Kollar got in too late to recruit his first year... consequently the Soph class may be weak...and with all the returning upperclassmen it was tough for the rookies to see much time... but frosh Hayes, Johnson, and Clay all played some critical minutes, and soph Tommy Childs was a regular,  and watch out for Big Ugo, he may be able to use that size to contribute... these guys form a nucleus that can learn next year, and likely compete in 2 years... BUT, I would agree, Coach Kollar needs to up the recruiting level this year, bring in one or two guys who could dominate...

Fun to read about Greenville recruiting on their Athletic site...  While likely overblown as it is every year, it's interesting to read a little bit about each new player, where they're from, what they've accomplished at the high school or JC level.  Why other SLIAC schools keep totally quiet about their incoming new faces, I've never understood... putting it out there is such a positive even if one or two of the kids change their minds..

As for Greenville, they really need a good class this year having lost EIGHT seniors, seven of whom were regular contributors to their system.. and given that they primarily depended on only 2 units, that doesn't leave many experienced contributors returning.  The only other hope is that the past year's JV players may add to the talent pool.  with 7 or 8 JVrs, and 15 new incoming players, fall pickup games and the first weeks of practice should be super intense as players establish a new pecking order.

As for the rest of the SLIAC, who knows?  If you do, write here about it!!

Whoa Nelly!!!   Just noticed Eureka College has a 2017-18 roster posted... not mentioning new names..... but a huge name missing from expected returners... 20+ ppg man Kendall Davis, listed as a junior last year, does not appear on the new roster this year..... my gut feeling last season when I saw Eureka play was that Davis was not fitting in too well with the rest of the players (despite comments to the contrary from others close to the program)... Eureka, led by Shea Feehan, should still be fine if they can find some immediate help with size!!!

Yikes! I gotta check my fantasy rosters to see if I have him in any of my leagues. That's a big hit for Eureka, but a bonus for Feehan?

It would be interesting to know how ready and willing the coaches are to post the rosters...

Incidentally, the Washington University basketball roster was published especially early: http://bearsports.wustl.edu/sports/mbkb/2017-18/schedule

In my time, I have never seen the team play Principia or Westminster (in the regular season).  Also noteworthy is the fact that the team is opposite the schedule from Webster in the Lopata Classic.  The teams have played 25 times going back to 1985-1986 but that may not happen this season.

Well Greek, if you have Kendall Davis and his 22.7 ppg, don't give up the ship just yet!!

2 crucial facts in one statement:
Kendall Davis will remain in the SLIAC to play basketball in 2017-18, but he'll no longer be suiting up in a Eureka College jersey.  Sometimes, justifiable or not to you or me, the grass just looks greener on the other side of the fence to a college kid.

Surprisingly this is the 2nd time a key player has gone recently from one school to another WITHIN the SLIAC. Just 2 years ago, Nick Trisko, a semi-regular at Greenville who never seemed to be blending in with teammates there, jumped ship and played his last 2 years at an All-Conference level at Spalding.  That may have been just as well as it could have been one of the factors leading to Greenville's successful adoption of the system, a system that the 6' 8" 270 lb Trisko would not have fit into very well.

So Kendall Davis is going to Spalding? Do conference rules make him sit out a year?

Very few conferences have such a rule.

Just looked at the Wash U schedule and Webster plays Tufts in the first round of the Lopata. Tough game for Webster in a rebuilding year.

ok, as my guessing game has generated zero interest, I will spill the beans that Kendall Davis is heading to MacMurray for his senior year.  Unhappy at Eureka, Davis evidently had conversation with Mac guard Mike Cameron, whom he had teamed up with on the JC level, and eventually decided to head south to Jacksonville Illinois and Mac..   Mac coach Todd Creal had two successful years when he 'adopted' Deavis Johnson from the CCIW 3 years ago.  With the addition of Davis to the roster and the return of Cameron from injury, Mac quickly returns to top 4 expectations in the SLIAC.  Last season was ugly for the Highlanders, but a number of losses were close and new faces got significant experience.

I'll note, while I had heard this news a while back, I've kept it off these pages until it was confirmed to me by Mac personnel as well as put out in Twitter by Davis.  I feel really bad for Eureka Coach Chip Wilde about this, but I think there is enough left in the Eureka program to be successful..  VERY tough to lose 22 ppg, but maybe things become more comfortable anyway....

Webster loses everybody other then their leading scorer, right?  Do we know if Tony Jones has more eligibility and is planning to return?

Pretty much. They will have one player back from 2015-16, Davian Joseph, who only played the first half of that season. He will help. Jones was recognized on Senior Day, so I doubt he will be back.
