Hopefan standings after Saturday's games

Mac +2   wins at top5 Westmin, at top 5 Greenville

Spalding  +1  win at top 5 Westminster

Greenville -1  loss at home to top 5 Mac

Webster   -1  loss to bottom 5 Eureka

Westminster  -2  losses at home to top 5 Spalding and MacMurray

More importantly... look at the remaining schedules  games vs top 5, away
Mac still plays at Webster
Spalding plays at Mac and at Westminster
Greenville plays at Westminster
Webster plays at Greenville, at Spalding and at Westminster
Westminster plays at Mac and at Spalding

If Mac can win at Webster and beats Spalding at home, they will finish first.
However if they lose at Webster, but beat Spalding at home, things end in a tie...
Webster has the toughest remaining schedule, which means they don't have a tourney spot locked, especially with that loss to Eureka... that is the only loss by a top 5 to a bottom 5, and it could really bite the Gorlocks in the final standings

GC's last 5 games of the season @ Home. That has to be huge.

If they can win at Westmin, it is a big step towards locking the top 4 for both them and Webster... Westmin will just have too many home losses to recover...

Daydreaming ahead to conference tourney time...

The tourney is Thursday Saturday this year... the ladies get Friday Saturday....

So it seems that Mac has the definite edge to win the conference (though I notice Dylan Burton was absent form the lineup in their last game.. if it is anything serious, it really hurts Mac's depth)

Spalding is the obvious 2nd place team, but could still surpass Mac

Webster is too strong, if they stay healthy, to falter...they should finish third, though are not yet a lock for the tourney.. they need to beat Gville or Westmin on the road to pretty much lock down their spot.

Greenville and Westmin both seem to be running out of gas... Greenville won at home vs Westmin....they go to Westmin on Wednesday... neither have beaten Webster, Spalding or Mac yet.. both have opportunities coming... but if Greenville wins at Westmin, they'll have a huge advantage in the standings plus the 1st tiebreaker over Westmin...

All to say.. the conference Semis would be pointing to a 2-3 game of Webster-Spalding, and a 1-4 game of Mac vs Gville/Westmin.... that could be a great 2-3 game, and Mac Would be a huge favorite in the other Semi....  Mac vs either Spalding or Webster would be a must see in the championship game... got a feeling there will be a very good turnout at this one... Mac students are on campus or local and support the team very well...

HOWEVER, none of this is set in stone.. Webster COULD still jump into the middle of things with road wins at Westmin and Gville and an upset of Mac at home or down at Spalding...

Lots of fun...

AND  Joe V and Denny... there is still a slim chance.. slim but not impossible.. that Fontbonne could make some noise...IF they take care of business against the bottom 4, it wouldn't be unimaginable to think they could beat Westmin at home... and with that win.. they could conceivably win at Greenville too... that would put them at 10-6 with two games left... both at home.. but against Mac and Webster... But even 10-8 could finish 4th...  highly unlikely for the Griffs, but.......

This room boggles my mind... it gets between 350 and 400 views per day during the season.. yet no contribution from anyone but me and the 'now and thens' including yjack, Denny, JoeV, and EC...  I try to put things out there that would stir interest... predictions, little known facts, even a controversial shot at programs or individuals when I think it's merited... but also the praise when merited too... but really limited feedback...

I should charge.... ;D ;D ;D

And believe me, there may be more coming with time redistribution coming up in 5 days!! ;) ;)

Well, keep reading and enjoying...

Good stuff, I just feel like the conference tournament picture is pretty much set at this point.  Mac and Spalding are the clear top two teams to me, it comes down to these two for the championship.  Would give the home team the obvious slight advantage there.  So, mark 2/17 as the only real significant game left, imho.  I know Webster has the nice win over Spalding at home and could play spoiler, just don't see them winning on the road in the tourney.   Westmin and GC are just too inconsistent as potential four seeds to win it all.

Right now I'm a bit  more interested in the women's side of things.  Huge game this weekend, SU @ EC, EC can slip back into a tie with Spalding after a somewhat disappointing stumble @ GC.  EC also holds a home win over conference 8-1, IW.  The hope is to win out and host conference; that starts Saturday with the must win vs. SU.

I see the Eureka at Fontbonne game has been rescheduled for Thursday night... big game for both teams... really kind of a proving grounds to show who is in better shape this year, who has the very early advantage going into next year.... I honestly expect Fontbonne to win by double figures....

Thanks WUfan....Wow..early decision, though maybe snow already being seen over in Alton area...scheduling may really get squeezed the last couple of weeks if this weather keeps up...

Hopefan you should be very Proud of the number of viewers you have. Now that you have time. Start your own website. Hopefan Hoopnotes? You might be able to supplement your fixed income. ;D

A couple of things: Longtime BBall Coach and AD Doug Faulkner of GC, has taken another position with the school. By far, one of my favorite people in the SLIAC.
SLIAC Head of Men's Basketball Officials, Ron Zetcher, is retiring after along run in the business. Wasn't always a fan of his officials. But, he and my Dad went way back. I respect how Ron treated my father.

As for posting on here. I don't have a lot to offer. I've seen a dozen games. One in person and the rest streaming. Never seen this much disparity in the SLIAC. The top 5 are basically spotted 10 wins from the bottom 5. What we have one upset? EC beat Webster. So if you want to make the tourney, protect homecourt and that's 14 wins. That's what I see it taking to get in, 14 wins. Wow!

The family has stayed busy attending all of My Little Brothers games. He is the Head Coach at Sullivan HS and is sitting at 16-4. Great Year. But, St. Francios Borgia HS is in the same district. So it usually very hard to get out of their Class 4 Districts. Very entertaining Ball. And, nothing better then Small Town HS basketball crowds. Packed house every nite. But, Please put a 60 second shot clock in HS basketball.

I'm rooting for GC to make the tourney. So it's time to watch the Big game up at Fulton.
