Mr. Ypsi

WUH, the greater part of my negative karma hits came during the days of the late, unlamented, politics board, where I was the token liberal.  Even on days where I didn't post I would receive 2 or 3 negative hits.

WUPHF

Yeah, that will do it.  You may pick up a few hits just for mentioning your political affiliation.

Incidentally, its been 100 days since Hillary said she would look in to releasing her Goldman Sachs transcripts...

By the way, if Luke cannot bring back Denny McKinney to d3boards.com, then no one can.

The below was posted on the ODAC football board, but it applies to all D3 student athletes:

"The Baltimore Ravens' John Urschels is attending MIT pursuing a Phd.  While there this semester he worked out with the MIT football team. Here's what he said ....'I didn't know what to expect. But what I found was that the team at MIT is no joke. It is a football team — in some ways, more of a football team than any I'd ever seen. These guys love football. They are playing the game because they want to. No one is making them come to practice, no one is checking up on them. They know as well as anyone about head injuries; they know that football is dangerous; they know the feeling of exhaustion and pain. They still play. They don't do it for money, and they don't do it for status. The average size of their crowds is fewer than 1,000. On campus, no one gives them a second look. (The guys who won the Putnam Competition — a national math contest — three years in a row are the ones who get treated like star quarterbacks.) But they show up every day and work hard because it's their choice — because they love to play...'

OK, guys, you lament the delayed release of the recruiting efforts by the colleges and the lack of SLIAC related conversation here, but the closest thing to a discussion of the recruits I posted yesterday was an unrelated reference to what could have been with a transfer on the CCIW thread...

I need someone to say something to confirm that it is worth the effort...

As far as I am aware there is only one person who  wants that info before fall, and it isn't me.

I just now noticed that last week, Principia announced that former Prin player Todd Zimmerman has been officially named new head coach of Principia's Men's team....  I will say, he was a heck of a player...

Just amusing myself during retirement bliss.. I revisited my D3 travels from last season.. I think I mentioned a while back, I saw 48 men's games last year, on 43 dates.. Surprisingly, I visited only 9 of the 10 SLIAC schools... didn't make the trip over to Spalding, one of my favorite gyms to visit, simply due to various scheduling quirks.. I still managed to see Spalding play 6 times on the road during the season.

So how many miles did the old hopefan put on his 2006 Diesel Jetta that now sports 255,000 miles on the odometer in order to get to those games on 43 different nights?

Multiple choice..

2830....  or.....  3640..... or..... 4850......   or......  5350.....   or.....    6560......   or.....  7310.....   or......  7960.....  or.....  8330......  or.... 8870

Answer will be revealed after 8 different loyal readers take a guess, and one of those guesses must come from a new poster...

Prize... free seat next to hopefan at SLIAC game of hopefan's choice....  ;D ;D

With such an exciting prize, I have to take a guess -- 7310. You can PM me with the correct answer. I promise not to tell.

It looks like Blackburn failed to land Canadian superstar Justin Bieber, but they do have three St. Louis area recruits joining four Chicago area recruits.  None from rural Illinois.

Tommy Childs? Wow. There's a name I haven't seen in a long time. He graduated from South Elgin in 2010 and played one juco season at Harper (2010-11). Looks like he's spent the past five years in the working world.

It's not that uncommon in D3 to see a guy re-surface after a year or two away from school. But a five-year hiatus is pretty unusual.

Childs was a really good player in high school. I guess we'll see what he has now at the age of 24 or 25.

I have a soft spot for guys like Tommy Childs. They've usually had some adversity to overcome just to get to this point in life. I think it's hard to root against a guy like him.
