Curious to know when "Grinnell has played in the NCAAs a few times." I don't remember off the top of my head when that has happened. I assume they mean the NCAA tourney...

Did some searching...

They went in 96 (pre-System?) and in 2001...losing in the 1st round each time.

Yeah, thanks for the fact checking.  I forgot to go back and get the specifics.  I knew they'd been twice, but wasn't sure about any other time.  It's sad that Grinnell's best team in the late 2000's coincided with that really, really good Lawrence team and thus GC missed out on its best chance to win a tournament game.

BC wins at Spalding in only scheduled SLIAC game. Critical win

Hopefan standings

Webster +1

Iowa Wes, Eureka, Westminster, Greenville    0

Blackburn, Prin    -1

So looking at the hopefan standings vs the actual standings:

Webster atop the hopefan standings because they beat contenders Blackburn and Prin on the road, but lost to Eureka at home... despite being 4-3 in conference, they are in great shape if they mind their p's and q's, because they only have 2 remaining road games against contenders.. Greenville and Eureka...with 5 games left against non contenders, Font, Mac, and Spalding, and home games vs BC and Prin, they are st up well IF they play to their potential. (and Ward, Moore, Etter return)

Westminster... opposite of Webster.... they have played 3 contenders at home and won each time, but lost their only road game to a contender...they have a BRUTAL remaining schedule including 2 games with Eureka and 4 other road games vs contenders...TOUGH

some of the others a little later....

Mac beats Webster and hopefan's theories are again right down the drain.

Iowa Wes beats Fontbonne, but Webster loses to Mac

Hopefan standings

Webster, Iowa Wes, Eureka, Westminster, Greenville    0

Blackburn, Prin    -1

If Everyone finished at 0, everyone would have a 12-6 record, going 6-6 with the other top 6 and sweeping the bottom 3... As Mac has already beaten Webster and Eureka, a seven way 12-6 can't happen... still obvious Mac Font and Spalding will not be top seven and are counted as bottom 3

Webster              0   won at Principia, lost at home to Eureka, won at Blackburn, lost to Mac
Iowa Wesleyan      0   won at Blackburn, lost at home vs Prin
Eureka              0   lost to MacMurray, won at Webster
Westminster      0
Greenville              0
Principia             -1   lost at home vs Webster, won at Iowa Wesleyan, lost at home to Blackburn
Blackburn             -1   lost at home to Iowa Wesleyan, won at Prin, lost at home to Webster

Huge game tonight Prin at Westmin.  The contenders need a Prin win. I'd love to see it,  but Westmin may be just too quick.

I would be really curious to see who everyone has for different mid-season awards (MVP, Defensive POY, Newcomer, Coach of the Year, etc.)  Would anyone care to throw there thoughts out there?

Au contraire, Greek.  I don't have much to contribute to SLIAC conversation, but this room is my second most frequented.  I love the passion exhibited here, and the general info provided from the D3 hinterland.  +K for hopefan!

Disappointing performance by Prin last night...no video, seemed like every time I looked at live stats, they'd get close, then turn it over, or miss 3 point shots, or miss layups... This was a big opportunity for Prin to stay in the race, now they are really hurting...  two normal scorers Anumu and Goodman combine for 5 points....Didn't read like Westmin played very well either, but well enough to win and to stay atop the standings.  Romo Tabb leads the way with a double-double 21 points, 10 boards.  Incidentally, I neglected to point out that Tabb was an incredible 20 for 20 shooting in Monday's game vs Kansas Christian on Monday night.. granted the competition was less than stellar and Tabb played only 16 minutes, but he went 9 for 9 from the field and 11 for 11 from the foul line...30 points...

No change in hopefan standings...

Tonight... (let's see if hopefan can jinx four more teams)

Spalding at Mac... Spalding just hasn't figured out that they have the talent to win... Mac is beginning to see that they can compete...let's see Mac win close again

Webster at Fontbonne...  heard some very disparaging words about Webster after the stunning loss to Mac... surely there wasn't smiles and laughter from the losing squad as they came off the floor... Webster should now see that no game is a given in this conference, definitely not a rivalry game... if some from Webster don't care, I'm positive every one in a Griffin uniform DOES CARE....Ward or no Ward, it would be an embarrassment to the Gorlock program if they don't take care of business tonight.

Greenville at Blackburn...the doggonned system... who knows... would like to think that Maestranzi, Davis, Lockhead woud carv it up... BC seems to have enough depth... but do they play smart enough basketball to keep turnovers down and get the layups necessary to win?  and of course, how will Greenville be shooting?  Their loyalty to the defensive scheme and ability to make it work is not questioned, but if they proceed to miss 40 3 point shots, they won't win...if Smith, Greene, others are shooting well, they'll take it....

Eureka at Iowa Wesleyan... would love to see this one... hope it's a high scoring game and close...entertainment plus!!!!  Good to see Mitch Drey back in the box score for Iowa Wesleyan, helps all around...Brock Butler vs Shea Feeney, would be fun to see these two match up..... I give the edge to Iowa Wes, only because they are the home team....

Incidentally, last week I praised the Prin online broadcasters, so I don't feel too bad saying, from watching Blackburn at Spalding, that the Spalding announcers need some work.... a lot of work.... :o :o
