Good recap from hopefan on the Webster-Fontbonne game.  One of the sloppiest, ugliest games I've seen in a while.  Just bad basketball.  Disappointing on many fronts as a Webster fan.  Lost a 17 point lead at home.  Terrible.  Way too much 1 on 1 play on the offensive end.  Thought Webster was lazy on the defensive end.  Fontbonne did a great job of getting good looks on Webster's zone.  Good ball movement and they hit key shots.  Credit to them.  Ward was disappointing.  A guy with his talent should not disappear for long stretches of the game.  And he doesn't necessarily have to score to have to make a difference as other teams key on him.  Wonder why Odjo and Moore only played 13 and 15 min, respectively?  Hmmm.  Bright spots for Webster were Joseph Henry who played a very solid game, Turner with nice minutes off the bench for the Gorloks and Evans was solid too.  Looks like the league is wide open with a ton of parity...Hopefan's dream!  Should be a wild ride.

Wish the Buncher posted more often, though I realize he doesn't get to too many games... good to read another person's thoughts as to what is going on....  +1

My pleasant home of Iowa Wesleyan. Beautiful, historic, quaint.  BUT snow on the ground, 34 degrees, raining.  Ugh

Nice floor, 10 rows of bleachers both sides.  But both ends are walled just 3 feet off the court. Don't run thru on a layup, you'll hit that wall hard

IWC over Spalding 33 30 at half. Want the truth?  Both teams playing sub sub par. At least we have a close game.

ok so we finish midweek action with IWC at 4-1, 6 at 3-2, Spalding at 2-3, Greenville 1-4, Prin at 0-5..

After seeing Spalding last night, a word to the wise... don't rule them out... in the 2nd half, they looked VERY good...

Thoughts on last night:
Chris Fowler... almost a quadruple double... unfortunately one of the categories was Turnovers... many of his assists were works of art, but at times he got going too hard and turned it over.. he had to work pretty hard too, as frosh Rylan Rowe had enough quickness to give him a tough time...

IWC Mitch Drey really impressed... when I saw him vs Maryville, he was badly outsized and ineffective.. last night he mixed perimeter work (3 for 3 from 3's) with posting low and did both very well...

The combo of Fowler penetrating deep into the paint (UNSTOPPABLE) and then dishing out to Butler on the perimeter was the dagger that beat Spalding... Spalding kept cutting it to 2, 1 and Butler would nail a three...

James Turner, invisible in the first half, many key hoops in the 2nd half... seems to be able to generate the 10-15 shot any time he wants, why not more often, especially when defense is keying on Goeing.

The new and improved Nick Trisco.. has lost a lot of weight.. looks like a player now... I though Spalding should have gone over the top to him more often... it was there...and Soph Terez Smith, who alternated in with Trisco, showed he could be a good one too, a couple of big time plays...

Great game, lousy first half, super 2nd half...up and down the court, fast pace, scoring from both teams in the 2nd half..

Final play to tie was set up for Goeing, he was totally covered, ball found its way over to other side of court to Rowe who had made a couple.. shot looked good, rattled it and came out...

Spalding in the 2nd half was always in it, took the lead one time in the 40s, but generally was playing consistent 2 buckets behind... every time they got within one, IWC seemed to answer....

Getting the Journal Star's "large-school boys Player of the Year" would be a big deal for any Division III school - the guys who win this are mostly Division I and Division II players.

WOW WOW WOW   I had heard this rumor, but THOUGHT it was for next year... this is a D2 player!!!  I'm not crazy however, about mid year transfers, the whole philosophy... But I really like Eureka College, this will obviously be a huge plus....Shea Feehan didn't get into any games for Lewis, not sure what went on there, but if he's at the level of his brother, watch out.. Sam Feehan is probably the best 2 guard in the conference...

Shea Feehan didn't get into any games for Lewis, not sure what went on there,

He redshirted at Lewis last year, which makes him just a freshman (athletically) for Eureka this year.

In terms of this year at Lewis, he was just behind some very talented Division II guards:
  - Max Strus, 6-6 So. (22.6 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 3.5 apg)
  - Miles Simelton, 6-1 Jr. (9.7 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 3.7 apg)
  - Delaney Blaylock, 6-5 Fr. (9.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg)
  - Capel Henshaw, 6-3 Jr. (9.3 ppg, 2.2 rpg)

Illinois Wesleyan (and many other strong D3 programs) recruited Shea Feehan when he was a senior at Peoria Notre Dame H.S., but at some point the D2 scholarships started rolling in and it was clear he wasn't going D3.  This is a big addition for Eureka.

Thanks TQ for the info... you know I'm excited!!

A very quick take on today's games

Fontbonne at Greenville... Fontbonne no experience vs the system, GC gave Mac some real problems.... this one could be dangerous for the Griffs... Guards need to play smart...

Blackburn at Westminster... Both teams are exceeding expectations.. Westmin with 2 new names contributing big in last game...  This game will tell us a lot.. wish I could be there to see it...

Eureka at Iowa Wesleyan... Big question, will new face at EC contribute immediately... IWC depth is a big plus over EC 6 man rotation..

Mac at Webster... These two should be the league favorites, but both underachieving... Webster zone has given Mac fits in the past, and no one on Mac shoots with consistency from the perimeter... this game could be ugly..

Spalding at Prin... Spalding on the way up, Prin in a free fall.. but in this league, it could lead to another monster surprise
