I think some of the rebounding problems from Aaron Griffin may be due to him playing the middle on the zone this year. I think he may be struggling with the adjustment. It is the easiest spot to play in a 2-3 but having played on the wing position all of last year it may be throwing him off this year. I think they need to work hard with him on his positioning and you will see his rebounding numbers go up. He is a good enough athlete, from what I've seen, to be able to out jump people especially in the SLIAC to go and get rebounds. Other than MAC and Prin who have true "big men" he should be at a size advantage over most of the teams. Greenville has Ron Harris but he isn't as big as the other 2 and he looks to be quite soft in the post. Seems like he doesn't like contact very much. This is a plus for Griffin because of his size.

Don't forget about Big Nick Trisko from Greenville... he's a slug, but he can score from down low....

This is true, he could give Griffin Fits on the board just because of sheer width.

of interest to long time SLIAC fans (Denny, you are the only one I know personally).. Maryville is having a reunion at their game tomorrow of 96,97,98 teams... Keith Pitillo, John Jones, Henry Shannon....    Fontbonne players then were Rod Tucker, Jason Malott, Jeff Branson, Doug Davinroy, Aaron Frison...

What were those teams/players like?

Hopefan- '95 went to the NCAA Tourney. '93 was the Best Team the Sliac has had. Bar None. The tournament was gone by that time. And so was the AQ. Rod Tucker still holds conference defensive records. Jason Mallot was one of the top 4 shooters to come thru FU. Doug Davinroy was from a State Champs Collinsville HS team. He honestly was headed for North Carolina. Mid year his Senior year he had a horrific knee injury. Cost him NC. Cost him athletism. And, a lot for desire. Aaron Frison was a Freak. Hops, a shot and a defensive nightmare. Jeff Branson still holds the school scoring record at 42 pts. One of those teams beat Wash U.

The conference went to Conference Champ took AQ. I think we finished 2nd like 5 straight years.

Surprised John Jones is there. If memory serves me right John Jones didn't finish his egabilty at MU. Could be wrong.

Other way around with John Jones.. he didn't start out at Maryville.. he went to SW missouri, found out he wasn't good enough there, and came to Maryville... He played at Eureka HS with another good player.. kid named Kirkpatrick...

Just noticed a game changer for my afternoon schedule!!!

Iowa Wez at Fontbonne!!!

Catch lady's game at 1:00
First half of men's game at 3:00
A quick 5 minute walk over to Wash U... See Wash U - Illinois Wez at 4:00
A quick 5 minute walk back to car....

Brilliant! Hoops, exercise, and the elimination of a potential parking problem all combined into one neat package. I might try the same thing, except probably won't catch all of the women's game.

Scary loss at FU today. It might be mentioned Colin Schirmer has left the team. No desire to play. you'd think one of the 10 would stick!?!

Yjack and I stuck to the schedule... Iowa Wez was better than expected, but Fontbonne was winning at half when we left... the big difference I noticed in the boxscore was that Gentry (who had played pretty well in the first half), entered the game in the 2nd half, had an immediate assist to Greenlee, then a turnover.. is taken out and never reappears.... Now then, his back was bothering him after a fall in the first half, and if that was the reason he didn't play more in the second half, it's understandable... otherwise, I dont' get it.. he makes things happen..

And Rucker gets 9 minutes?   that is crazy

And Kissing without a rebound? What was wrong there?

McDowell gets 24 minutes going 0 for 2, 1 rebound.... and he's playing the 3 spot that Rucker could be playing.. is it impossible to have Rucker, Kissing, and Greenlee in at the same time?

I've said before, I'm just a fan, I don't see practice, I don't know what is said on the bench...
But I can't make sense of some of this....  I want to see Fontbonne win...

Telling it like I see it.....

Hope. In reference to the big men who have past thru and not stuck. This is just a shame. HURTS. This years Junior class is the first class brought in by the last coach. Richie D, Welch, Rucker, Greenlee, Dioona, Peterson.....
Greenlee has turned into a nice player. Welch, give him 5 looks and he's there or not. Rucker I agree with you. His range is only 8 feet, But he'll fill a stat line. It went from Dorhours team last year, now back to Grentry this year. One thought. Compare Gentry's winning % to Cartez Parker's. Then last years coast to coast Class leaves us with Rio Justice, Hayward and Bakkis. So we're back to 2011.Time to rebuild, again.

I remember our team facing the 98 Maryville team in the SLIAC Tourney at home.  The sheer athleticism from Jones and Shannon alone was unreal.  I knew at that point that I had a ton of work to put in if I ever wanted to see the court in the future.
