Let's call a spade a spade...NOT ONE CCIW fan gave Webster a chance tonight. NO ONE! And that's fine...IWU obviously is a far more prestigious program than WU is...that said, we SLIAC fans knew this Webster team could hang if they played well. They did. They went toe-to-toe with one of the nations best. Coach Bunch and his Gorloks continue to close the gap between them and the CCIW. In due time, he'll get them there!

Titan Q

Tremendous performance tonight by the Gorloks.  Big play after big play down the stretch.

Congrats, SLIAC and Webster fans!

Alright, I've had my cooling off period. What an effort by Webster. Wow! We all know IWU is a great program...makes it sting that much more that the refs didn't even allow WU the opportunity to put the ball up. What a shame! Anyhow, great game, great atmosphere!  Hunter Ward, without question, was easily the best player on the floor tonight...and it's not even close! Again, so proud of Coach Bunch and his squad. Way to represent!  Now, time to drink my sorrows away.

Quite honestly.. wait til next year... Coach Bunch has groomed Etter and Odjo to replace Hollis Edwards, if we can just find a competent big man to step into the 3 big man rotation for Jarrod Huskey....   Next year could really be it.....

I guess what I'm saying Greg, is that if certain SLIAC fans looked at the matchups, looked at the perceived quality of Webster's team vs that of IWU's team and came away saying hey Webster can play with these guys, then it would not have been an upset in the minds of those SLIAC fans if Webster had come away with the win.... as compared to coming into the game acknowledging a 30 point defeat.

We're just going to have to disagree about this, I guess.

Quote from: hopefan on March 07, 2014, 11:37:41 PM... Quite honestly, Webster has as good of a starting 5, actually first 6, as I have seen in the SLIAC (or that at least matches Fontbonne's from several years ago)...to me their ultimate downfall was Miller and Edwards fouling out (wow, where did a couple of those against Miller come from?), which killed their rotation in the last 5 minutes...

Well, it's certainly worth mentioning that the player who came in for Edwards was the one who fouled Overstreet with nine seconds left. Overstreet does have a knack for creating things for himself in the lane -- it's probably the best thing he does -- but it looked as though he was cut off pretty nicely a good fourteen feet away from the basket before he was fouled.

Quote from: hopefan on March 07, 2014, 11:37:41 PMI credit IWU's depth for getting them the win....

The depth and the experience. These Titans have been in this sort of situation an awful lot in the past. That's a team made up of seniors and juniors that have played a lot of very, very big games against top-notch D3 teams over the course of their careers, and in the final couple of minutes that was telling.

Quote from: hopefan on March 07, 2014, 11:37:41 PManother announcer quote... 'well it might be a good thing for Webster that Miller fouled out'...followed by some negative remark about how he had played....    GEESH

I did understand where he was coming from on that, since Miller hadn't played a particularly good game and the Gorloks made much of their comeback from 18 down with Miller on the bench. The commentator was on the money when he said, back in the first half, that a guy with Miller's size should go straight at the basket every time he got the ball down in the blocks, whereas Miller definitely looked too tentative at times.

But, yeah, that remark about it being a good thing for Webster that Miller had fouled out was not a smart comment at all. Off-game or not, you definitely don't want to lose a player with Miller's attributes late in a close game. Nevertheless, I think that the IWU guys generally did a good job with the broadcast.

Agree, Hopefan!  Said the same thing tonight midway through the 2nd half.

And hats off to the class act Titan fans and the rest of the CCIW crew posting on here. Much respect! Rooting for the Titans the rest of the way!

AND...I'd also mention, the SLIAC's last two entrants, Westmin two years ago and Spalding last year have given Top notch teams Wash U and Hope all they could handle in first round games....  I really think the SLIAC's top teams are catching up a little, and that first NCAA win is coming sooner than some would think...

And we come VERY MUCH CLOSER

Haha. Very true!

As a new dad speaking to a soon to be new dad, my comment is: get off D3boards.com and go drinking while you can.  I got a hall pass to go watch Washington University play tonight, but tomorrow it is daddy daycare and watching parts of the second round online.

Denny McKinney

First off. Please tell me the attendance was more then the posted 1750
Second. If Coach Bunch and squad were playing tomorrow nite there would be how many? 350
Third. How well does IWU travel?

I think they got refunded for the Gorlok's trip.

And, I am still in decompression mode. And, haven't processed the last minute of the game yet.

Ordinarily, my comeback for that would be that there's no carryover, that one year's narrow loss doesn't necessarily mean beans the next March -- especially if it's a different team involved. But, looking at the Webster roster, I can definitely see the Gorloks being the breakthrough team in the 2015 tournament if they can bring everybody back that is eligible to return (which is not necessarily a given for a lot of SLIAC programs). They looked like a Top 25 team tonight -- and tonight obviously proved that Webster's prowess has reached the point where it doesn't matter where they get sent or who they're matched up with.

If I was a coach of a traditional-power team, I would not want to be paired with Webster in next year's first round.

No, that looked about right to me. IWU is on spring break, so it was mostly townies, parents, and alumni wearing green tonight. There were a lot of empty seats in the endline sections and in the sideline sections closest to the endlines.

Perhaps even fewer.

Very, very well. Wesleyan gets more road fans than some SLIAC teams get home fans.

Greg enough all ready. Your patronizing, pot shot comment. Ain't flying. The people watching online. Just watched the CCiW Champs threw up their lunch all over the floor. And, gets bailed out. Choose a different target for your late nite Blog. That response will stir up a hornets net. We don't want your respect, didn't ask for it and not needed on our page tonite. Post it on the CCIW Page. Your boys let it get away. That's two in a row for IWU. I am highly disappointed in the IWU performance. And, someone please mention that it took Nelson 35 mins. 14 fga to lead IWU with 16. Let's Get it together before you make it three in a row. At home. IMHO
