. Joe James had 32 points and 10 rebounds. The Blue Jays were able to mount a 13-0 run over the final 3 minutes to come back and take the lead for good. They hung on for an 82-80 win.

Thanks Mobball. WC adds Coe win with their win over Simpson. Two quality wins for the SLIAC. Can WC ride Joe James to the Finish Line?

Watched the last 6 minutes of this game on the internet.. Westmin was down 75-65 and comes back.. pretty much a one man show by Joe James, with one critical hoop by Brandon Moore down the stretch... GREAT WIN for Westminster;  I'm very curious as to how they'll stack up against the upper half of the SLIAC... Joe James can't do it himself.. need more from Verdis Lee (his scoring is down slightly from last year).. and Brandon Moore, an outstanding shooter, needs to stay active without the ball to get shots.. James will find him.. the 3 of them will be tough to handle....

Incidentally, Westmin plays home standing Mount Mercy today at 3 PM... Mount Mercy lost to Coe in 3 OTs earlier this season, so it should be another tough test for Westmin...

hopefan,

Any idea who won the Dallas at MacMurray game that was played at 4 PM Sunday afternoon ? Neither team had the score posted on their website as of 1:30 this morning and the SLIAC website didn't have it either.
