Webster knocks off Westminster 71-53.  Curious to see the box since I only got to watch the stream of the 2nd half but from what I saw it didn't look like much of a contest.

You've probably seen the box score by now so you can tell from the play-by-play that Westminster cut the lead to one early in the second half then Webster slowly pushed it back up but it was still only 11 points with 4:39 to go before pulling away at the end. From what I could tell Westminster attacked the zone fairly well and got the ball inside for shots but not enough of them went in. It was hard to tell how big their inside guys were, but it seemed like they had decent height. It was good to get this win on the road because Westminster will likely be better when they come to Grant Gym so that could be a tough game.

In other SLIAC action last night Mac beat Blackburn by 18 and Eureka beat Iowa Wesleyan by 6. Spalding at Greenville tonight. Is hopefan there?

A shout out to Denny McKinney who had his stay in the DaVinci Room this afternoon. Hope everything went well and that you are on the speedy road to recovery.

And, how about Fontbonne winning out over Eureka on the road, 76-68.  Greenlee and Kissing finished with 18 points and 8 rebounds each along with a block and a couple of assists.  Not to mention, both finished with only two fouls each.

By the way, who at Fontbonne (or no longer there) agreed to play Eureka the day before a game at Augustana?

Hopefully Fontbonne is spending the night somewhere in northwest Illinois tonight instead of coming back to STL and traveling again tomorrow.

The other impressive point about this win is that they did it without the 2 starters who went down with ankle rollovers vs Prin... Williams and Bakis... Dorhauer gets the start.. he didn't look very pleased with his performance vs Prin the other night..  Eureka's mere 6 point win over IWC was a pretty good indicator that they were going to have trouble with Fontbonne... notice they, like Prin, are basically playing only 5 or 6 guys....

I'm a little disappointed no one has discussed the Greenville shellacking of Spalding on here yet.  Hopefan you're slacking.  :-)

I agree WU fan... yesterday was a tough day to find time.. so now...

Observations on a trip to Greenville-Spalding

Still love the support Greenville gets at games... side across from benches was so crowded that a group of 20 students came over and sat behind scorers table... add a pep band, a mime troop, a cheerleading squad, and the local jr high choral group, and it was great atmosphere for a SLIAC game..  AND, not sure the reason, but coach Barber was splendidly dressed in total white, scarf, suit,  shirt, shoes..... I should have taken a picture...

Greenville led from the beginning, starting out up 12-1... and if they had not turned the ball over 10 times in the first half, they could have been up by 20 at half....  the two Brandons (Goeing and Gabriel) and big man Renaldo Moore had 3 points among them in the first half, and those 3 are the 3 true returning players from last year... only James Turner's efforts in the first half kept the game from being a blowout...  Goeing had a streak in the second half hitting several shots in a row, but it was pretty much of a hopeless cause.  This group is nowhere near the talent level we've come to expect from Spalding... Gabriel's game is suffering because people can guard him now, not having to worry about collapsing the defense to help out on others.  The 4 frosh, all of whom saw significant time, looked intimidated, either by Greenvilles athletes, or for fear of Coach Gray's icy stares if they made a mistake.  Add to that an overzealous officiating group who made a bunch of ridiculous touch foul calls and hit Spalding with 2 techs, and it was a tough night for the team from Louisville.

Not to take anything away from Greenville... they looked good, not great... way too many turnovers... I question their guards ability to handle pressure and make good decisions... Harris was all over the boards, a great athlete.. and Ted Daniel lit it up from the perimeter, but had to spend time on the bench with foul trouble.... Nick Trisko has changed his body from a 7.0 earthquake to a 6.0...still takes a 3 point shot and gets pulled, and laughs about it on the bench... I have trouble taking him seriously, which is a shame, because he can obviously score around the basket...  new faces Andrew Scott and Elmo Smith looked good, but Scott took a serious blow to his shoulder on a drive to the basket and may be out for awhile.. he's a toughnosed 6'2" forward who goes for the ball hard....

Unlike Prin and Eureka, Greenville has a long bench, and Coach Barber uses just about everyone... that's a good thing, unless the first 6 or 7 guys aren't getting enough floor time to maximize their game.... Sometimes I think that hurts Greenville, but use of the bench is clearly Coach Barber's philosophy, and it clearly keeps the players happy....
