I see that Spalding lost to Oglethorpe 79-67. A battle of birds -- Stormy Petrels over Golden Eagles.

Good luck to the other SLIAC teams today. Webster, this time please don't wait until there are four seconds left to take a lead over Monmouth, and win this one going away.

Let's hope all the names missing from Webster's exhibition game are ready to go tonight...

From what the article in the student paper of a few weeks ago said Griffin won't be ready and Ahmad Smith will only have had a few days of practice. Don't know what's up with Kevin Miller or Danny Zehner.

Yjak. WOTS is Griffin will return next week and Miller could be out an extended period. Good Luck to the boys.

Fontbonne appears to have lost a heartbreaker 66-64

WUPHF

Hendrix is reporting a 68-66 score. I had planned to watch both the Fontbonne and the Washington University games, but I am feeling cheap today and Rhodes wants $8.

WUPHF

Eureka is up by 20 or so early in the second half against Rockford College.

I refuse to pay to watch. Live stats will do.

Up at Elmhurst Millikin led Westmin 35-27 at the half. That broadcast is free. Neither team was looking very good.

Final scores:

Eureka 80 - Rockford 68
Millikin 68 - Westmin 52
Principia 81 - Lincoln Christian 50

Greenville @ Elmhurst, Webster @ Monmouth, Blackburn @ Colorado College all in progress.

Really impressive first win for EC with many quality contributions.  This team looks fit and focused and will not go 5-20 this year.

Greg Kent is a very strong, aggressive point guard, will make a huge difference this year.  Parker Gibson looks to be much stronger and could be setup for a huge leap forward.  Sam James turns in a very efficient scoring performance (except FTs).  Ian Saathoff gets big minutes and a double-double (11/11) in his Freshman debut, will only get better.  Nick Finney maybe the biggest surprise--career best game for Finney, flying all over the court giving energy and contributing some offense in the right spots.

Things get tough quickly @ D-1 Eastern Illinois on Monday, but extremely encouraging first win.

Monmouth 67  Webster 49     abysmal box score in all areas

Yep it was me that was crying Webster deserved Top 25 recognition - Sager, who supported some of my thoughts, I APOLOGIZE!!!!

I don't care who was missing from the lineup, you shouldn't be losing to Monmouth getting out rebounded badly, shooting poorly, turning the ball over 20 times...  very disappointing.

Who would have thought the two SLIAC wins on opening day (so far) would come from Prin and Eureka... Congrats to both!!!

FU played without Gentry, Greenlee and Kissing. Still had the ball with a chance to tie or win. Greenlee could of made a big difference in the out come. We knew Greenlee and Kissing would be out. Gentry? Who knows? My opinion is FU is better without him. Everything that glitters isn't gold. Poor shooter and sub par defender. You can have all the speed and handles in the world, but does that make you a player? We've seen a large sample size and it didn't translate to wins. Great effort today Griffin's. Tough match up tomorrow. I can see this team turning the corner, when the Greenlee and Kissing return.

If Webster loses to Knox tomorrow we'll know there's a serious problem that need to be fixed.

Later last night, Greenville loses to Elmhurst, but Spalding beats Toccoa Falls... Spalding's Brandon Gabriel has a huge game with 25 point, 8 rebounds, 3 assists.. newcomer Jametrius Moore has another solid effort off the bench with 12 points, 8 rebounds....

Sooooooo.. the SLIAC men get 3 wins on Saturday, but only one of them is against a D3 team.. Eureka's win over Rockford....

AND.. the question in my mind... Can Webster really compete without Kevin Miller.....  you expect streakiness out of Smith, Ward, Griffin... but Miller is a rock who gives you 15 and 8 every night....
