My mistake. The possession and miss I was referring to was at 2:54 Webster down 5. Ojoe hurried the 3 and missed. Not the shot Webster was looking for or the guy to be shooting it. Hope Ward is OK.

Happy to see Webster get the win at Blackburn -- with a somewhat depleted roster. Ward doesn't play, so must still be ailing from whatever happened at the end of Monday's Eureka game. Etter also not back yet and Moore in the  box score but with zero minutes and one foul. Good shooting from both teams. Double figures for Dortch, Milligan, Rabass D-T, and newcomer Tony Jones. Way to go.

Just like that Westminster is on top of the SLIAC at 6-1.  At least for a few days.

I have been too busy to with new student orientation to even think about basketball, so I missed this game.

Iowa Wesleyan led by 12 at the half, 53-41 after shooting lights out: 64% (57% from three).  Westminster scored 50 in the second half in a game that went down to the wire.  Tanner Cochran hit a three with :06 left and Carter Wands got the steal to ice the game.  The Blue Jays win 91-88.

The ups and downs of Webster hoops... to lose critical at home one day, then come back and beat a contender without 3 starters, including Ward and Moore... WOW!!!
Yjack, you gotta meander over to WU anf find out the Ward/Moore situation for me... I'm CRAVING info!!

And what a night in the SLIAC... maybe the best EVER

Start with Tuesday night when bottom 3 member Mac loses to Prin by two when Adaku Anumu buries a 3 in the last seconds, Mac misses game tying shot

Go to Wednesday
Fontbonne at Spalding... a battle between two of the bottom 3 can be just as entertaining as a battle of contenders... Fontbonne gets a HUGE first half lead (my gosh, what has happened to Spalding?), Spalding comes back to take 2nd half lead, Fontbonne goes back up in last minute, give Spalding a chance to tie when they miss free throw , But Spalding's game tying shot misses, fontbonne gets the win by 3.  New Fontbonne Strategy, 2 big men Lake and Smith playing together worked well, as they combine for 28 points, 18 rebounds

Webster at Blackburn...Webster gets the 3 point win despite Etter, Ward, Moore not playing....Webster shoots extremely well, wins it at the foul line on the road, 21 for 30 vs 4 for 10 for BC.  Close the whole way, play by play shows a game tying 3 pointer missed by BC, though they had to go Full court with 3 seconds left, may have just been a heave.  Jone and Turner just about out of nowhere off the bench 34 points, 8 rebounds.. Jones 5 blocks!!

Iowa Wesleyan at Westmin... Westmin gets the home win 91-88, Sean O'brien plays big with 21 points, Romo Tabb 9 for 9 from the field for 22 points... Westmin holds down Steve Soukup numbers to 15 points... Tanner Cochrane gets a game winning 3 pointer in last 10 seconds... Iowa Wesleyan sets up a last couple second play from mid court but turn it over...

And Eureka at Greenville... I had to turn it off and Eureka had the 7 point lead with 7 minutes left, but that disappearde quickly and it went back and forth..Incredible 7 baskets made by the two teams in the last minute... 7 potential heros... Kenny Greene hits the games winning 3 pointer at the buzzer..

Readers, if you are counting, that's all 5 games decided on final shots!!!!   MATCH THAT, CCIW BUDDIES!!!!!

Now then, will confess having been relegated to watching 2 D2 games in person in the last several days... wow, quite a difference in level of play, as there should be... the facility was similar to the larger SLIAC gyms, but the crowd was bigger 600-800, and the student section far more vocal and into the games....Hate to say it, I really enjoyed it in the absence of D3... Talked to an AD, he was totally unaware of D3hoops.com, and there appears to be no D2hoops.com.... wow, something to do if I move to Florida!!!

With a handful of players from various SLIAC teams on my fantasy teams and Greenville running the System, it's been entertaining to look at boxscores and read game review/play by play.

Some years ago, maybe as many as ten, I looked for and found a private website dealing with D2 basketball. But it was nowhere near as good as this website. Just did a quick search again and came up empty. Maybe I missed something. Or maybe it didn't survive. So if you embark on a new life in FL this could be a new career opportuity.

Awesome! This site no longer does the buzzer-beaters, so I was wondering if anyone had video. Thanks!

Fontbonne, Webster, and Westminster are all closed tomorrow...

Principia and Westminster have postponed already, though it seems likely that no SLIAC game will be played on Saturday.

Iowa Wesleyan at Fontbonne rescheduled for Monday (1/16). Blackburn at Spalding and Webster at MacMurray -- no word yet.

For those entertained, enraged or just interested in Grinnell's system, Ryan Scott has an excellent column in this week's Around the Nation describing how it has spread and evolved at other Division III schools, like Greenville.

Curious to know when "Grinnell has played in the NCAAs a few times." I don't remember off the top of my head when that has happened. I assume they mean the NCAA tourney...
