I thought so, too. But that was what was posted on CCIW Chat when McGuire transferred. Alas, the archives only go back as far as 2005, so I can't pull up those posts. And, to be fair, it was only a couple of IWU posters who were going on about that. But there wasn't really anything else that was said about McGuire from IWU posters to counter that narrative. I think that the other Titans posters had simply moved on, probably because McGuire was not going to figure as a major piece of the IWU puzzle during that era.

I don't remember that, but guessing if those comments were made it was by a very small amount of posters...who probably were not around the boards very long.  Probably a bit of a misleading/unnecessary post really.

Shawn McGuire was a very talented PG who simply got caught up in IWU's coaching transition.  He was recruited by Dennie Bridges and, I believe, would have been a really good player in Dennie's system.  Scott Trost landed Adam Dauksas when McGuire was a freshman and started him as a freshman in 2002-03.  McGuire was left on the outside looking in and wanted to play somewhere.

Every IWU fan I know was incredibly happy that McGuire found a home at Eureka - great kid and it was not a happy situation for him after the coaching transition at IWU.

EC roster now posted:

http://eurekareddevils.com/sports/mbkb/2016-17/roster

However, a little research..Brady Sanders was a JV player two years ago at Illinois Wesleyan.. came there with outstanding hs credentials.. if he's a kid who didn't quite make it at IWU but comes to Eureka with a real desire to play, he could be very good in the SLIAC... IWU readers, any thoughts?

Brady Sanders was a late commit to IWU coming out of high school, and a surprise commit.  (I don't think IWU was on him much.)  If I recall, Illinois College really wanted him.

I remember talking to Ron Rose about him a couple times as I was doing my annual IWU preview.  Ron really spoke highly of his character and work ethic.  As far as his game, I believe he is a very strong floor general/ball handler/leader type PG.  The downside is that he doesn't shoot it well - a guy defenses can sag off.

Comments from Ron Rose in my IWU previews for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons (in the "Rotation" section w/ the depth charts)...

My best guess is that Eureka has a good PG in Brady Sanders.

Thanks TQ.. if Brady Sanders is a strong PG, could go very well to let Shea Feehan move without the ball to get open.. the kid is a real scorer..

Webster hosts Washington University in less than a week.

The Gorlocks nearly walked away with the upset a season ago, shooting over 40 percent from the field and from the perimeter and 90 percent from the line.

Hunter Ward brought the Gorlocks to within two with three minutes left with a big time three pointer, but then passed on an open look from three on the next possession...

Webster will get a good game in on Saturday against Division II Drury.  That game is going to be free online at: http://www.drurypanthers.com/schedule.aspx?schedule=181&path=mbball

Lots of other games on that Tuesday...Hopefan where are you headed?

As I said, it was a couple of IWU posters who made those comments about McGuire screwing up by transferring to an academically inferior school. (One of them was, as you guessed, a Titans fan who didn't post on CCIW Chat for very long, but the other was a regular who posted there for years.) I realize as well as anyone that two posters do not constitute an entire fanbase. In fact, there's something to be said for the idea that none of us are really representative of our respective schools' fanbases, because the vast majority of fans don't post their thoughts about the program online. But the silence of the rest of the IWU posters at the time as far as McGuire was concerned was deafening.

When a player transfers out, it's only natural for many passionate fans of the school that lost that player to adopt a defensive and negative posture regarding him. Hence, my post.

As I also said, I figured that if any IWU fan would be willing to say something about Brady Sanders on hopefan's behalf, it would be you.

As I recall, in addition to what Q noted, McGuire was a two sport athlete baseball (and a pretty good one) and basketball.  Eureka was just a better fit overall for him; and, his family.  He was a really good kid, worked hard on and off the court. As I also recall, Eureka was putting more emphasis on their sports programs which may have been a factor.

Wasn't his dad both a high-school baseball and basketball coach downstate somewhere?

Webster 16-17 roster: http://websterathletics.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball.

Wow.. only one new name, if we assume the non-numbered become JV players... and if there was any hope that Davian Joseph would reappear, forget about it....Enrique Tankins, the frosh who earned a number, was a 12 ppg, 6 rpg player at Timberlands (Wentzville) last year...Timberlands was good, finishing 21-7, with a district championship.

Pretty sure I'll be at Webster... only other thought was to go to Rolla to see Principia play Missouri S&T.....

I'm not thinking the Webster-Wash U game will be the nail biter it was last year....

I think you missed #2, Josh Johnson, freshman from Clayton. Would have been nice to have Davian Joseph back.

Thanks Yjack.. yeah.. he was buried up there with all those guards that Webster has returning!!  Johnson averaged 14 ppg, 3 apg for a poor Clayton team... wonder if he can get time with 7 or 8 other guards on the roster....

Also just noticed that Iowa Wesleyan got thumped by William Penn, 108-73, last night... one of the transfer Soukup brothers, Steven, had 25 points, 4 for 7 from 3's, 11 for 13 from the line...

I think this is probably the case...Webster also played a great game two years ago in a game that the Gorlocks lost 80-70 at home, but they fought hard until the end in front of a great crowd.  It would be fun to see a similar crowd next week.
