Well I tried giving a few basketball topics. Thought it might stir a few more comments

This is what's known as "The hopefan Dilemma". Perhaps it's not technically a dilemma in the true definition of the word, but you get my point. It's this: (1) Do I post something hoping to initiate a conversation, or do I not post it fearing that no conversation will ensue? Then: (2) If I post something and no one replies, do I make a second post expressing disappointment that no one has replied, and wonder why?

Yjak +1K. But, I thought these two were right up Hope's alley.  ???

Perhaps I should rename it "The hopefan-Denny McKinney Dielmma" forever linking you two as sharing at least this in common when it comes to D3 and SLIAC hoops.

Now that really deserves a +1. haha Now I have to wait 24 hours.

Where on Big Bend? It's a pretty long road. Are you making an assumption that it'a a basketball player? Could it be a Wash U football player -- or basketball player? Or someone at FU? Or maybe the guy was 50 years old but just really big. Need more details.

Denny McKinney

It was just west of WU campus on Big Bend. And, he wasn't 50. Haha

On the SLIAC website, in the twitter posts, it shows that the SLIAC has chosen a new commissioner. It is the Blackburn AD. What? Really? I've never met the lady. What does this say about the direction this conference has chosen to travel?  ??? :o :-[

Curious to know why you chose to include the sentence I've bolded. She's only been AD at Blackburn for a little over a year, so what chance would you have had to meet her?

We should not be passing any judgment on what this decision means. Let's remember that Commissioner Wolper only left two months ago and I think only gave about a month's notice. The search that led to the hiring of Wolper was able to be carried out with a commissioner (although he was not full time) still in place and took place in the late winter/early spring. This is an unusual time of year to be trying to fill this type of position.

Yjak - I had know idea of the length of her tenure. It was just my way of saying it wasn't a statement of her personally. Is she leaving BC? Is it a dual position for her? She does not have to meet my approval. It just seems odd to me.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant by that. I would think she'd have to leave BC in order to take the job, even if the commissioner's job is back to part time. If she works both for BC and the conference that seems to me to be a conflict of interest. In fact, thinking about it, it seems best to go outside the conference to hire for the position. Having said that, it could all work out fine.

Hopefan that seemed to be a job right up your alley. Or, maybe a little coaching in your future?

Denny, Unfortunately, away from Coaching or NCAA far far too long... Had Will Wolper stayed, I would have approached him to see if he would have liked some help... an additional SLIAC rep at some contests, internet research etc... Retirement permits me the time... With his departure, I guess I'll just stay a Loyal SLIAC fan...

Yjack... reading Ms. Morenz's Bio surely doesn't show an active Athletic Department career, so I think skeptisism is warrented.. a professional background that shows being a trainer, an equipment manager, a move away from athletics into the Development Office, then teaching PE and Sports Management, and finally the year as AD at Blackburn....  She's dealing with Coaches when she's never coached, and the NCAA when she has just one year of AD experience....That seems light to me compared to Wolper who had prior commissioner's experience, or SLIAC Commish who came in with 40 years of coaching experience....  Hopefully she'll have a strong personality to make critical decisions that arise...

I'm aware of one long tenured SLIAC coach who has recurring thoughts of getting out.. wish that coach had considered application to the position....

Her bio also says "is currently working on her doctorate from the United States Sports Academy in sports management with an emphasis in leadership". So that's a proper trajectory. Lack of coaching experience might be a concern , but I don't think Wolper had ever been a coach -- could be wrong about that, though.

I still think hiring from outside the conference would have been the best approach if that had been possible.
